Misanthropy
FFR community, I'd like your thoughts on the following:
When considering what Man is capable of misdeeds and violence, and acknowledging the low level of wisdom of the common man, is it possible not to fall into misanthropy? Do you manage to balance what you love in friends, family and art, against what you hate in Mankind, and end up with a positive view on Man? I guess most people that really think deep about Man end up with a depression, because it isn't the way you were raised to believe; Man can be so very evil, and it is way more common than one might think. At least for myself, I don't know a single thinker that didn't go through severe depression because of this. When you have killed every single illusion about the world, and see it as it is - Man is just an animal formed by Evolution to be selfish in order to preserve itself and its tribe. Please don't focus on that last sentence in your reply, since that is a discussion of its own, my main question is regarding misanthropy. Specforces

I read that book: Misantrope. The word, I'm assuming, follows the morals of the character. I think it is possible, although it may not seem so for those who are aware of it. Some people don't think any deeper than their skin so I would expect few consider the nature of the way they and everyone around them acts. oh crap g2g. Finish this thought later.

The more I think about mankind's actions and whatnot, the more I hate man. It's unbelieveable the amount of times we're screwing ourselves over - pollution, wars, dictatorships, murders... all of society's "norms"... We have become obsessed with making our lifes so convenient that we don't care about the effects on our planet and on our species. Strive to be the best person one can - even if it means stepping over everyone in your way. That's the mentality we've got.
Personally, I know I'm somewhat in the middle - I want to be the best I can, but I also want some way to at least begin fixing our problems. Something mankind in general refuses to do.
