Gas Prices
Most of us know these gas price websites (gaspricewatch.com or gasbuddy.com). With gas prices inching towards a national average US$4 by Memorial Day or even US$5 during the summer, do you really change your driving habits when this happens, or is it still business as usual? Do you look for cheaper gas or pull over when it's convenient? Is there a price per gallon that will make you drive less?

----- I used to just go joy ridding or go to Galveston for no reason. Now I can't. If I go somewhere, it best be something important and well planned ahead. I buy the cheap gas so maybe $4 per gallon. After that, I might have to plan on taking online college courses and work a little closer. I might go as far as buying a hybrid. I might pull out the old diesel truck and just start dumping cooking oil into it at this rate.

Re: Gas Prices
The first full tank of gas I ever bought was 26$, and this was right before the first spike in gas prices back in... jeez... '06? When it was over 4$ then.

Re: Gas Prices
Apparently I live in the highest cost area in the country in terms of gas prices at the moment. Last night I saw the cheap shit at $4.07 a gallon. Putting $30 in and not even getting half a tank from it is ridiculous.
I won't likely change my driving habits much, if at all. Higher prices doesn't really put a dent in my wallet too hard, and if I need to save gas, I've got a Geo Metro and a motorcycle that I could use, 50mpg and 45mpg respectively. |

You think it's bad now, just wait a few months or maybe a year tops.

Re: Gas Prices
I pretty much only go to grocery store gas stations now because I have bonus cards and you get a couple cents off. About a month ago, average where I lived was roughly $3.09 and I got gas at Safeway, joined their bonus club that second and I got my gas for under $3 [I think $2.97 to be exact].
The day that gas prices in my area jumped, Frankie called me from work and said that by the end of the day the prices were going to jump 50 cents by the end of the night. I had to take my mom's truck, go pick up my van from Walmart where Frankie was working, filled up both tanks at $3.09 [thank you Shell for being cheapest around, otherwise it would have been $3.20] and it was just shy of $100 to fill both from a quarter tank each. Later that night, I saw the prices, the same Shell went to roughly $3.30, the other gas stations down the street from it went from $3.20 to $3.77. We've had to cancel trips to see family members, we don't drive anymore and when we do, we carpool with friends. Having a 24 gallon tank and filling it up puts a hole in our bank account really bad. EDIT: Oh yea, they're saying that by the end of summer it's guaranteed to be above $4 a gallon as the national average and pretty close to $5. Start saving.

Re: Gas Prices
Everyone might think this sounds crazy but I'm guessing that gas prices will be up to 10 dollars or even higher at some point. something like $300 a barrel.

Re: Gas Prices
I don't drive because I live in NYC and use public transit. Having a car here is a huge liability. I pay $104/month and I can go anywhere as much as I'd like.

Re: Gas Prices
someone said that somewhere obama was quoted saying he hopes gas prices keep rising so people have to start buying electric cars. I have no idea if this is legit info, if so damn. I think eventually prices will get bad enough even damn tree huggers will want to drill in the U.S. for oil. If not, I think it'll ruin a decent ammount of the economy that the gov't will step in and do something.

Re: Gas Prices
This won't bother me much for local driving but it will cut down on my drives up to my hometown. I'll probably only head there once every couple months instead of twice a month

Re: Gas Prices
Gas around here is about $3.75 I have to put in around $85 to fill my tank since I drive a Dodge Ram. Luckily I take 4 online classes, and I only have to go to the campus once a week. Yet, it's still hard to maintain my gas.

Re: Gas Prices
The increase in gas prices doesn't bother me. I still have places I need to go everyday, and crying about the spike isn't going to get my errands done. My Honda does fine on gas regardless...

Re: Gas Prices
Freshman aren't allowed to have cars on campus so I never have to drive, there is a college shuttle that runs at set times that I can take. And I pay for a bus whenever I go home from my college.
I hate driving anyway |

Re: Gas Prices
Dodge Neon, nice car ;]
I drive a Ford Freestar [mini-van]. To fully fill it from empty, it was $55-$70 before the spike. I haven't needed to get gas since the day it did spike since I filled it that day. We'll see how much it is when I go to fill it next >.> it's not bad on gas but it's such a large tank. Lasts a while but kills your wallet when you go to fill it.
