Re: Current state of MP, and thoughts to revive it.
I still play MP every once in a while especially just for warming up. I see lag being the issue for people not playing MP most of the time though when I ask if they want to MP with me :/

Re: Current state of MP, and thoughts to revive it.
I only play when I want to have fun competing against others. It's usually an on and off thing for me, since most people in MP are intimidated to compete against someone with a highly inflated MP level of 22 lmfao.
As Byron mentioned, I also think it is a good idea to have more than 2 people compete against each other since it would a) be more interesting, b) be more fun/competitive. Tournaments (especially one play tournaments) can also take advantage of MP if the host observes the competitors as they compete at the same time. |

A host in said tournaments would be MANDATORY
Edit: Or a few match mods for said tourneys

Re: Current state of MP, and thoughts to revive it.
Some thoughts:
I think in general a lot of rhythm games are inherently single-player biased. If people want to improve, it tends to come from practice by yourself. - You have greater song selection freedom in single player - You can restart on demand - The incentive for multiplayer competition (as of right now) is negligible because of the way rhythm game bragboard-ing/posting scores operates - You don't really have anything to gain from mp; playing mp doesn't help you play better or learn something Multiplayer popularity isn't really helped by improving scoring mechanics; encouraging multiplayer has to stem from a willingness to use the features that multiplayer has to offer, and FFR's is derp'd - ily's suggestion for more than just 1:1 competition I wholeheartedly agree with, both FFA and team matches. The more the merrier! - MP tourneys are generally a much more interesting form of competition and I agree with the competitive uses of MP. - The whole concept of MP level seems kind of silly to me and a poor way of judging skill; should be removed imo - I think GH/RB are among the few series that have pushed a fun way to play multiplayer rhythm games. I had this silly idea a while back (and mainly for stepmania), but if FFR somehow made mp-exclusive couples/tag charts I think that'd be a pretty cool reason to go check multiplayer out at least Although as OHN pointed out, FFR's community is indeed rather small and may not warrant the development of mp in general. I don't really want to believe it but it's true. For rhythm games like FFR, multiplayer and spectating aren't really entertaining factors.

Re: Current state of MP, and thoughts to revive it.
Would there be interest in:
a) making games with more than 2 players? b) creating some kind of tournament system? c) producing a new ranking system that actually makes sense and that would allow for more than 2 players? d) creating a matchmaking system that automatically picks opponents near your skill level to play against? e) something else? |

Re: Current state of MP, and thoughts to revive it.
Mp is the only reason I stuck with ffr for so long. The leveling systrm made me strive for something that would show others just by seeing my name how good of a player I was. Being able to talk to opponents also made playing fun. The competitive aspect was my drive. Not to mention people more often than not picked songs I normally wouldn't even bother playing which was awesome. This is the reason I like smo because I'm not always choosing what to play.

Re: Current state of MP, and thoughts to revive it.
Well , Multi-Player does need to get more noticeable , isn't the fact that no one wants to play it... It has not really been updated nor improved any at all
New ranking system would be nice Maybe advertise on the front page of ffr to promote Multi-player Fix a few flaws in Multi-player ( glitches and what not) I think another issues with Multi-player is that some people can't actually play MP due to lagging possibly... Since you are having more then 1 person in a room at a time. But you can't really fix lag , it will always happen but I am sure you could tweak a few things in the system but you should be fine as long you are using flash adobe player standalone.

Re: Current state of MP, and thoughts to revive it.
I somewhat agree with the people here, but I'd suggest making multiplayer less conspicuous first of all.
You can try putting in a multi/singleplayer selection screen, so more people will be aware that it even exists. This also influences people to play more MP. It is also imperative to create an option to play SP games while in a MP room. Try making it so that playing in the MP lobby is almost the same as playing in SP, so more people play in the lobby. Making a full screen MP option can be a good step in doing so. You can also try putting an FFR demo on sites like kongregate again. Those sites have good communities - lots of people will play MP. Have kongregate give you some medals for achievements in the game, and it'll be popular. |

Re: Current state of MP, and thoughts to revive it.
i think psychoangel mentioned a MP tourney in a thread awhile back, and i would love to play in one. Maybe an " FFR Official Multi-Player Tournament 1 " is in the works for the future?

Re: Current state of MP, and thoughts to revive it.
Good times indeed ;__;
Also IMO, I think profile chat ruined MP activity XD Think about it, when FFR was down, pretty much everything was not working and MP was one of the things that remain unfixed for a while and profile chat was like the next best thing to go chat with other FFR members and once Velocity updated the code and added more features to profile chat, it then became the new "chat room" and MP was abandoned even after it was fixed. R.I.P XD
