A question about steps...
Hey, I got a question on steps for DDR. When arrows come up when you have to hit two in a row with the same foot, like: Left, right, down or right, down, left, OR left, up, right and other arrows like those. Should I be hitting the last two arrows with the same foot or kinda turn around and hit them? If you don't get what I mean, then for example, the arrows left, down, right, come up. Should I hit them with my left foot on the left arrow, my right foot on the down arrow, and then quickly move my right foot to the right arrow and stay facing the same way, or should I hit the left arrow with my left foot, the down arrow with my right foot, and then turn around and hit the right arrow with my left foot? The reason I'm asking this is because doing the first method (hitting them with the same foot) gets me really tired, and I don't really know which one is faster.

well, that is the question isn't it. (for the sake of simplicity, I call your method 2 "turning") I, personally, don't turn on a lot of songs, but I do when it's easy and not incorperated into a stream. For instance, CSFIL(SM)'s beginning is LDRD LDRD LURU LURU LDRD LDRD, which is easier to do with turning, and really simple at that. On everything but that kind of step pattern I double step (method 1). IMO turning looks better, and is more efficient, but harder to pick up, especially if you're good at double stepping, however double stepping isn't necessarily more difficult. I have a friend who only double steps, and he's better than my friend who turns a lot. That said, it is actually easier to be more accurate turning, and it does make some songs a lot easier. For instance, the difficult streams in Paranoia Survivor and PSM are easier by a lot to turn on, though definately possible with double stepping.
A lot of people will say to learn to turn, and I think it's a good idea, but if you are really stuck in your ways (like me), it is possible to just get better at double stepping. Basically, I say do what you want, what feels better. Personally, when I turn I loose my bearings of where the arrows are because your body is turned more then 90 degrees. |

ill tell you that double stepping is very effective if youre good at, but so is turning...whatever feels better to you, do it...i double step and there is almost nothing i cant do on DDR...if youre not comfortable the way you play DDR, you will never be any good...and you wont be good if youre tired either...go with the one easiest for you and stick to it

Same here. I think that if I try to turn more often (I've been trying to do it more frequently) I'll get better at it and I'll be able to read the arrows.

reading the arrows shouldnt have anything to do with how you step...or the way you step isnt going to make it easier to read the arrows

I'm good at double stepping and I'm ok at turning. The problem with me turning is on something like LDRD LDRD LDRD using my right foot for the lefts and rights, is half the time I miss and hit the top edge of the right pad. Witch doesn't always set it off. I'm good at all the other arrow combonations and at the end of the song I'm not half as tired as if I were to have double stepped it. I guess I just have to work on it some more.
