Re: How long have you gone w/o sleep? Tell me your stories.
Jesus I don’t understand how you guys do more than 2 days, sounds dangerous as hell too.
Personally there have been a handful of occurrences of me staying awake for 36 hours, most of them were done when I had no school simply because I couldn’t sleep at all. Once it reaches 4AM and I still can’t fall asleep, I say «*fuck it*» and do one of those sessions. Most of them end up with me going to sleep at 2PM and waking up at 5PM. It ain’t a good habit I know and I try to avoid that as much as possible nowadays

Re: How long have you gone w/o sleep? Tell me your stories.
I've done about 40 hours during finals period I think 2-3 years ago. Basically early morning to late evening the day after. What made it hard was that most of that time (probably 50% of it at least) was spent studying because I hadn't studied during the semester. In the morning of the second day, I had to drive a whole 10 minutes to get to my bus stop, and I got my first ever (serious) traffic ticket because I apparently skipped a stop sign. The thing is I was so exhausted from the non-stop study that I didn't even know if I had actually stopped or not, so that was a bit scary. I then proceeded to pass my morning and afternoon exams just barely.

Re: How long have you gone w/o sleep? Tell me your stories.
Roughly.... 48 hours.... I was doing a few security gigs back in 2012ish I think and I got called in for a 12 hour shift. I worked that and I thought I had the day off so I decided to stay awake all day to readjust to the daytime life...Only to be called back into work for another 12 hour shift. I got off that shift and immediately died in my bed for like 10 hours
Tl;dr I worked two 12 hour shifts in a row on no sleep |

Re: How long have you gone w/o sleep? Tell me your stories.
Longest I ever went without sleep was about 60 hours. I was only 12 years old at the time, and I paid for it with bad grades that week.
Ain't doing that again.

Re: How long have you gone w/o sleep? Tell me your stories.
It's nearly 48 hours for me.
I've participated in several camps when I was a cadet in one of the youth disciplinary groups over where I live. All of those camps were 2 days long, and most of them involved hiking for 2 whole days, while the rest were for either participating in activities our leaders held or us holding activities for younger cadets. In none of those camps were I able to sleep, even if my body was screaming in pain and I was both mentally and physically exhausted from carrying out the activities. Luckily, after arriving back home, I could get some of the best sleep I would ever have in my life. |

About 48 hours, it wasn't for any particular reason, I just didn't feel like sleeping at the time.

Re: How long have you gone w/o sleep? Tell me your stories.
It was about 55 hours. I was stationed in south korea and finished my year there. Flying back I went from there to a layover in japan, to seattle for another layover, to dallas. I missed my flight from dallas and had to stay the night in the airport then from there to lafayette, LA. Then as soon as I got home like a dumbass I went to a smash tournament in Baton Rouge about an hour and a half away. I fuckin collapsed when I got home lol. It was weird cuz I was going through so many time zones.

Re: How long have you gone w/o sleep? Tell me your stories.
Just shy of 5 days on a drug binge in my teens. It was actually the last time I ever used uppers, as I really didn't like who I was or how I was behaving. I actually stopped drug use altogether when I was 19. Some folks can use them responsibly, or sporadically. I'm not some folks.

Re: How long have you gone w/o sleep? Tell me your stories.
Last day of college. I woke up at like 4pm the afternoon before my morning exam, stayed up all night studying, then took the exam at 9am the next day.
When I got back, I learned that Red Bull had an event the previous night on campus somewhere and two of my friends had helped the Red Bull representative pack up his stuff when the event was done. As a gift those friends were given at least 10 cases of a dozen Red Bulls each, so when I came back from my exam there was just an absolute mountain of free Red Bull in our common room. I figured this was my chance to be irresponsible and figure out how much caffeine I could drink, so like 10 cans of Red Bull later I stayed up all night again playing video games and generally celebrating being done with college, then fell asleep sometime before noon the following day. Probably around like 40 hours awake; after crashing I slept like 16 hours then resumed normal human being hours the next day. Didn't do anything crazy and overall I'm not sure if the experience was worth it, but I had it.

Re: How long have you gone w/o sleep? Tell me your stories.
Surprised I didn't post in this back when, musta been when I wasn't on the site.
My record is roughly 75ish hours back when I was like 19 years old (over a decade ago) and I still remember how fucking bad that felt. I'm not entirely sure why I decided to do it but it was my first paid vacation and I didn't have much going on. This was at a time I was in walking distance to a very well kept DDR Extreme machine so after convincing myself that 70 hours was too easy I attempted to play dance games and possibly might have died. For all I know this being 30-something shit is a fever dream I'm having as I lay pass out at the bowling ally. If I have to reset my sleep schedule (like recently I started working mornings) I can do 24 hours still but FUCK trying to go beyond that. Flip side: Back in 2013 I slept for 36 hours straight after a period of only getting 4 hours of sleep every night, two quick bathroom breaks excluded. That's a weird experience having an entire day missing. Absolutely was gonna ask, lol |

Re: How long have you gone w/o sleep? Tell me your stories.
I think I went more than 24 once before. I don't recall what the occasion was, but I do remember being very tired during the second day and could barely focus on what I was doing.
Honestly, you folks doing more than 24 are wild. |

Re: How long have you gone w/o sleep? Tell me your stories.
When I was in college I'd occasionally go 60~72 hours without sleep. My friends and I did hackathons every few months. It was fun to spend that much time with my friends, but in retrospect, hackathons are just... shitty.
Yeah, you don't HAVE to stay up for the entire weekend, you're "allowed" to sleep, but the culture (at least at the time) is that "sleep is for the weak", and if you take a break from your hackathon project, you clearly don't have enough passion to be a software engineer in Silicon Valley. Because yeah, multimillion-dollar corporations were there, and they were WATCHING. The whole conceit was that "hackathons are good for students because they can show off to recruiters!", but in reality, "hackathons are good for corporations because they get free labor, and they get a whole weekend for free advertising!" These places barely fed you... if you count "PB&J sandwiches without peanut butter" as a meal, I guess. The time I fully embraced socialism is around the time I realized that hackathons only exist to exploit kids. p.s. I have reason to expect that this may have inflicted permanent neurological damage to my brain, don't fucking do it. Fuck Big Tech. You're worth more than that.
