Headphone/Headset Suggestions?
So recently my headphones died on me by shocking the insides of my ears. Bottom line: I need a new pair. What would be a good pair? What headphones/headsets are you using right now? Can you give me a few brands so that I can get an idea of what's out there? I am looking for a headphone/headset that might run $100-$150. I am also looking for a pair that will actually last for 1 approx. 1 year. Thank you, you're awesome guys. And Happy Thanksgiving~

Re: Headphone/Headset Suggestions?
Sennheiser HD 201's are fairly inexpensive and have decent sound quality, from what I've heard. (They shouldn't run you more than $40.)

Re: Headphone/Headset Suggestions?
I have a pair of Tritton AX720's that have lasted me about 2 years now.
Some other good brands are Sennheiser, as previously mentioned, and Steelseries. A pair that I'm currently looking at are the Steelseries Siberia v2's(Frost Blue). I'm a sucker for lights. |

Re: Headphone/Headset Suggestions?
I will reply with a more detailed post when I return home from work. Sennheiser HD201s are what I use and I picked them up for $15, but they have since risen in price to anywhere from 25-50 from what I've seen these days.
At a budget of 100-150, you can do so much better. I will give you details when I return home. but my question to you is are you looking for closed headphones, open headphones or in ears?

Re: Headphone/Headset Suggestions?
Oh shit evnoir is watching this thread. He will give you all the good insight. Hopefully Evnoir will say the exact same thing, BUT for the in ears you are kind of paying for the convinience of them being extra portable. For the price though I would definitely recommend the Audio Technica M50s seeing as they can be found cheap as fuck and sound like 200 dollar headphones.
Or be like me and Evnoir sport some extra swag and blang. Deck yourself out with a nice amp and dac. Spend like a couple thousand on multiple pairs of headphones. Find which one you like the best and don't look back. On a more serious note here. (Evnoir kind of debates on a lot of this stuff except for the High end gear, but here should be a general guide.) Re: Headphone/Headset Suggestions?
Anything Grado, I have the SR125's and love em. Best sound quality for your money, however they are open air and not exactly the most comfortable headphones and are very un-portable

Re: Headphone/Headset Suggestions?
In Ears:
I have constructed this graph for you: The x axis here is Frequency and measures Hz (how low pitched can your headphones go, how high can they go) - the left half of the graph could be considered your bass sounds, while the other half the higher pitched sounds. The y axis measures Amplitude - how powerful is your sound? An absence of a line means your headphones cannot produce sounds in this Hz range. A very high line means the headphones are overpowering in this hz category - this is where the term bass heavy comes from. The ideal choice has as close a straight line down the middle as possible. The four headphones I've shown are as follows: DENON AH-C560R - $99 Manufacturer Warranty: 1 Year Connector Type: 1/8 Isolation: -10dB ~ -14dB Impedance @ 1kHz: 16 Ohms Detachable Cable: No Cord Length: 1.3 meters Cord Type: Straight Y Ear Coupler Type: IEM Driver Type: Dynamic Sensitivity: 110dB Microphone: Yes Woodees iESW100V Vintage w/Mic - $70 Manufacturer Warranty: 1 year Isolation: -11dB ~ 18dB Impedance @ 1kHz: 16 Ohms Detachable Cable: No Cord Length: 1.3 meters Cord Type: Straight Y Coupler Size: Small Ear Coupler Type: IEM Driver Type: Dynamic Sensitivity: 105dB Microphone: Yes Ultimate Ears UE600 - $100 Manufacturer Warranty: 2 Years Isolation: -14db ~ -26dB Impedance @ 1kHz: 13 Ohms Detachable Cable: No Cord Length: 46 inches Cord Type: Straight Y Coupler Size: Small Ear Coupler Type: IEM Driver Type: Dynamic Weight: 12.4 grams Etymotic HF5 - $149 Manufacturer Warranty: 2 year Connector Type: 1/8 Isolation: -35dB ~ -42dB Impedance @ 1kHz: 16 Ohms Detachable Cable: No Cord Length: 4 ft Cord Type: Straight Y Ear Coupler Type: IEM Driver Type: Balanced Armature Sensitivity: 105dB Microphone: No Weight: Less than 1 oz In order of what I recommend to you out of these 4 choices: 1) Etymotic HF5 - 2 year warranty, the most balanced sound out of all selections here, good cord length. 2) Ultimate Ears UE600 - 2 year warranty, 117cm cord length. Well balanced bass sounds, falters a bit in higher pitched areas. 3) DENON AH-560R - 1 year warranty, has a microphone, good brand. Most bass heavy out of all 4 choices. 4) Woodees iESW101V Vintage - Economical. Bass heavy. 1 year warranty. Bonus: Shure SE425 - $300 Manufacturer Warranty: 2 years Isolation: -15dB ~ -25dB Impedance @ 1kHz: 37 Ohms Detachable Cable: Yes Cord Length: 5ft Cord Type: Straight Y Coupler Size: Small Ear Coupler Type: IEM Driver Type: Balanced Armature Connector Type: 1/8 -5 ft cord allows you slack to move around a bit and stretch. The best balanced selection out of the 5. You get what you pay for in this one, if you're willing to spend $300 you will be rewarded with beauty. Hope this helps.

