Re: A new beginning for our SM community.
I will definitely join this, SM Needs the "Major change" all of you are looking to do. Many underground Step artists and Many soon-to-be WR holders are bound to pop up. There is only one problem I see. Getting the Word out. Many websites like KBO and Here have plentiful people, but I'd like to see at least well over 2k people on the "project" as a start.

I'd definitely be up for this. The rhythm gaming community needs to stop separating itself.

Re: A new beginning for our SM community.
If this means tons of new sims/packs, I'm loving the idea. New packs aren't around a whole lot, and I get a little tired of the simfiles on Bemanistyle

Re: A new beginning for our SM community.
this wouldnt be the first time people start an new forum, like for example another guy tried with an forum called StepmaniaParadise, but that died, and I still have my Unlimited Stepman Works, oh well if you want to start an new forum go for it, I wouldn't actually pay for forum software like Vbulletin, I myself us SMF and its quite nice.
here this is what I have http://www.jousway.co.uk/Forum/index.php if you want help with anything gfx or anything else related, sure I can do that if you need it, I already helped staiain before with his stuff on his server so.

Re: A new beginning for our SM community.
Thank you ALL for supporting and giving ideas. Since it's still just an idea, me and Stian are still taking notes of things needed, but we do appreciate and thank each of you for willing to help. By the way, any help and knowledge of site and servers coding/maintenance will be kindly appreciated.
Jousway, since vBulletin seems a good base for forums (FFR and KBO use it), Stian thought of it first, but we'll consider your suggestion. Also, we could assemble your works with this new forum. Also, guys, once the forum is done and running, and it'll take a few weeks, I really don't want it to be forgotten in a few weeks, making people go back to FFR/KBO. I think of this forum as a whole new home for Stepmania and its players, and we should make a proper effort to make this live for a good time. Once more, thank you all. |

if you want to use vBulletin go for it, in the end I still think SMF is best tough, if you need help with the theme like editing I can help with that.

Re: A new beginning for our SM community.
This server is to attend another purpose. Me and Stian had an idea of having a definitive scores database. It would work similarly like SMO: You connect to a website via Stepmania, play files normally, but your scores are sent to this database. Maybe have Stepmania to auto-connect to this database, so your scores are sent automatically. And we need someone to maintain the site, in case it goes offline, and fix bugs, like aperson does with FFR.

Re: A new beginning for our SM community.
if you get an server are you going to run it at home or are you going to pay for an server, because an homeserver will rape your bandwidth and will be slow for everyone, and paying for an server expensive like shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, best choice is an virtual server, but the problem with that is they are kinda crap in some cases, also if you set up an server what are you going to use, linux, windows or ?

Re: A new beginning for our SM community.
Maybe on Windows. Well, we need this person to set up the server because I, myself, have no experience with this. This server would be only for this database, so it wouldn't be so expensive, I guess. And the forums wouldn't even need a separated server.

Re: A new beginning for our SM community.
well this is the price of an normal server http://www.hostgator.com/windows-ded...-servers.shtml so if you want to get an vserver find an cheap one, and again if you host at home, well ask staiain I think he remembers how slow it is.

Re: A new beginning for our SM community.
I and a few others can also come to this site.
Have you talked to Stian about merging the SM wiki to the site if this idea does happen? |
