My submissioner':
@CBR: Unless that's some FINE vector work, that image is not scalable like a vector!!! (nor are those brushes. I know you said you weren't participating anyhow but just sayin :3)

If you resize the smart layer to a smaller size or rotate the layer you won't lose quality because the original unaltered data is stored in a seperate .psb file outside of the .psd where it draws the data from (given that you don't resize or in any other way **** with the design anymore pixel-corruption wise in the smart layer once the design is final). A lot of game logos are done in this manner since they sometimes have intricate painted designs (think World Of Warcraft's alliance or horde logos for example). If you make the original let's say.. around 4000 pixels wide at 300 dpi, I highly doubt there's any company that will need bigger. And if they do, they won't notice any upscaling issues. This is more useful for painted designs than vector-ish designs though. If you have a design that'll look just as good as in illustrator then use illustrator, but this was to show that there are ways to make logos in photoshop. Just gotta start out big and think ahead.

Re: Need a job? Artists wanted.
When, and if, you ask us for our information how much information do you want?
p.s Good job Spenner, looks nice. Though, I thought the engine looked like salt shakers for some reason...rofl

Re: Need a job? Artists wanted.
Only penis size and your address. Don't care about the rest.
Spenner, pm me your info. Nice work as usual. CBR0, sorry to say that wouldn't work as a logo, here's why: A logo which is used in a professional manner by a business will be used on a white background 95% of the time, such as business cards, letterhead, etc...so designing something over an existing background is a huge nono. The logo itself needs to be able to stand on its own. You also used a specific type of engine, what if they don't offer that type? Now it's forcing them to carry that specific type simply because its on their card, which might not be in their best interest. Like what was mentioned before, the image of that engine isn't scalable...try resizing that to a 16ft x 20ft billboard size and see how that goes, you'd just get a pixelated mess. Frank. Aside from the border around the image, I think this could work well, the custom "X" shows you put some good thought into this, the design itself could also work against a white background (for the most part anyway, you'd likely have to tweak some of it). It does however feel maybe a little too busy, lots going on in the image...some businesses like busy stuff, but a majority prefer to keep it simple. Pm me your details. Cold Kitten. Same issue as CBR0, this wouldn't work well against a white background, and it appears as though you've put most of your design thought into the background as opposed to the logo itself. It's a pretty bland design, nothing is custom aside from a regular X with a stroke and inner drop shadow applied to it. Maybe try again when you have less family issues going on =( Info = name, phone number, email address, daily hours of availablility would be nice too. |

Re: Need a job? Artists wanted.
You can tell Spenner has learned a little bit from 99designs.com lol.
I highly suggest visiting that site just to get a feel for what a business wants in a logo. Don't have to be all that creative really...just take other peoples ideas and styles, and apply them to your own work. Sounds like cheating, but that's how art works. |

Re: Need a job? Artists wanted.
"Hi this is Xtreme Engines. We're redoing our website and would like a new logo designed. We want something bright red and eye catching. We build big-block v8 engines, so maybe incorporate one of those into the logo as well."
edit: anyway, that should be easy to fix Last edited by MarioNintendo; 08-22-2011 at 09:18 PM.. |

So yes, I recommend looking at some of those huge 99designs contests where there's hundreds of logos submitted, take as MUCH from it as you can. Judge for yourself why the good ones are good, why the bad ones are bad. Recognize what goes into a good logo. (not that mine was the perfect logo by any means but it's something I would have been acceptable ~_~) Think of major businesses. Mcdonalds. If you can make an entire corporate chain recognized with just a yellow M, that is an effective logo. You want an icon that right away tells you what the attached business is. You should be able to glance as a billboard while on the highway, see the logo, and remember what the company was, by the way it looked. Whenever possible, less is more. But think it through.

Re: Need a job? Artists wanted.
Website isn't working for me and a tip in advance for him: register a domain name. This link is way too long. People who have his business card or anything won't be bothered typing an url that long. Right now the only thing that comes up when I search for Servel Graphics on google is linkedin, and it links to a bunch of other sergio valesquez' as well.
edit: nvm it does work but it's slow as balls for me. Idk if it's like that for anyone else, but if it is, he should find a better place to host cause a normal client would've been like: Taking too long bye

Re: Need a job? Artists wanted.
Question:
What is our logo/trademark? Who do I tell people I work for?
