Re: My Mom Blames Everything on Videogames
Focus your energy you spend thinking about video games, and concentrate it on 2 or more things, (I'll explain later). I know the addiction of video games, and I hit rock bottom almost dropping out of high school because of it. This is an addiction, and don't let your self sink into the downward spiral I did obsessing with video games. Don't blame your sister, don't blame your parents, don't even blame your self. Blame your addiction. It's so powerful that you simply can not focus all that energy the addiction drains into school work because school work blows, I understand.
Separate the massive amounts of energy your addiction requires into at least 2 or more activities that require lots of energy. 1 being school work, and 2 being something new and anything that doesn't involve electronics. Some take up a sport, some take up a hobby, a job, some take up an instrument. I took up all of them to help (not completely break) my addiction. I started paintball, skateboarding, got a job at macy's, I picked up drums and spent a lot of time working on songs with my band, and I started participating in the high school plays and musicals. All those things put together is what saved me in high school. I was capable of straight A's, but video games kept me from that goal even after I was cured from my addiction. After doing all my homework instead of studying more than I should have, I would only play about an hour of video games and would be ok with not going a day without them. Before I would easily spend 6-12 hours a day on video games. Your addiction will only get worse if you can't admit to your self that you are addicted. Don't call WoW a freedom. It's closed you into a world other than reality and is affecting the real world you live in. I can tell you are addicted, there are obvious signs. But think seriously to your self Why you are addicted. Your subscription may make you feel obligated to play. So cancel the subscription and play free games. You can make other friends in other less addicting games. My final advice is to: 1. Stop WoW cold turkey and sell your account 2. Stop blaming teachers, parents, sister whatever. It's your addiction that's making you do this because it needs video games and it's trying to find an excuse 3. Your addiction demands you play a video game, so try out other free online games and make new friends there but limit your self to only 1 hour after homework, start there, if grades get better, play more, but don't ever pick up WoW again. 4. Boost your grades by focusing your addiction energy into other outlets that keeps you busy in the Real world and gives you time for homework 5. Don't argue with your parents, you'll find out later in life that they are 98% of the time always right. They're trying to help you before you hit rock bottom like I did My advice is coming from hardcore first hand experience as to what happens when your life is ruled by video games. If you care about your future and don't wanna flip burgers the rest of your life, Force your self to change. Last edited by sciron37; 04-19-2007 at 07:47 PM.. |

Think about your parent's point of view: you are doing poor in school. Why? Because you aren't studying. Why aren't you studying? Because you are spending all your time playing video games.

Odd, ever since I started playing WoW, my grades went up dramatically.

I balance school, running, music, and still manage to be a great runner, a great musician, and an A student. AND I have time for FFR. It's not impossible to get good marks, just focus on school and less on video games.

Video games have their benefits most definitely. There's been scientific studies on video games and how they can teach... hmm I'll try and find the article. But you're pretty lucky because that's not the case with everyone Tsug ;P

Re: My Mom Blames Everything on Videogames
I'm not addicted...my parents are just old fasioned when it comes to computers.
"OMG u've been on that since 8 it the morn and now its 9...u ganna be on that all day" I really only play from 8(I wake up early) till 10:30 where I get ready then go outside only because nobody's up by then...and yes I do my hw first. If I could play in the week I would only play after my hw (or mabey half hour after i get home from school) then if I cna't find anything to do after calling everyone I'll probably play DDR till im tired check things out again then play WoW |
