Arch0wl for re-admin 2013 (serious)
Before you read even another word of what I'm writing here, make note of this:
- This is not a request for permanent adminship. This is a request for a 20-day trial adminship where I perform several functions I've wanted to do for a while without having to constantly pester the existing admins with back-and-forth. If you like the work I've done in that period, you can keep me as an admin. Otherwise, de-admin me and return to normal. That said. I used to be an administrator of FFR so I am familiar with the forum software. The forum is in need of several reorganizations, among them: * Reorganization of sticky threads * Forums and subforum relabeling * Forum sequence shuffling according to use * Creation of new forums (I know what software you're using, this is not a hassle at all) * Consulting with regular posters * Updating titles * Giving users distinctions for activities that better represent their status in the community etc. The primary concern with admin rights is abuse of power, which I am keenly aware of. While my admin tenure was nearly a decade ago (I was 15-16 as an admin; I turn 25 in a week), I never made deletions of forums and always consulted with higher-ups (Synthlight) if I felt a major thread or even a forum needed to be deleted. This was never that necessary, though, because I respected FFR's policy of wanting to keep a historical record/archive. Further, given that so much of my history is on this forum, it's an incentive for me to preserve it -- not remove it. So, you can be certain that any admin worries you may have about unnecessary deletions of content should be pushed aside. That won't happen. I am requesting adminship for purely functional purposes. If you have any concerns in light of what I've written, I'll be happy to answer them here. Respectfully, Arch |

Can't every single one of those tasks be done by just sending a forum PM to an existing forum admin with your suggestions for how you'd change them?

If you were made an admin, what would be your priorities during that hypothetical 20 days trial?

Re: Arch0wl for re-admin 2013 (serious)
Sounds interesting. Could you give a short explanation of how it would be after the changes ? (How would you reorganize stuff, what would you add to user titles, etc.)

I vote Arch0wl for Admin. It's FFR Change you can believe in!

Re: Arch0wl for re-admin 2013 (serious)
@Opkiller
Right, so, one of the things I hate about the forums right now is how the frequency of use is unrelated to where the actual forum is located. The Garbage Bin (to use an example) requires scrolling all the way to the bottom of the page every time. I want to re-order the forums according to frequency of use so that more used forums require less scrolling. Another irritating thing is that simfile creation is spread out throughout several isolated subforums. I want to create a simfile creation section of the main page specifically for these forums. User titles right now are more workplace-like. "Simfile Creator" for example is universally applied. stargroup, to give an example, has the same simfile title as anyone else. He deserves a higher level of distinction -- maybe "Simfile Expert", but I'd have to swish these titles around in my brain for a bit. There are also no user titles for people who are exceptionally good at the game, even though there should be. |

Makes sense, well I would agree to that. And a 20 days trial is a good idea to see how you would affect the community.

Re: Arch0wl for re-admin 2013 (serious)
I say yes to Arch being given powers for 20 days. After that and based off of whatever benefits he provides the forums with, another re-vote should be done. That's my two cents.

I have no problem with him being an admin, he was pretty good at it in the a0.com days

Arch if you rework the homepage, make it more user friendly and add R^3 onto the homepage where players can conveniently get to it, I'd vote for you in a heartbeat.
Since... no other admins are doing it... probably ever...

Re: Arch0wl for re-admin 2013 (serious)
Reworking the homepage is beyond my level of expertise. That said, if I was given homepage update abilities (i.e. I could post announcements) I could organize a few fun events. That's beyond the scope of what I'm asking for, though.

Re: Arch0wl for re-admin 2013 (serious)
This just requires some css and/or HTML knowledge, it's not that hard to implement but the only admins on this site that I see active are bmah and arcnmx

Re: Arch0wl for re-admin 2013 (serious)
if you guys wanted a new homepage you could've asked. Not sure what shape the code is in, but I'm sure there a few individuals here on the forums that could do it.
I am one of them. but oh yeah, +1 for arch's 20 day trial (and then some)

Re: Arch0wl for re-admin 2013 (serious)
I'm cool with anyone doing it, as long as it gets done. I'm sorry for kinda being a dick about this but I mean, it kinda needs to get done :P

Re: Arch0wl for re-admin 2013 (serious)
I agree, it does need to be done. But that's up to administration if they either want to do it, or give someone the permission to do so.
But that's a different topic of discussion and I don't wanna shit on Arch's thread...again.
