Re: Halo 3
Your thread was about Halo 3, was it not?
We have a thread for Halo 3. I put it in there. If there's a thread for a game, anything that falls within that game falls within that thread. End of story. If we didn't do it like this, our forums would be cluttered with crap. I know of some forums that let you post a new thread for every episode of a tv show that comes out so you can discuss it individually. They do it for long-running shows like Naruto and Bleach. Imagine 200+ individual threads for one show. It's just stupid. |

Re: Halo 3
I let that live because it's not about any one game.
For example, we have a Halo and a Halo 2 thread. Where should I have put that thread? It's rare that we get comparison threads that don't fall apart in a day, so I let it live. I shouldn't need to justify my moderation, though. |

I played through the Halo 2 co-op with a friend a couple days ago, so now I'm seriously considering picking up Halo 3. |

Holy shit it's cup and ball!!!!! But yeah seriously the Mutliplayer is much better...at least in Halo3 with the super moon jumping Theoretically making you as "moronic" as Sqeek you would have the same level intelligence as him. I say you should try hard to achieve this as you will never have equal intellect as Squeek because obviously you are a dumb ass. Last edited by fido123; 10-16-2007 at 06:43 PM.. |

Re: Halo 3
There are so many ways to play that game. I personally think the hardest one is to get the cup on the ball instead of the ball into tho the cup. Try it, it took me a long while to get it.

Halo sucks.
Buy The Orange Box, or go to hell. It's your choice.

Re: Halo 3
I'd like to ask why Halo (the original) is considered overhyped? It took a control scheme (that's still used in most shooters today), added vehicles you could drive in the campaign, allowed for a two player campaign (that more games are introducing now.. thank god), and was fairly basic so that anyone could play it and still have fun. And I don't remember it being all that hyped about when it came out.
Overhype is an overused bull**** term anyway. "I don't like the game because it's overhyped." Oh really? You're so right, I like games because they're overhyped. Does that mean you won't play a game that's actually good because it's overhyped? Can only the under the radar games be the only good games? What the hell man?.. But.. I'm getting off-topic. I didn't start liking Halo until... well.. I guess the first time I bought it. I remember buying it for about $20 or such. I don't really remember why I even bought the thing. Probably because a friend had it and kept talking about how great it was and I'm one of those "Play it to believe it kind of guys." I can't describe it, but I really liked the game. Run, shoot, throw grenades, jump high, dodge, fun fun fun. Halo 2 on the other hand, I never really liked. It seemed more sparatic than Halo. Probably because of the changing to the arbiter and back and the distinct lack of an Assault Rifle. Or maybe it was the fact that I was never good at the multiplayer on it. Not even close to good unless it was guarding something.. but that's the easier point of the game I guess. And now out comes Halo 3 which I already decided I was going to get a while ago if not for the fact that I wanted a game I could play with more than 7 friends. (Gears) And a game I could go through with my sister and she'd actually like. The campaign is good for a few run-throughs. Once to play the game, and another to better understand the story. And another to play around with a friend or three in. Multiplayer campaigns are probably one of the best things to ever be included in a video game. Loved them ever since Perfect Dark (Goldeneye clone but.. myeh. Laptop gun.) and am really happy about having them more in games. If you have a brother or sister, I suggest getting at least the first one and see if you like it. If you do, you'll love Halo 3's... About the multiplayer, I don't know what I can say as to why I like it, I just do. Maybe that's what Halo 3 is. It's one of those games you just have to play. If you like it, that's cool. If you don't, that's cool too. Don't get bought into the BS that is "overhyped games suck". Try it yourself, then if you don't like it, you can actually tell people why. |

Re: Halo 3
It's overrated.
People give it credit for innovation in fields where it is not innovative. Like you just did. All of the things people credit Halo for being the "first" to do had been done before. All of it. The game is horribly easy and takes no skill at all. I never once found myself hiding behind a rock or a tree or whatever to try to scope out the situation or protect from oncoming fire. All you had to do was run in with the assault rifle after throwing a grenade and everything dies. Not only that, but the campaign is pathetically short. FPSes can be so much longer than 6-10 hours. I don't know why it has become a trend these days, but I'm quite sick of it. They load the disc up with multi-player features and crap like that. If you want to see why the FPS fans of this site call Halo overrated, then you simply have to play the following games. 1) Story - Bioshock / Half-Life / Half-Life 2 2) Multiplayer - Unreal Tournament / UT2004 3) Puzzle - Portal 4) Control scheme - Metroid Prime 3 |

Re: Halo 3
And I'm saying Halo came out before those games. The original Halo. The only one off the top of my head that it may not have been before is Half-life. But then again.. I never said the story was all that great.
Halo 3 is not a god in it's generation by any means, but it is a good game. Worthy of an 8 (8.5.. tomayto, tomahto) in my opinion, but not a 10. Does that mean it's overhyped? Yeah it does, but not by much. The campaign does seem alot easier than In Halo or Halo 2 but I'm guessing it was just scaling back from the difficulty of the other two. On the original and the second one, I found it hard to get past the first freaking level. On this, the levels sure kicked my ass, but I got through them eventually. Wait.. throw a grenade then run in? What the hell were you playing? I've tried that before and ended up having my shields torn to pieces before I was even halfway into the damn room. Unless you tried it on an easier difficulty, in which case I agree. It is too easy. Then again, maybe you're just good at shooters. The reason why I think the opinions of people on this board believe that Halo is overhyped is because they own other consoles or more importantly a gaming PC. I personally think that each game should be judged on it's own merit. Not what came behind it.. but that won't happen. Offhand, does Bioshock really take off from System Shock 2 as much as I've heard it does? I guess my main point is that Halo 3 is a good game. It doesn't deserve to be thrown to the ground and kicked. It's not as "outstanding" as the hype says, but it's not bad either. |

Re: Halo 3
I'm not saying Halo borrowed from those games. I'm saying that those are way, way better games.
Also, Half-Life and Unreal Tournament came out before we even started writing our years with a "2" in the front. |

Re: Halo 3
I believe that. Half-life 2 was amazing. Bioshock was wonderful. Haven't played Prime. Unreal is a godly series in it's own right. Portal just looks amazing with physics from what I've seen.
Of course there are better games, but Halo 3 isn't a bad game. It's overhyped for sure, but the overhype isn't all that much. It has a good story, good multiplayer, good customization, and is a great "party" game. Having all that in one game is probably the reason it sold so well. If I had known The Orange Box was coming out two weeks after.. I would have delayed my buy on Halo 3. Mainly because I want Half-life 2 to be redeemed from it's Xbox loadfest that I hated so bad. And didn't know that about Unreal Tournament. Then again.. I'm in love with Championship. Last edited by Telvanni_guard; 10-17-2007 at 01:50 PM.. |

Re: Halo 3
Idea specific to Halo: the shield and recharging system.
And Sqeek I found the part of your post where you said it was too easy and doesn't require skill really funny. If you dedicated your life to getting good at Halo, I'd guartuntee you still couldn't hang with the best players.

Re: Halo 3
There were countless games before that which had health that regenerated but it wasn't a shield. Who really gives a crap about what is making your health regenerate.
