Actually, I had not seen that particular thread yet. But thanks for the link, I was too lazy to go dig one up.

Just popping in, but I just want to say that DDReam Studio is a program with a different approach to stepping; it is NOT universally a "better" program. That being said, try both SM editor and DDReam to see which is more comfortable for you.

Right. Personally I'm more comfortable with DDReam Studio, but for me, if you test your steps in DDReam, the timing is strict as asdfghjkl;

(at least that's what my settings are)

But I must say that I have found a number of bugs in DDReam. I can't think of any for now, but they can get annoying sometimes.

I only really use the SM editor to make stops in a chart (but I won't be using it here for FFR).

EDIT: I put that DDReam folder on mediafire haha.

Let me just make an announcement to anybody new who wants to use DDReam.

Since I'm a human being I forgot to put something in the "Basic Controls (READ FIRST).txt" in the .rar file:

delete notes by selecting them and pressing DEL. you can select a single note by clicking on it. you can select multiple notes by clicking and dragging an area which contains the note you want, or you can click on the first note, then CTRL+Click the next notes that you want. or you can press CTRL+A to select all the notes.

Sorta conversely, I only use DDReam as a syncing tool for difficult-to-sync songs. I use the SM editor to make my steps.

I might also add that each editor has it's own perks but also the potential for some bad stepping habits. For instance, DDReam users without some general knowledge of rhythm may sync arrows in a way that it hits perfectly, but is the wrong type of arrow. I've noticed that in many piano songs where the tempo constantly changes (due to rubato), many steppers do NOT pay attention on keeping consistent arrow types such as 4th notes and 8th notes. Rather, they tend to use a random assortment of arrow colors that sync to the music but completely misrepresents proper notation. In this sense, some DDReam users believe they can sync anything on DDReam when they actually just butcher arrow notation.

Pretty much what I do. I've only actually stepped notes with DDReam once or twice; I mainly just use it to get the offset exact. Also, I agree with your point about new steppers messing up notation. It seems to happen often when people don't have knowledge of fundamental music theory.

^^

I do this. I like being able to actually playtest my stuff in the editor as I'm stepping so I use SM. Plus I find SM's editor a lot easier to use.

MFW every time I play Powerpuff Gabberz I hear Twilight Sparkle. I think I will never be able to watch Powerpuff Girls the same again.

Edit: Thanks Xiz. I keep trying and little by little I am improving. I am about to the point where It is mostly just the jumpstream that gets me now. But when I get lost in jumpstream my PA goes downhill fast.

Also, I have no idea how to add songs to Stepmania in Mac. I assume it would be a similar process to doing it in Windows, which is to put the songs inside their own folder with the song name, which goes inside a group folder, which finally goes inside the 'songs' folder created by Stepmania when you installed it. After that go to options and choose 'Reload songs/courses'. After that you can go to edit mode and create a new chart for your song by selecting it from the group you made. Stepmania takes a bit of getting used to, but I think it is nice once you get the hang of it. Main things are:
• 1, 2, 3, 4 Add arrows at the current position
• F7/F8 Adjust BPM from the current position
• left/right Change what beat the arrows snap to (4th, 8th, 12th, et cetera)
• up/down Change position
• Page up/down Change position by a whole bar at a time.
• Ctrl + R Goes into record mode where the song plays and you can add arrows in real time
• P Play song from current position so you can test part of your steps at a time

Well, that is about all I have. I am new to charting too. Best of luck and above all have fun.

Since everyone is so tightknit here, may as well share. I've asked megamon to remove me from team pony. Going to stop playing and go inactive for a while. May come back, but I've no idea. Just thought I'd share. Good luck to everyone still in the tourney and in general.

Here's something I whipped up in around 2 hours:

Ten Seconds Flat.

I'm not the best but I enjoy making music and MLP so combine these two together and that's what happens.
