Default Need help D:

Hey guys - sorry but im VERY inexperienced with this. I need to learn.

I'm trying to set up a website. I am trying to install phpBB but whenever I finish extracting the files and go to the website, the website dosen't even work.

- Do I need to set something up prior before just the forums?
- If so, what/how would I do it?

I'm using cPanel.

Any help would be great. Help me with this, I shall give you all my credits haha.

EDIT:
If talking over skype would be better - i would love that. Thx :)

When you go to the website, what error page do you get back?

Is the webserver even running? Regardless of what you are using you will have to start up the webserver before going to the site.

Check that you can access, say, a simple HTML page and that your webserver is actually running and accessible.

Other than that make sure you have whatever modules you may need (for example, mod_php or some other module that handles PHP, if needed by your web server)

And check your configuration files to make sure everything is set up the way you want.

Also make sure you aren't having some problem with permissions (whatever account runs the web server should have access to the folders/directories the web server needs to operate)

Make sure you're accessing it at one of the ports it is actually running on. The general port for web pages is 80 but if it's anything else, you'll need to append a colon and then the number of the port on the URL. 8080 is also somewhat common.

If you don't have a domain name, use your IP address to access the site.

I hope you get it sorted.
