Default So what's the deal here???

So, with classical songs, since they're old, are they free use for anyone? Or do you still have to get permission to use it from the people who recorded it? Hyrogashi, you'd know.

Other question, what are you guys using to create and try out stepfiles? Is it neccisary to use DWI because DWI is acting very glitchy for me.

If it's a classical peice then it can't be copyrighted by anyone

I use SM CVS to create my songs

he means Stepmania btw

www.stepmania.com

but I recommend getting 3.0, not the CVS. I have both and switched back to 3.0 - CVS crashes far too often for me...

No, CVS is way better, one of the main reasons is how it fixes the DWI saving bug

Hold on, would you still make the stepfile with notepad? Do you have to do anything differently than you do with Nestlekwik's guide? What do you save it as? Etc.

Classical songs can indeed by copyrighted depending on who performs them and the age of the song when it was performed/recorded.

ok

1. Make a new song folder and copy your MP3 to it
2. Get any DWI file, copy it to the new folder
3. Delete all the song info, leaving just a blank header (you can now use this file for all following songs
4. Open up stepania and select record/sync and select your song
5. Edit as appropriate

You dont need notepad at all except for prepping the file...

Actually, with CVS there may not be an easier way I dunno...

Ok brb, im going to go play rondo on my piano and then copyright it and sue you for all your G moneys.

Freak, None of the song's needed permission yet because nobody has copyrighted them, mostly because hardly anyone can even preforrm Caprice.

You would only own the rights to the recording, not the actual song.

Anything over 90 years(?) old is in pubic domian. It can be used by anyone for any reason. For example, record it, then sell the rights to a record label.

Well anyway, I guess to keep it updated... I've downloaded stepmania and am practicing making stepfiles by doing "Over my Head" by Lit for a starter. Hmm it'd be nice if I get permission to use that on FFR... well like that's going to happen I have 1 question now... is it impossible to have 3 or 4 arrows on one line in FFR? I did that for one line in the stepfile I'm making so... just want to know.

I believe you can copyright a performance or recording. From what I have been reading this is possible even when a song is out of copyright because of age. You copyright the recording not the song itself therefore making it illegal for some to use your recorded work.

Anyone care to fully read all of this?
