Re: ITT: Solo packs
Anything that requires you to use your middle finger and ring finger really quickly.
Other than that, you should be fine (but do not abuse quadruples, quintuples, and sextuples .

Re: ITT: Solo packs
I've totally started to play and enjoy solo. I love how much more you can add to simfiles and how they are all of really excellent quality. So much fun to play.
I went to DDRUK and downloaded the bumper packs for the DDR Solo mixes. They are generally easy, but at least they make sense and are fun to play. And AREN'T autogen! Are there any other beginners files other than the ones included with the Beginner Packs? |

Re: ITT: Solo packs
I wish this was a sticky or something so everyone can view it easily. This thread deserves it in my opinion since not a lot of people know where to get solo packs from.

Re: ITT: Solo packs
remember how one handed trills were really annoying on singles?
well imagine something like 12132312321321. basically don't do **** like that or (13)2(13)2(13)2(13)2 (called bracketing) unless it's rly slow edit: dude just step ANY song for solo. hell find ur favourite singles and make solo conversions edit2: outside of the xbmps and scattered files w/ easy charts in the 92/96/62 solo file packs and ddr solo files you'd only be able to find other easy solo charts by looking for the rare esoteric pad file maker who makes solo charts. if you want more pester someone or make some yourself lol

Re: ITT: Solo packs
Bracketing patterns are (13)2(13)2(13)2 or (46)5(46)5(46)5 (you mixed up the numbers)
P.S. Xiao, come over to my house again and you can dig through my albums and stepmania for more songs

Re: ITT: Solo packs
Quote:
As said before, avoid heavy ring finger usage unless you're making a solord level chart. Brackets are probably the single hardest pattern to do on solo due to the way your hand tendons are designed. Jacks should be avoided more in solo and switched to trills whenever possible, though jacks when used properly - see POOPY TIME FUN SHAPES or my PxFxS file - can still be fun. Use sparingly though or you'll get a chart like Red Zone which very few people like and only play for the difficulty factor. A tip from the get-go if you're an aspiring solo stepper - use the 1 and 6 keys less frequently while focusing the bulk of your notes and hard patterns on 2345. You might ask, "But doesn't that make it just like a singles chart?" The answer is no; this is for easier files and those who aren't experienced with making difficult charts. All of the files in XSBP2 use this stepping method with the exception of Brimming White oni's piano solo, Zenius -I- Vanisher oni and PxFxS. Venturing into using all 6 keys evenly isn't recommended for new solo steppers IMO. Also, get used to putting bass on the left arrow and snare/cymbals on the right (though you can take liberties with the latter, like putting cymbal crashes as a chord on 34 or something). You can mess around with snare/cymbals/whatever but by convention bass is almost always on the left arrow. There are times where you can deviate from this, but I'm sure you can figure out when it's appropriate and when it's not. I could probably make a thread on this but I'm way too ****ing lazy. Promoting solo is already enough for me.
