Re: The Solo Scores Thread
Incoherent patterns and extreme bracket abuse (extreme) plague the file. Hold streaming is rarely used outside of over-the-top dumps (re: Malice's Impronta) and even then it's kept to a minimum. Patterns should flow together well; that is, patterns should generally have some sense in their placement and have some form of repetition. In the case of Sakura, notes are just shat everywhere. Every single 1/16 note - I stress, every single one - seems so randomly placed it just shouts "HURF DURF IM GONNA PUT A 1/16 NOTE HERE CAUSE NOTHING SUCCEEDS IT ON MY CURRENT SNAP AND U CANT COMPLAIN ABOUT JAX HUAARRGGHH STEPPING SOLO IS JUST LIKE SINGLES!!!!!111". Not only does the stream appear completely random and incoherent, need I mention ring trill abuse and holding down your middle ringer WHILE SMASHING YOUR INDEX AND RING FINGERS? I don't need to explain how stupid that is, nor why.
I don't hate dumps. I still play 3y3s and Quell a lot even though I can only C them. They strike a balance between difficult patterns, break sections, and sensible note placement. You don't place a 1/16 note down just because another note doesn't follow it; you have to consider the patterns you're creating and whether each hand is hitting an even amount of the pattern to make it considerably less confusing and tiring. I can confidently say I will never play Sakura again.

Re: The Solo Scores Thread
i like hold streams in solo, the only thing i disliked about them in singles was that it restricted patterns to only 3 arrows, but in solo you still have 5 left so its ok, but i guess everyone has their own preferences.
the 16ths actually go to the music btw, i thought they were random too at first because they're very quiet and i had too much trouble trying to read the notes (solo is still tough for me lol) to concentrate on the actual music, but when i played the singles chart (i dont suck at singles so it was easier) i was able to hear them much better. and "holding down your middle finger WHILE SMASHING YOUR INDEX AND RING FINGERS" is stupid, just smash all three fingers, you won't drop the hold and its far more comfortable. also, i didnt find these patterns much more confusing than other dumps like 3y3s, but 3y3s was slower and more repetitive so i could basically mash the same way for the whole song and ended up with a C. and the fact that the patterns are complicated and tiring doesn't make the file worse it just makes it hard, its not a file meant for novice or even intermediate players, its only fitting that a file made for skilled players would seem confusing or tiring to a novice or intermediate level player. and i'm not trying to make you play the file, you clearly dont like it, so there is no reason why you should play it, i just wanted someone who hated it to explain why (thank you) so i could determine if there were actually a lot errors in the file i didnt notice or if people basically hated it because it was too hard for them (pet peeve of mine). /boring rant or whatever you'd call it still curious as to what someone good would get, AA? fc? |

Actually the 16ths are only half there; it's like a dragon force, base snare basebasesnare base snare basebasesnare repeat.

Re: The Solo Scores Thread
Well, I played Foughten Field, but since Photobucket is impossible to upload with my nets, I'll just post what I got.
1420 - 162 - 31 - 1 - 1 - 7 972 combo 292982218 Sightread and first game of the day. Also I'm supremely tired. I'll get a better score on this later.

Felt like playing some Kommi files.
Kinda played like the pop'n chart when you were following the BG melody. Very fun. Argh--that ending just completely pried my AA away. >_> I didn't mash the ending...I promise. >_> <_< >_> Got the hang of it about 1/2 way into it. Whoops misses. Whoops...miss. |
