if I have time I'll actually sit down and make something from scratch so don't bother touching it—list it as green for now

It's my stylistic choice because I'm a minimalist that loves white space and focus on pure typography, highly influenced from my print design work. I mentioned before I'm absolutely elitist with type work and type matters more to me than image—find me any person in this community that actually thinks this way. I'm not pleasing you as the graphics manager, I'm pleasing myself as the person who actually stepped the file in the first place—it is my file after all, so ultimately this is my decision to choose what graphics I'd like to use. If it was graphics for files that weren't mine, I would do shit completely different and with more visuals anyways because everyone wants pretty SHIT all up in their faces. But for the sake of what -I- want, this works for the simple fact that a lot of graphics for my own files are similar to this, so I'd like to keep a consistency going with it. For example, although much more complex:

they may be "plain" to you but they are absolutely gorgeous to me.
Simple, efficient, and typographybased graphics impress me more than hyper layered, multi-effect text stuff. Almost looks like a banner of a faction within a game world to me.
"Polished" is the world that fits them well, imo.

i was thinking a community voting for packs with multiple graphics could be better in the end. we make a thread and let people pick the set they find to be better.

EDIT: i still think that bird sprite graphic looks really boring, does not capture the mood of the song and even the typography (the only notable part of the graphic) is sloppy and inconsistent. I don't mind you doing it that way, it is your file afterall, but in my opinion that is still amateur level graphic and i don't think you have developed your concept really well in the set you posted.

"Sloppy and inconsistent" in what way? You're talking to a guy that strictly adheres to rules and conventions of typography who also spends more time typesetting than actual image working on a daily basis. My method of typesetting was learned from industry professionals that have been and are still working for decades from both my graphic design program and at my current design internship. I'm probably one of the most knowledgeable people on this site when it comes to typography, so it really offends me that you claim that what I do is amateur-ish when I've been learning from industry and academic professionals for several years—this isn't something I learned on my own, sitting on my ass watching YouTube tutorials while working from a cracked version of Adobe software I torrented.

You can share your own opinion on typesetting, but that's not to say that it's factual and that your way should be the only way to do it. Yes, I see the graphics are plain and boring, but I choose to design this method—I defy the Stepmania graphic norms of loading graphics with as much shit and effects as possible in favour of print design influenced minimalism and simplicity. It is something I've always done at my own discretion ever since I began to pursue a career as a designer—print design can work equally as well for screen design is what I'm implying. Something as simple as a solid coloured background with some nicely set designer typefaces can suffice and serve even better than some fancy hipster shit slapped together with horrible typefaces downloaded from dafont loaded with with bad Photoshop effects.

In the end, these are the graphics I wish to use for my file. Take it or leave the old, shitty abstract piece I stole from osu! that doesn't satisfy what I want in the graphics. If you choose to remake the graphics set on your own accord, include it as an alternate set but do not use it as the main.
