second time this week that I finished second in one of these. I'll take it though. This hand at the final table was probably what got me going though:

Awesome Lamer: you could have AK...
Awesome Lamer: ...ill muck it
Dealer: BdaddyB2008 wins the pot (16,000)

well i get tanked at online microstakes but b&m short stack (50-100 BBs) micro-small stakes is pretty different, because everybody (that i play with at least) doesnt want to lose their 5-10 bucks. basically i started out playing tight aggressive, like i would in the 9-16 handed tourneys we play. it works at times and not at others for cash games. now tho, ive been loosening up a bit, but staying super aggressive. after playing months with the same people i can read them, so i have an advantage, but i still play the same at a new table. basically aggression from position pays. at a weak to medium table you can grab a lot of small pots by firing a standard pf raise from early position and then a 2/3 pot c bet no matter what on the flop. obviously you have to use good judgment, if a really tight passive fish calls you and the boards filled with overs - be afraid. basically ive gone from winning the few, huge hand-over-hand hands to grinding and snagging a lot of pots so that i can afford the chase down my open ender against someones set etc.

position is absolutely vital. especially against better opponents who take into account youre raising from early position. against a weaker field theyll percieve the early position raise as hey - hes got something, then your c-bet as hey - he hit something. so against these weaker players you can bet no matter what the flop, but a better player would probably assume you have something really strong preflop, then if the board shows rags and you bet, theyll know somethings up. so it definitely pays baby connectors and even crap hands from position with the goal of putting on a play, because if you happen to hit something nice itll pay off.

basically just be aggressive and loosen up BUT you have to rely on your reads a lot, and know when to let your hand go because you can get felted really fast if you cant do that. also, when it comes to online id say play .1/.25 limit. there you can play straightforward, tight poker and just grind it out. id be willing to bet that you could have winning sessions by simply playing the top 15-20 hands and playing - raise/reraise preflop, ram and jam the flop if you hit, or just fire a raise to find out where youre at if you sorta-hit or miss, and figure your pot odds and most likely call on the river. micro/small stakes NL online seems to be a bit of a crapshoot.

thats my .02. a bit unorganized but hop on vent if u want to talk poker

I have an FTP account. I don't have any money on it right now, but I'll see what I can do.

Might be fun to play for the play money with people here that might be interested.

And no, I won't play like a donk just because it's not real money lmao. Very annoying actually when I don't want to play for cash and sit down at a table and everyone is playing like a moron.

As for BigBoss and his J6 on the other page, I mean, it was heads up. I'll call with any hand in heads up unless they put in an unusually large raise ( i.e. more than 3BBs). I'll also raise with any hand in position.

No idea why the kings didn't raise. If I'm heads up with 10s or higher I usually don't even want to see the flop. Typically though, it wouldn't be that hard to fold kings on a board that disgusting. Anyone that shoves onto a board like that is either a moron, tom dwan, Isildur, or has a 6.

I was playing a donkey earlier this week in a cash game HU and was fairly deep. I raised on the button 3 BBs and he reraised to 9BBs, so I put in a massive reraise with QQ to 40BBs, given I mean, he either had to fold or shove at that point. But he calls, and I'm a little depressed when the flop comes AKT, though, he checks, so I bet out rather small and he calls again for some reason. No idea what he has at this point, but a J comes on the turn so I have a straight, and then he moves all in. I call and he had K2.

My goodness why do people like this play poker. I mean, I don't mind the $, but >_>

Depends on the customer really. Slow playing people that will bet into you if they're on the button if you check works wonders. However, yeah, slow playing big pairs blows up in your face more often than not. Play em' aggressively.

What rqm said

Also, I find that, if I'm sitting at a full table, playing super tight initially will leave me drawing about even, maybe + if the players are crap. However, after I've taken down a few hands with only premium hands, I find people are way more likely to fold to a bluff and I'll start bluffing here and there and my stack starts to go up a lot faster.

Every now and then I'll take a terrible hand like 82 and play it like I have aces if I have the table image for it, and generally, it works. I would say the key to pulling this off though is pulling up if you get terrible flop texture, because your hand becomes a lot less believable then.

This style also leads to way bigger cashes because occasionally you'll hit two pair or something with that 82 and there is no way they'll get a read on your hand.

Either way though, playing full table ring games generally takes a lot more patience than playing heads up, and it usually requires way less skill too, so I personally prefer HU nowadays.

PS

Gus Hansen has really been playing terrible this year, holy cow I was watching him this week and he was playing like a lunatic every time, losing so much money by going all in with weak flush draws and weak pairs. It was ugly.

Oh Gus

YESSSSS someone who understands. I hate it when people whine about their big pocket pairs being cracked. If you didn't bet strongly, then you allow them to see a flop, and KK/AA aren't guaranteed wins. "U PLAYED J6? FCKIN DONK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

-_-

I HATE THAT SO MUCH. My friend who plays Pokerstars would always try to get me to play in freerolls and you'd deal with nothing but people who would auto-shove any hand for like the first 15 minutes. I'm glad I was funded on UltimateBet--yes, I know it's not the greatest medium for poker but I can at least play some cash games.

Yeah, definitely. Especially heads up, or if there are only two people in the hand and I'm the last to act, I'll come into the pot with a crap hand anyway. Pocket pairs need to be able to deal with this. Actually, I think people that don't come into pots like that and always fold rags are usually weak players and won't make much money online.

J6 is really, what, 13% to beat KK, but in heads up format or 3 way you're getting your moneys worth IMO, because a big hand is going to pay you off if you hit two pair.

So, yeah, they can whine about their pairs being cracked when in reality if they would loosen up and start to play weaker hands in position or in a good spot they would do the exact same to others.

I suppose there is a lot of value to big pairs, but a lot of players especially overvalue premium non paired hands, e.g. AK and stuff like that. AK is only 66% to beat J6.

Sadly, I remember a few weeks ago I raised with AQ suited and got massively reraised, but I call. Flop came AQ2. I bet out and he reraised. I figured there was no way he had aces, so I figured he might have AK or kings, so I call. Turn comes another Q, so I'm laughing to myself when it all gets shoved in on the turn.

He actually did have aces. I don't think I played poker for a couple of weeks after that >_>

Ouch...but that's poker. Gotta live with it.

AK is still a solid hand, but not a pushing hand 9 handed. See with AK, you can 3bet with it, and you'll probably get a couple callers. If you hit an A or K, great! If not, still great, because it's an easy fold.

EDIT: PS, something from a week ago

You actually won the 7500 man freeroll? lmao, wow.

I actually gave one a try today. Figured...why not? The structure is terrible though; I mean, for a 7500 man torney it's the only structure that won't take all day, but it involves almost no skill. Raising PF without a massive stack is out of the question since you're already pot committed, so it's mostly an all in fest.

Was chronically short stacked. In the hand previous to this I was down to 10k and got JJ, so I moved all in and got called by a bunch of people. I took down the pot and moved up to 46k.

Next hand I was dealt 1010, so I figured, why not move all in again? It was folded around to me anyway.

Sadly I got called by these and it was all over

I went to my dorm poker tournament yesterday. 37 players with a buy-in of $10. Most of them were pretty bad players and I ended up with the first place pretty easily. $200 for me.

I would also like to start playing online poker. I see a lot of Full Tilt Poker in here. Would you recommend it?
