Re: Velocity Engine Multiplayer
yay~
Is this ever going to be integrated into the normal ffr_Wide swf, or will it just remain two separate swfs?

Re: Velocity Engine Multiplayer
If you use a standalone player, you can extend the bottom of the box to show multiplayer. However, you'll need quite a tall screen to do so, since I just tried it on my 1920x1080 screen and failed to fully show the multiplayer bit (since the player likes to make the main part of the velo engine in the middle, it keeps it equidistant from the top and bottom).

Can you guys do a lag test on this one? I rewrote how game updates are sent to the server. The only disadvantage of this updates are no longer realtime, but the server couldn't handle that anyway. |

Re: Velocity Engine Multiplayer
Well I identified right away a feature this could use- a way to back out of a song you've already loaded if the other person suddenly doesn't want to play that song...

Re: Velocity Engine Multiplayer
LOL okay here's a bug:
I left the settings window open when the MP match started and it crashed my flashplayer hahaha probably crashes if you leave the shop or the news up as well... EDIT- tested a few more things. Left a music preview running when the match started and it canceled the preview music like it's supposed to, so that works. However if you leave the chat bar highlighted as you play you get asklsakslakslksasklksakslskasklslaksklksasklalsklksasklakslksakslklsaskaksllkllkskasakklsaksalsklksalkaklskaslkasklsakaslkslksalsaslllklklaskasklaklkasasssaklskaslkalksakslksasklskalsklksasklakslksasklalsksasklksaksklksasklskasklkslsaklkkllsklakaslslaskaklaalklskslksalksslaksasasllssklksalkalslklklskalklklklklksakslksklsksaaalkkslslakasklslkskaalslsllsssallkakaksllskksakaaalkksllsaaslklkslslkkaasasslkaksasasasasasklakslksasklsklksakslskasklskasklakslksaksasklakslksakslasklksalkslksakslksasklalsklksakslksakslskasklksasklaksklsksasklkasklksakslksaksasklksasklsklksasklksaksasklksaksklksasklsklksasalsklasklksasklsklksasklksksasklksasklsksklksasklsklksasklksasklksaalkskslalakssaaksksllklaksalkslaslksalksalsksakslasklkslaksaksklslaklsksakalslkakslakslkskasklaklakslsakalsklskasklalskalskasklsasklskasklakslksasklksaksalsklksakslasklksakslksasklakslksaksasklskasklksakslksalskaksklksasklksasklsksasklasklksklksakslksaksasklasklaksklsaklksasklkasklaklsksalakslkaslksakslaskalkslkaksaklsaksklaslaklsalkslksalkslaksklalsasklksalsklakskskaskkslkasklkslsklaklaslkslaksasksksksksk In the chat when you're done lol (major bonus points of anyone knows what file that is) I got one really bad lag at the start of the match but after that it wasn't totally unplayable- I was basically able to get my normal PA, but it was definitely slightly choppier than usual. The lag seemed to get worse as the song went on... EDIT 2- Yeah, to test the "lag gets worse as the song goes on" theory we played a 5 minute song- I noticed the lag after about 1 minute, and even the piss easy parts were totally unplayable after like 4 minutes. This is compared to me being able to AAA like normal for the first 30 seconds or so. The lag is definitely getting worse as the song goes on. EDIT 3- Played Lolo and there was no lag. Absolutely certain now that the lag is somehow related to the length of time the match has been going on. EDIT 4- Tested sidescroll (I failed miserably lol, but all in the name of science!) and it seems that different scroll mods are working fine, so that's good for all the downscroll players out there ^_^ EDIT 5- I joined a room with a game in progress and the scores are displaying fine, obviously not real-time but fast enough (the speed at which the score display refreshed is clearly linked to the speed of the person's internet, Hakulyte's displayed almost in real-time whereas icyworld's display was like a slideshow lol) Oddly though it showed "no song selected" instead of what they were actually playing. This fixed itself once I was there for the players actually selecting the song, but it seems if you join in the middle as an observer, the song name doesn't show up. Or possibly this is related to the bug Hakuylte found where the song title turns invisible, not sure if he was still testing that when I showed up. EDIT 6- Here's another bug. Not sure what's going on here tbh...

Re: Velocity Engine Multiplayer
Had a bit of an issue joining as a player earlier today. I was playing alone while sitting in the main lobby before hand so I'm not sure whether or not this has anything to do with it. Anyhow, I was just clicking on "join" but it wasn't registering so I reloaded my SA and it seemed to fix the issue.

Re: Velocity Engine Multiplayer
I think most of those lag issues would be solved if there was a way for people to chat while a game is in session without causing the people playing to lag. That would definitely be a MAJOR bug fix for that issue. As for the other issues that hi19/sweet_feet mentioned, having those fixed would definitely make MP much more stable and replayable.

Re: Velocity Engine Multiplayer
Meh I think I'm done, reported everything I could find above.
The thing with it displaying how many spectators are in the room was really weird, it seemed to never update at all unless you left the room and re-joined. Hakulyte said he found some glitch that makes your song name disappear, I'll let him explain that. If there's no way to fix the lag caused by having people talk in chat, at the very least lock the chat entirely while a match is going so people can't grief. That would also be a cheap fix for the aslksakslakslakslakslaklsalskalskalskksksllllaksksa problem

Re: Velocity Engine Multiplayer
You can't random songs from the list.
Other than that, I can play in browser with minimal lag spikes.

Re: Velocity Engine Multiplayer
The settings page is opening and closing on it's own, despite refreshing...
Also I can confirm Hi19's progressive lag - below minute songs are fine, but as the song progresses lag becomes more and more unbearable.

Re: Velocity Engine Multiplayer
Hi19 is definitely on to something with song lengths.

Re: Velocity Engine Multiplayer
From what I can tell so far yes. The first 350-400 notes of No Purpose Flower just now were amazingly smooth but I picked up some lag afterwards.
Playing with SA9, windows classic theme, low quality and a hidden PA count btw. Haku is lag free right now on v2. Last edited by Sweet_Feet; 11-1-2011 at 01:22 PM.. |
