Re: Harry Potter 5
Anyone who gave this bad rep because it didn't follow the book really needs to just stop complaining.
If you were to ask someone who had only seen the movie and someone who had only read the book what the five most important things that happen in each version of this, they'd be the same five things. The means by which they demonstrated these five things is practically irrelevant. Just the fact that they both agreed on what they were means the movie was an accurate representation of the book. And as someone who's read the book and now seen the movie, I can attest to the fact that the five most important things in the book were the five most important things in the movie. ps - quidditch is not important |

And ridiculously more expensive to show in the films. And this time, there would be about half an hour more of the movie had they shown all of the Quidditch-related material.
Harry missing tryouts / Ron trying out Practice and showing that Ron sucks The first game The game where Ron doesn't suck Or... just write around the entire thing and assume Umbridge didn't allow it. |

Re: Harry Potter 5
Just got back from it. I read books 1-4, and watched their respective movies. I thought all the movies did a decent job at getting the important parts across. I expected the 5th to be unique in the fact that I haven't read the book to compare it to. Watching it, I felt that it was a good setup book for whatever is to come next. I thought it hit some good major points that were probably the same in the book, as squeek mentioned.
A few complaints though: I wish they would have gone more in-depth concerning the prophecy, and why exactly Voldemort wants it. I'm sure the book does a much better job of this, and I will look into it. I don't really know what else to complain about. I thought the whole "tricking umbridge into the forest" was quite cheesy and was a terribly unbelievable idea, but that's probably more of a book content issue than a movie adaptation. Personally, this was my favorite out of all 5 books or movies; I can not wait for the next one. Fortunately, this has spurred me to go and pick up a copy of the 6th book. |

Re: Harry Potter 5
I felt this movie should have been 3 hours long because the book is 700 to 800 pages long. They barely even covered the dementor attack and then, a few minutes later, he's in Hogwarts. They hardly covered 12 Grimmauld Place.
Almost all of Ginny's part in the book was cut. Same with most other characters. Overall, the movie was way too short. It didn't even scratch the surface on most plots and subplots. Too short of a movie for such a long book. But stll, as a Harry Potter fan, it satisfied me until Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. |
