Speedmods
Hey people. I tried jacking up my speed mod from 1.85 to 2.0x so I can read the patterns on files like Reality and bmv.578 but right now I am really struggling to PA 16ths on some of the easier files like on Hanabi. Do you have any tips for quickly adjusting to a higher speedmod? How long does it usually take for your skill to get back to normal?
On a side note, what speedmods do you guys all use? Do you think a faster speedmod will make you better? |

Re: Speedmods
I use 1.85x right now. Try going up by .05 until 2.0, I think it might help.

Re: Speedmods
1.75 or 1.8 depending on what I feel like, never going higher.

Re: Speedmods
Keep practicing is key, but if you want, you can continue to use 1.85 for the songs that aren't so squished and use 2.0 for the harder songs. I know some people who switch between speedmods to accommodate the song they are playing.

Re: Speedmods
If you want to accurately play at 2x
Go play o 2.15x for a couple games the resort back to 2x Seems slower and is then easier to read. Your PA should increase since your hands have gotten used to being faster >.> |

Re: Speedmods
If you feel as though you are ready to go to a higher speedmod, then you shouldn't have much trouble transitioning directly from a speedmod like 1.75x/1.85x and going to 2x. Your skill will not be as good as normal immediately, but it should be pretty much the same, probably better, within a few days in terms of speed. Since you are jumping to a new speedmod you are trying to pa 1.85x on 2x, which will result in a lot more goods/averages/etc, this will go away pretty much when you feel 100% comfotable with the adjustment.
If you want to adjust to a speedmod (or be able to read a speedmod better) faster, you can increase the speedmod even higher (like 2.2 or 2.3) which will be rediculous to you (who was at 1.85) to read. After playing like 5 or 10 songs go back to the desired speedmod, and it should feel much slower and you'll be able to get used to it quicker. You could also increase your current speedmod by .05 or so, play a song, increase it again and play again, until you hit your speed mod (or something more comfortable). Not sure which would work better for you, try either one. I currently use 2.2x, and it seems to be a decent speedmod for me. Also, faster speedmods definately make you play better if you can read them. The farther the arrows are apart from eachother, the easier it is to make out the patterns they create...and the easier it is to pa them.

Re: Speedmods
I use 2.0. A while back I used 1.0, but then I slowly went up to to using 1.25->1.5->1.75->2 (the only options available back then )
I really have no intentions of increasing it, everything seems fine the way it is |

Re: Speedmods
I use 2.0X. Its a generic speed mod, but it works for me. I might change it later when I get to god status on my skills.

Re: Speedmods
Why so fast?... I use 1.5x but ffr and the DF engine are different. I use 1.5x on ffr, and just bumped it up on DF to about 1.6x. After playing SM, ffr feels weird now :3

Re: Speedmods
Because 1.5X felt too slow for me. And plus, I use C600 on SM and 2.0X on FFR is the equivalent to C620, so nothing is too noticeable between FFR and SM.

Re: Speedmods
Everyone's different for some people bumping up is helpful and for some its not. I moved up a few times. I now play 2.25x and can play up to 2.75x but that's just a little excessive lol. I can't seem to do well on anything under that because I hit early otherwise. Bumping up worked for me because I have less reaction time. Adjusting from 1.85 to 2.0 shouldn't be too hard for you just takes some practice.

Re: Speedmods
History of my speedmods.
April 07-June 07: 1x June 07-December 07: 1.5x December 07-July 08: 1.75x July 08-March 09: 2x March 09-Death of FFR: 1.95 Current: 1.89x Why 1.89? It just seems perfect to me. 1.9 is like fast for me and 1.88 seems crammed together to me, especially on tricky parts.

Re: Speedmods
1.85 > 2.0 might be too large of an increase for such a short period of time. Try to increase in increments of .5 every two days or so.
Faster speed mods don't necessarily make you better per say, but they make it easier to READ denser step charts; REACTING to them is a completely different thing. I'm using 1.85 right now, and don't really plan on increasing it anytime soon. |
