I do it most of the time, but the problem about it is, if you are making a "pack" with BG and avatar, you have to make an avatar exactly the size of the actual, or else the whole BG will misfit anyway.

Well because of the wolf it would look funky to have the whole bottom a different color

1. putting images down there is nonsense because no one will see them 2. putting patterns or designs down there is better, but it can make the file size for a bg HUGE, meaning it won't fit the website's criteria of "small ass file size" (725kb or some bullshit.) aaaaaaaaaand 3. black is easy, that's why people do it, it's easy to rip something/brush it, mask it and then blend it with black... BAM insta-bg |

Depends what you use to make it-- in Fireworks when I make background with vector objects like rectangles and that, and manually create textures that I would normally get from an actual image, the file size is soooo small in comparison. Pixels are fat fools!!!

Re: Looking for new profile, 75k credits
corroded's uses default blend options for text which looks horrible (bevel&emboss and texture/pattern, absolutely not). And font choice is poor. Colour scheme isn't really fitting when you're going for a universe, spatial theme.
duddychuck's is pretty solid. I don't like the font choice or your choice to stroke the text. BG is obviously stretched so applying gaussian blur or something might help tone it down. I don't get what a wolf has to do with the theme he specified, lol. Colour scheme is okay but could use more tints/shades of purple since it's pretty much solid blue and he requested to have a bit more colour to it. Also personal pet peeve but I absolutely hate scanlines. Just my two cents
