I do it multiple ways. Sometimes I tear off one end and blow through the straw on the exposed end. Sometimes I squeeze the straw through, making the straw poke through (if it's a straw with a sharpened edge, I'd let the point do the job). Sometimes I squeeze from the middle letting the straw poke a hole in both ends and slide the condensed paper down one end. I dunno maybe I'm weird.

I don't use straws unless I'm driving then I just bang it on the dash or pull it in the middle until it rips.

When I was a kid, I used to bang it so the wrapper became a tiny condensed tube of paper. Then I would pull it off, put it on the table, and drop water on it, and watch it grow out like worm. Still fun.
