Eye Appointment :(
I know I sound like a wuss here but later today in the afternoon I have to go get my eyes dilated and checked and I'm actually kind of nervous here.
Has anyone here ever had there eyes dilated? If so could you tell me the details of what the doctor does during the session? I know I'm freaking out over a dumb little thing that probably won't take longer then 20 minutes but when it comes to "Doctors" I absolutely cringe and have a mental breakdown at the idea. |

Re: Eye Appointment :(
Getting them dilated just makes it so your eyes don't adjust to light, it's so they can check something..I have no idea what lol. He'll put the drops in and then shine a light in your eyes and then as far as I can remember that's pretty much it. They'll stay dilated for a while though afterwards so people will think you're on drugs lol. It's nothing to get worried about.
btw correct me if i'm wrong on any of that, I'm no expert XD |

When you get your eyes dilated, everything will become very blurry for about 20-30 minutes. But when you go outside, you'll have to wear those old people sun glasses. It sucked for me. Luckily, I didn't get made fun of.

Re: Eye Appointment :(
That sucks I was hoping I could just bring a normal pair but they'll probably hand me the ones you were talking about. I also heard that you have to wear them about 2 hours after the appointment because that's how long the effect lasts.

Re: Eye Appointment :(
With or without sunglasses? Because bright lights can be harmful after getting your eyes dilated.

It was dark when I went on but the screen was pretty bright, didn't hurt too much though.

Re: Eye Appointment :(
Bah, I have to get this done at least once a year to check a genetic disorder. They just drop a couple of drops in your eyes, and it basically makes your pupils huge. It's more of a pain in the ass than anything else. You won't be able to see well for like an hour.
Hrm...I've never worn sunglasses afterwards, though. I probably should, that's a good idea =^.^= |

Re: Eye Appointment :(
I have an astigmatism in my left eye. When I got my eyes dilated, my right eye shrank back to normal within 45 minutes, and my left eye slowly shrank back in over more than an hour. Looked sorta like this: o_O
Speaking of eyes, I have to wear glasses to school. My vision, if I can remember correctly, is 20-40. Last edited by V3T_ddrultramix3; 07-21-2007 at 10:41 AM.. |

Re: Eye Appointment :(
Beh. I have astigimatism in both eyes also. It formed in my right eye, and I just found out about 2 months ago that I have it in my left eye. Everytime I go outside, I have to wear sunglasses if its sunny. Doctor said that the suns UV rays are bad for your eyes, specially if ya have astigimatism. So yea, I listen to him. .
Even bright lights hurt my eyes, but not as much as the sun. Oh. I'll be walking down the street, and within 2 minutes my eyes will be strained and then its hard to see. Not to mention I grind my teeth so, I have the teeth of a 40 year old. and Im only 16. Yay XD |
