wtf soft pad sucks or I do
Okay, seriously, what the ****.
I can AA 10's on a hard pad and I get B's on 4's on this soft one. Like one in ten times the up arrow just doesn't work even when I'm obviously stepping right on it. Sometimes lifting my foot OFF an arrow will make it register. Wtf? Are all soft pads this bad or am I doing something very wrong somehow?

I think you just suck. Ohi Shash haven't seen you in a while. Ok back on subject. I have never used a hard pad but the soft pads work fine on 10's and such for me.

Re: wtf soft pad sucks or I do
After playing on a hard pad then going to a soft pad my PA is horrible. Ditch the soft pad, I have owned one decent soft pad. It had a half an inch foam mat that you inserted into the pad and it zipped up. All the rest sucked.

Re: wtf soft pad sucks or I do
Don't play at home, but if you are going to just play at home, keep in mind, the timing windows are crazy different from arcade, and fairly bigger. Get a medal pad, I recommenced a cobalt flux, and if you use bar, just put a chair or something behind you.
http://www.cobaltflux.com/ I haven't played a home version game aside from my Asian ddr extreme, (which has real timing windows, only the american games have different windows) in like 4-5 years, but it's good for practice until you start getting good, and want to submit score's. I only play itg now, and my friend made groove stats. www.groovestats.com and for ddr, www.ddrecall.com Both have a section for home version scores, and for arcade scores. For itg though, if you use a flash drive in the arcade, you can straight upload your scores rather than have to enter then manually and remember everything. groovestats is getting a pump section soon I believe, if they didn't add it yet, being itg got killed by konami, everyone switched to pump pro, which has itg artist's and steppers now. I would send you my cobalt flux, I won it from a tournament, and rarely used it, but it's broken. I suppose if you want though, I still could send you it, and possibly you could fix and it and keep it, I never really had a reason to take of the arrows and fix it, hell, it might work now for all i know lol. It's just taking up space right now. It's not broken to there point where it doesn't work at all, but the sensors are a little screwed up. I only used it like, 4 times. I would send it for free, being I don't plan on using, and most likely just throwing it out soon. Last edited by [TeRa]; 01-11-2008 at 08:55 AM.. |

Re: wtf soft pad sucks or I do
Duct tape the soft pad onto a hard surface (like a piece of plywood or something if you have carpet, otherwise just use a hardwood/tile floor). It should work better, for cheaper than a CF (although I do recommend a CF if you're willing to drop $350 on DDR).
You also have to realize that the center panel(/circle) is much larger than no a hard pad, so you have to step out a little further otherwise you'll miss the sensor entirely. I played once at school where they had a DDR setup with two soft pads, and I got 400-3-0-10 or something like that on a 7, because of missing the sensors.

Re: wtf soft pad sucks or I do
I'm not paying money for a home version, I only have this one because my mom got it for me. I have access to multiple hard pads at college and don't have any need to invest in one.
The timing window doesn't bother me, I just wanted to know why I can stomp loud and clear on the center of the up arrow at the right time and have it miss. Obviously I'm not planning to AA 10's on here, but being able to PASS 8's would actually make the game fun, which it's not as is. Quote:

Re: wtf soft pad sucks or I do
I have one of those 1-inch thick pads, which actually are great! The problem is I play ITG (on my comp) but for it to work on the comp, I had to use some program to hotkey all the arrows. Then I had to key all the arrows as A B X and Y (XBox pad) because the arrows themselves didn't handle triples. So now if I hit A B X or Y on the pad, it hits one of the arrows. That's a problem when I'm playing Delirium expert because I hit A B X or Y on accident which makes it so I can't hit the arrow the the letter hit. I hope you understand what I just said.

yesterday i got the game DDR Extreme and i have a soft pad from game stop in the mall. it was below 100 dollars but it seems to do o.k. when it comes to the game play. i never thought of the plywood under my pad. i play on carpet in the living room. now i have to go get a piece to duct tape too. ;D

And yes, Mesh pads absolutely fail at life. Go to an arcade or buy yourself a metal one.
