Can your avatar affect your rep?
Do any of you guys out there think that how stupid or cool someone's avatar is effects your view of them? I think when someone has a stupid avatar and low post count this automatically makes me not want anything to do with them. Tell me what you think about this. I'm interested to know.

Re: Can your avatar effect your rep?
I think it's very true. If there's someone who has some avatar of a picture of something drawn in paint that says FFR ROOLZ or something, I automatically think n00b.
An avatar kinda gives a personality to the people looking at it, because people look and it and think, "Oh, thats what that person connects with most." Thats what I think, anyway. |

Xandertrax for instance, when I look at your avatar, I think somewhere along the lines of Communist. I connect that with thinking you don't support the country much. Of course I could be wrong; you tell me.

As soon as I see "owned" or any variation of it, I immediately disregard their message.

Re: Can your avatar effect your rep?
Or better yet don't do it at all. I don't care if someone doesn't like the president or his policies, people don't seem to realize that they don't actually want to be in this war, we are just trying to keep them from getting too strong by fighting them over there. *sighs*

Re: Can your avatar effect your rep?
Yes, I think that avatar affects reputation. Besides, this is the internet. No one would (and probably never would) see you in real life. Therefore, before people get to know one another, their avatar shows something about their personality (ie. likes and dislikes, humorous vs. seriousness, etc.).

Re: Can your avatar effect your rep?
Yes it does effect your rep. I've seen emo people torn apart just because their av is a pic of themselves; same for overweight people. When you don't personally know somebody, the image of their avatar basically represents them in your mind. Thus, people probably think I'm a heavy-metal party-all-night unicorn. Well, I'm not ... yet.

I enjoy sports, but I'm not a dumb jock.
Avatars are mainly a way I quickly identify people. |

I also skip posts that I can't easily read. Like the above.
If you want people to treat you with respect, have an appropriate avatar and legible posts. That's pretty much it. |

Re: Can your avatar affect your rep?
Affect.
Effect is a noun. Affect is a verb. Thread title edited. Also, on-topic: I currently have avatars and signatures turned off due to the fact that I often surf FFR on my phone and loading times can be annoying with them on. --Guido http://andy.mikee385.com |
