Re: I played DDR for the first time ever today
Gotta love the 8th jump jack at the end of MaxX Unlimited. Some 8 that is.
p.s. Determinator 8 has a couple of measures of 16ths lmao p.p.s. Yes, generally people will say the hardest 9 is either So Deep, HVAM or Cartoon Heroes. |

On Standard. Couldn't pass Heavy when it was on the machine.
And HVAM is really hard, Cartoon Heroes is quite hard, but So Deep is easy, I bet I could FC it without too much trouble >< Maybe I'm just really, really, really bad at crossovers and doublestepping.

Re: I played DDR for the first time ever today
HVAM is probably my favorite song in ddr, and one of the few i can AA.
So Deep is pretty easy, if you have got the stamina to finish it, and Cartoon heros just plain sucks. |

I dunno. I aa'd max300 before So Deep and HVAM.
Although the second I put So Deep on 3x I aa'd it easily. Maybe people are just scared to put it faster or something. |

Re: I played DDR for the first time ever today
uh yeah I always put So Deep on 3x (why the hell wouldn't you, unless you were trying to play slow-read as a challenge?)...it's really, really not hard at all, and not even tiring...got 1 miss on one run, and had another where I AA FC'd up to the end where I got 5 CB's from reversing one of the mini-trills (oops). But seriously, there are MANY 8's I find harder than So Deep (e.g. Unlimited Standard, Waka Laka, DXY), I don't see how it's considered one of the hardest 9's.
I can pass Max 300 consistently now, which is cool. Working on the A there, and passing Unlimited...it's not so bad until after the slowdown/freeze break, after which it gets really nasty ><

so deep is no fun on 3x. Thats like doing bag on 3. it defeats the purpose. and even tho i could pass hvam and so deep, it took me forever to pass max300. too much voltage.... btw: dxy |

Max 300 is all streams. Maxx Unlimited is all jumps. HVAM is all shuffle-stepping. So Deep is all gallops. It all depends on what you're comfortable with. =)

Basically, any challenge besides moving my feet (or in the case of FFR, my fingers) to hit the correct arrows is something I'm completely not interested in. This includes playing anything no-bar or on a slow mod, or any mod like Drunk or Dizzy or whatever. This also applies especially to mines in SM (and if I played, ITG)--whenever I find mines in ANY song that are placed in a way that might actually make me confuse them for arrows, I immediately groan, quit the song, put No Mines on, and play again, because they do nothing but make the song harder to read, and I derive no enjoyment whatsoever from making it harder for me to read the arrows. Period. For the record, I do Bag on 5x and nothing lower--I've tried lower and immediately afterwards declared that I would never go lower than 5x on it ever again unless someone paid me to. As far as I'm concerned, the purpose of the game (and of all songs in the game) is about physical movements to go with music, not about determining which of a whole bunch of arrows on a screen is higher--to me the arrows on the screen are merely a set of instructions, and the making the instructions harder to decipher is pointless to me. Oh, and I have played Challenge mode once. It was the last time I will ever play Challenge mode as long as I play DDR. /rant I AA'd my 5th 9 today, Orion .78 ameuro mix or something...was sightread, and easy.

Re: I played DDR for the first time ever today
no wai.
mods are what makes the stuff fun. Then again, personally i love songs that have unexpected stops, speed ups or mods ( ex: hvam, postx, driven) Dizzy, bumpy, waves, reverse, tornado, etc, thats what takes the game to a whole 'nother level. After all, arrows constantly heading up with no difference gets kinda dull after awhile. But oh, well. to each their own right? btw, whats a cmod? |

CMods eliminate stops and BPM changes completely and causes the arrows to move at a constant rate for the entire song no matter what--for example, C400 will cause everything to rise at a rate of 400 BPM, even if it's actually 200 BPM or 150 BPM or even 65 BPM. All songs on FFR are done on C300, if you want to know what a CMod is like. By the way, I'm pretty bad at crossovers in general, but I hope to improve at that because I do consider it a worthwhile part of the game, unlike reading tricks or playing no-bar.

::note to self:: never ever, ever use any cmods. as for crossovers, psh. i never learned them ether. It would be funny as hell because songs full of crossovers like rythem and police, cant stop falling in love speed mix and paranioa survivor i can pass without the bar and not do a single crossover. All the other ddr players around me would be surpised as hell, lol |

Negative BPMs ;D And usually I agree with you on most counts of bar and slow-reading, Shash, but I have to disagree with your outlook on mines. Mines are just as important as arrows (moreso in ITG than SM) because they tell you what you can't do. They are there because they either emphasize the atack/cutoff of a note (especially a freeze) or emphasize a note that is emphasized in the music. Now minefields are a whole other story, because those are just thrown in there for difficulty's sake, and are retarded and don't add anything to a stepchart. Tangent over. GJ on passing Max300 and your other stuff that I can't quite remember lol. Hopefully I'll be able to get Max300 and others like that when I get my CF and can practice ITG stuff at home.

Re: I played DDR for the first time ever today
Inherently retarded because no music actually has a negative BPM. I consider negative BPM's nonexistant, and any file that uses them to **** around with Cmods to be not worth playing.
Quote:
As far as I'm concerned, the whole mine system should be replaced with FFR's boo system, without holds affecting it in any way (since that would be almost impossible to deal with on pad). I just don't see how it makes sense, music-wise, to say that stepping in one place is worse than stepping in another place when you shouldn't be stepping in either place to begin with.

However, as far as I can tell, Challenge charts were made for the sake of throwing something new into the mix, rather than simply adding more arrows in. In many cases they were also steps made to be played in an Oni course, or in the case of Kakumei, as a One More Extra Stage...stage.
