I've noticed that once I play for a while, hitting notes becomes more reflex than making an actual effort.

But then sometimes that reflex completely shits the bed and i hit a solid wall of goods.

hm

I tackle a lot of songs that are WAY out of my skill level (see: my goal of AAAing all the Venetian Snares songs) and that really stacks up the boos when I freak out. I have no idea how people can track so many arrows, even with speed mods.

How do you do it

ps. do you all see arrows when you close your eyes? this game is driving me up a wall

When I first started playing this game, I did see arrows when I closed my eyes. I think it's because they're still trying to adjust since you're brand new.

it's exactly what you said at the start of your post: give it time and practice, and later you'll just be turning on autopilot.

I don't think I've really experienced this since maybe when I first started playing, but I know I've experienced this effect before from Tetris lol.

You need to create a comfort zone for yourself where you optimize how much energy you use to hit every patterns. You can directly control how that zone works by changing speedmod and see how you react visually by playing. As for patterns, it's pretty much the same for everyone, when you start playing you see arrows one by one, after you start noticing patterns that are always the same and your "muscle memory" adapt from practice and slowly know exactly when/how/etc. to hit keys.

I occasionally see arrows when I listen to music with well defined beats. Side effect of 12 years of ddr/stepmania/itg.

Focus on reading before accuracy since that's what the game is mostly about.
