Default Re: Home gyms

Well I'll try this one again.

Looking to build a complete home gym for my new house for under 2k.

Looking at this rack right now: http://www.roguecanada.ca/sml-2-rogu...te-squat-stand

Bar: http://www.roguefitness.com/the-rogue-bar-2-0

Will probably pick up the rogue bench, a pair of 45 bumpers and then just a bunch of cheap plates. A few accessories if I can add them on without too much cost.

I herniated my disk a few weeks ago and it's healing up really really nicely but squats and DLs are off my menu for the foreseeable future so I kind of want to pick up a pad too for hip thrusts (to combine with lunges).

Comprehensive list of my home gym equipment. Much of it is from Rogue Fitness.

One could certainly replicate my entire setup for a lot less money, but I really like Rogue's equipment, and their shipping speed/customer service is second to none.

Hope this helps someone.

Gym platform:

Most online tutorials are pretty similar when it comes to the platform:

I got some boards, screwed them together, and lined the sides on top with rubber. My boards are 3/4" thick. Two layers of boards on the bottom, and then rubber + a central wooden slab on top. All in all, the platform is 2.25" tall.

For the rubber, I used the universally-recommended stall mats:

Rubber Mat, black, 4 ft x 6 ft
http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/pro...ck-4-ft-x-6-ft

To cut them, I used a white marker, a long metal ruler, and an X-Acto knife. I'm also paranoid so I used some cut-resistant gloves for protection.

Main Rack Equipment

Rogue RM-390F power rack
http://www.roguefitness.com/rogue-rm...nster-rack-2-0

Rogue Flat Utility Bench 2.0
http://www.roguefitness.com/rogue-flat-utility-bench

Rack Extras

Rogue Monster Lite Safety Strap System (mine was version 1.0 though, removable pin model. These straps are a lot quieter than the straight metal pin/pipe safeties that come with the rack)
http://www.roguefitness.com/monster-...ety-system-2-0

Rogue Monster Lite Matador (dip bar attachment)
http://www.roguefitness.com/rogue-monster-lite-matador

Rogue Monster Lite J-Cups (extra pair for convenience. I wrap my cups in duct tape to make them quieter)

Bars / Bar Accessories

CAP Barbell Olympic Bar, 2-Inch, 1000-Pound Capacity, 7-Feet
http://www.amazon.com/CAP-Barbell-Ol.../dp/B001K4OPY2

Black Widow TG Rackable Hex Bar (I prefer using this to doing regular barbell shrugs)
http://www.blackwidowtg.com/product_...x-rackable.htm

Olympic EZ-Curl Bar
I don't have a link for this because I bought it in person at a sporting goods place -- but it's just a cheap 15-lb EZ-Curl bar that will fit my Olympic plates.

Rogue HG Collars
http://www.roguefitness.com/rogue-hg-collars

Weight Plates / Accessories

Rogue Echo Bumper Plate Set (160 lb set + another pair of 10's and 45's)
http://www.roguefitness.com/rogue-echo-bumper-plates

Champion Barbell Olympic Grip Plate (one set of 2.5 lbs, one set of 5 lbs. I lined the inner openings with duct tape because they're really loud and annoying when you slide them on/off the bar)
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001FQLY80

McMaster Steel USS Flat Washer (I bought 6 packs. These washers have a two-inch opening that can fit Olympic bars. Each washer is 0.625 lbs so two of them together function as a cheap 1.25 lb fractional plate. As much as I love Rogue, I found the prices of their fractional plates insane, so I passed on those. The entire order, including shipping, cost <$12 for me)

Rogue Vertical Plate Tree 2.0 (can hold all my weight plates)
http://www.roguefitness.com/rogue-ve...plate-tree-2-0

Stretching / Warm-Up Accessories

Foam Roller (OPTP - Black AXIS Firm Foam Roller, Round 36" x 6")
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00..._detailpages00

Serious Steel Resistance Bands (I have orange, blue, green -- mostly so I can stretch out my fucked up shoulders and get some assistance with dips/pullups)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0064DPLMY

Wooden Gym Rings + Straps (I use these for bodyweight face pulls, attached to the upper-rear support beam on the power rack)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LE9HFNQ

Weightlifting Shoes

Nike Romaleos (Varsity Red/Metallic Gold/Black)
http://www.eastbay.com/product/model...s#sku-76927670

Miscellaneous Equipment

CFF Thug Mats (I bought two, to help make deadlifts a little quieter. Turns out they don't help that much for my purposes, but you might want to check out this video to get an idea for what they do)
https://christiansfitnessfactory.com...-flooring.html

Rogue Mini Deadlift Bar Jack
http://www.roguefitness.com/mini-deadlift-bar-jack

Valeo VA2413RE Dual Ab Wheel - Black/Red
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007IS74G

Costs:

All costs below include shipping. Everything's rounded off for simplicity.

Cost of everything for the gym platform: $300 (including tools)
Cost of everything from Amazon: $300
Cost of everything from Rogue Fitness: $2200
Cost of everything else (CFF, McMaster, Eastbay, TG, etc): $500

Total: $3300

Stuff I don't have yet that I'm considering in the future:

-The flat bench is great, but sometimes I wonder if I should swap it out for an adjustable/incline bench.
-I don't own any dumbbells. But if I were to buy any, I'd get the PowerBlocks or the IronMasters. Both are adjustable dumbbell sets.

I'm too poor to afford a home gym. I just use my membership at my local gym. :T

Other than planet fitness, most home gyms pay for themselves pretty quickly though.

The home gym I'm planning to use will be used by me and my fiancee and in 2 years the cost of it will already be cheaper than 2 years of gym membership.
