Don't take my advice 4 eye am a nooblet, but I used to go it one hand, but now I'm trying to practice with two.
I put left middle on left key, left index on up key, right index on down key, and right middle on right key. This makes the most sense to me, but also consider that my playing style is for the arrows to move in an upward motion, so directionally it makes sense so it's easier. If you were to have a different playing style then it all changes. To each his own |

Newbie here, too, but so far I've just been using the arrow keys the same way I always do -- right index finger on the left arrow, right middle finger on up and down arrows, right ring/third finger on the right arrow. I do get the feeling that this is a bit restrictive and using both hands may allow for better play. But it seems like trying to get two hands over on keys that close together will feel awkward. Trying to find a comfortable position for fingers and hands seems tough. But maybe I'll try a pattern here if it feels OK.

http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/...ewtopic&t=9553 The term 'noob', 'newbie', 'n00b' or any variation thereof makes me feel like cringing. It sounds bloody stupid and when you see it all over the place, you learn to hate. And, to the topic of the thread, Previously one-hander, now indexes. -Nemosta. |

I'll also note something about the stats sig that I read in another thread -- you have to get a high enough score before it will work for you. As I understand it, you have to have a rank or 150000 or better before the sig will work for you. I guess below that, the board doesn't think it's worth showing off your stats.
Using just the index fingers could work OK. A little more moving and changing around, but that might be a little easier than trying to get two fingers from each hand on the keys. Well, I can play around with trying out various finger positions when I have time.

And about the fingers, I use the same as baseball... index on left, middle on up/down, ring on right... but if it has the up and down thing at the same time...I stretch out my middle so i could hit both keys .....I sometimes strain alot if it goes back and forth...like up and down then right and left, then up and down....i hate that..

I'm surprised that I'm the only one doing it the sameway as doob.
( left middle on left, left index on up, right middle on right, right index on up ) Actually, I think the best way to do it would be one-handed. However, to compete with the best, that's not possible. I love it how many of the good players bitch about how all the songs are so easy, yet I doubt most of them would ever switch to one-handed technique. If there was a way to enforce one-handed playing (not possible) I'd play one-handed, but since I want to compete, two hands, it is. |

ok, i dont know if this makes me weird but i only play with 1 hand. ive never even tryed playing with 2 hands but so far im realy succesfull the way im doing it. i have finished every song difficult and up at least 1ce with one hand without banging but i wonder if i could do even better with 2 hands. if u people think i would do better with 2 hands then can u tell me where 2 place my fingers. like on my right hand, which fingers do i use and for what arrows, and for my left hand the same question. this may help me become an even better ffr playa

doubleJJ9, just read posts earlier in the thread. The last time I looked over it, I wrote down all the different finger combinations I saw mentioned -- I counted 10 different ones. There could be a few more now, I haven't checked, but there's a limit to the number of possible variations; it's more limited when you factor in what's comfortable. You can also just experiment on your own and see what feels good to you. There's no particular way you have to do it.
As I might have said already, I normally play with one hand. I've tried two, usually on some of the higher level songs, but it's hard for me to adjust to it. Maybe I should try getting used to it with easier songs first, then work it up to the higher ones. I suspect it will help to use two hands, but I'm not really comfortable doing so right now. What I should do though for my normal one handed playing is adjust so that I'm not using only my middle finger on both up and down all the time. Letting the index finger slide between left and down may help me a bit on faster parts using both up and down. It's kind of hard to hit those with just the middle finger.

Finally someone who found the way I use comfortable! Your right hand is also on top, right? Do you also turn the keyboard for a better angle? I have my keyboard tilted about 30 to 40 degrees. What kind of keyboard are you using? |

I use Brainmaster's default setup.
Left: L Middle Down: L Index Up: R Middle Right: R Ring This was useful when making the switch from one-handed to two-handed. All I did was sub in the left hand for the left and down. ~Squeek |

I play one handed. It's not hard at all, in fact I find it easier.
Right middle = ^ Right middle = v Right index = < Right ring = >