Re: Headphone/Headset Suggestions?
I found a few companies that make some decent headphones (Thanks, Google).
ULTRASONE: http://www.ultrasone.com/index.php/en/products.html Sennheiser: http://www.sennheiser.ca/live/senn/type/en/1 SONY: http://store.sony.ca/webapp/wcs/stor...9-000002603035 Audio-Technica: http://www.audio-technica.com/cgi-bi...dphones_new.pl And if that doesn't help you out much... 10 Best Budget Headphones Under $100 (Business Insider): http://www.businessinsider.com/ranke...ronics-ht-21-1 I don't have much of a suggestion for the exact make or model; just check out the links, explore what's given there and you should be able to find what you want. I should also point out that some products here get pretty expensive (I'm talking from 2 to 4-figure prices here).

Re: Headphone/Headset Suggestions?
IEMs
(1) Spider Realvoice, $75-$85. Balanced. Lows are controlled and punchy, clear, prominent, neutral mids, highs sparkle with good extension. Good all-rounder. (2) HiFi Man RE0, $80. Clear with fantastic highs and mids, low end is lacking. (1) Etymotic HF5, $90-$100. Excellent isolation with a rather neutral/natural sound. Anemic, yet punchy, bass. Clear, detailed and neutral mids. Sparkling highs. Very clear. (2) HiFi Man RE-ZERO, $100. Clear, fantastic highs and mids, low end is alright. (1) Shure SE215, $100. Removable cables. Strong punchy bass, warm powerful mids, rather weak highs. ~Taken from what.cd forums |

Re: Headphone/Headset Suggestions?
But seriously, I gave into FFR's peer pressure and picked up a pair of coiled audio-technica ath-m50's. The quality is astounding for $100, and I melt every time I put them on (they feel like marshmallows on your head)

beyerdynamic dt 770
i used these for 2 years now i got drunk with them on i fell down stairs with them i went to usa/canada with them i went to japan with them i went to uk with them i went to sweden with them i wrecked rhythm games with them i washed the earpads in vodka when i got sweaty i went to mountainpeaks with them (and fell) i used them in heavy rain and snow i can listen to audio with good quality with them they are big yet comfortable and they give off a signal like you were wearing a "do not disturb" sign around your neck so you can be in your own world they close out noise from the surroundings i learned how to put on headphones using only 1 hand with these my dads dog stepped on them No signs of wear except a few cosmetic scars from acting like a helmet whern i knocked my head on the pavement when i fell once /thread Last edited by Staiain; 08-21-2013 at 01:06 AM.. |

This headset is actually a lot better than I thought it would be. A lot. It almost competes with my Diesel VEKTR headphones by Monster. It sounds great, and the sound output is not USB.

Re: Headphone/Headset Suggestions?
beats by dre is actually a really good headset, they mix it especially for extra bass, most people will hype up sennheisers but that's just marketing, once you hear the bass on beats you're sold
