also wanted to make this post:

in regards to the overly aggressive posts in regards to placements, I am going to refer you back to the front post and remind you that starting drama in the forums is not going to be tolerated. Consider this a formal warning (@ Fontsize/Xenorosth/(etc)).

I will tend to these when I get home if things decide to blow up further. Stay on topic and please, by all means -- commence hype.

It's way more than what a dollar would be in terms of time invested. The point being, anybody who is seriously unable to pay a dollar to enter has a way to pay with credits, and by setting the number high, it generally also means either the person has played a lot of FFR (And thus, has a lot of good scoring data to sort them accurately) or is a multi/has a credit wealthy friend (which flags them for the sorting staff to look more closely at their account which weeds out cheating and sandbagging well)

That's not much for the really actives. Especially people who participate in user tourneys and other events.

also just found out I can bring a laptop whilst I'm away for a week during round 1 (though I still have about 4 days to spare if it starts on the 24th)

so if I can find a free WiFi hotspot I'll be dropping off to say hi to you all whilst I try to secure a safe spot

quick suggestion. the first post should include the detail that the tournament is raw scoring. it's on the front page announcements thing, but not the first post.

We were just talking about that haha. There should be some in there later today since there are some people marked as D3 just not by everyone quite yet. I'm sure AJ will work on more placements after work so you'll probably see some later this evening.

Whoa, this exploded last night. People shouldn't be crying wolf now, lol.

I mean, Halogen did say: "PM your concerns with placements."

Pssssst... I think that should be bolded and put a size tag on it in the first post.

Just curious about placements, are the people doing placements solely looking at level ranks and determining off of that? Being a raw scoring tournament I would think it would be wise to snoop through the players forum posts to see if they have posted any scores simply because they could be getting good raw scores but you will never pick that up in a combo scoring dominate list. My example would be Gradiant in D5, looking at his scores they seem to par up with what I am capable of yet he snuck into D5. Im complaining, just using him as an example of good raw scores being posted, but you cant pick it up through level ranks. Since this is a raw scoring tourn, I would think if you are getting good raw scores that should play a factor into where you are placed.

We do try to look around at everything but sometimes things are missed. That's why we welcome people coming to us about placements it's just preferred in PMs to limit drama coming from it. Placements are basically always a rough draft when we first go through. I wish there were a better method for getting more accurate placements. Last tourney ended up fairly solid but it wasn't without fault (in terms of placements).

That's probably the best way to resolve sorting issues, but it is impossible with as many people as sign up now, but would be totally possible with fewer, more serious players who also therefore have more and better scoring data to analyze.
Downsizing tourneys is a step in the wrong direction imo. I agree that it would weed out players who are on the fence competitively but I bet that would only include players who are D1-D4 for the most part. Those divisions would be extremely scarce compared to D5/D6 (I doubt you could find enough D1 players for an elimination tourney who would pay $1). Part of the appeal of the tournament is to see how well you can improve through any level of effort; casual or intense. For newer players it's a good way to get involved in the community a bit too. The fee has its pros and cons for sure though.
