Default how to ? from a stepfile newb

how do u set a video as a background? i see it all over the place but i dont know how to do it. is there a specific file type thats necessary? (divx or avi or mkv)

It's a little tricky. If you have a specific video you want to show up for a specific song, put the video in the same folder as the songfile. Open Stepmania, then go to the song editor and open up the song on any difficulty. Find where on the stepchart you want the video to start playing, and press "B" on your keypad. Select options (Such as if you want it to fade in, etc.) then select the video and press enter. It should list it on the stepchart now and go ahead and save. If you just place the video in the folder, I believe it'll start playing on the first beat which can be bad especially if you want the music to be synced up with what's going on in the video.

However if it's just a random video, put it in the random movies folder and turn random movies on. If the movie isn't playing and you have it set to play, it could be that you don't have the right codec installed.

thk u, the file couldnt read DivX so i tried avi and it worked, thx again
