Apophysis fractals of sp1nzoK
Seen couple of threads with some fractal-work, it's always nice to see what people pull off with programs like Apophysis so here's a fractal of mine in smaller size.
My latest thing here (it's a collaboration of fractals but I uploaded them seperate to devart): http://sp1nzok.deviantart.com/gallery/ for more Thanks for looking in advance. Last edited by sp1nzoK; 11-19-2007 at 02:04 PM.. |

So wait-- that's not with photoshop?

Re: Apophysis fractal by me
Oh haven't checked in here for a while.
Thanks for the comments everyone, I appreciate that. @ Nightfirecat: I use photoshop for afterwork, but I rarely do more than add my name / frames or get some pixelated stuff off from the fractal. My latest 4 are bit more photoshop fool-around, Moloch's Orb is only altered via color balance but the 3 other pictures "going with it" that are blue, yellow, green themed are all taken from moloch's orbs fractal and played around with. Effects, blending layers, smudging and maybe other stuff. @ DC_Cypher: Yeah everything on deviantart is made by me, thanks for the compliment. I've seen some of your photoshop stuff, lot better than what I can do with it atm |

Crazy...I'm just getting into using fractals.
EDIT: I lol'd at how it came out as a face: |

Re: Apophysis fractal by me
How do you get rid of the pixel stuff anyways?

Re: Apophysis fractal by me
Lowering gamma is good first step, also lowering gamma brings the actual forms out more clearly, more gamma = more "haze". Even with lowest gamma (1) you can get pixelated stuff but usually it's beyond the edges of the actual thing so you can remove them in photoshop. Hope this helped
Oh and rendering options effect alot to the outcome, find some tutorial regarding those and it could also reduce pixelation. |

Re: Apophysis fractal by me
When I render I make sure the quality is at least 2000, oversample 2, and render it at such a size so that the final image I want is half as big, so I can shrink it in half to hide the dots that remain.
Mental reflection is a really cool piece. Is it a curl fractal?

Re: Apophysis fractal by me
The main transform has some curl and rectangle along with linear, it has most weight in the piece so it shows most but it has other stuff added via smaller weight transforms (not that good fractals need more than 2 but if I want more complicated forms I tend to use like 6+ even, it makes fractals lot harder to color beyond "one color" though and it is hard to balance the weights so you get everything visible in correct manner).
Nice point on the quality aperson. Here's oversample explained for those interested (you can search for the stuff yourself too): Quote:

Re: Apophysis fractal by me
Yeah, on the issue of quality, apophysis becomes a time consuming beast really quickly. When I do my large, poster quality renders (6000x4000 or higher, oversample 2), it takes apophysis around 25 to 40 hours to render, but the payoff is definitely worth it.
Apophysis essentially works by taking a single dot and then applying the transforms you've given with a random seed to plot the next dot on the image, and then so on. By upping Quality on the render menu you up the number of dots it renders before it completes the image. By upping the size of your image you lower the size of the dots, and trust me it takes a lot of those dots. For me, Apophysis renders around a billion dots a second on most images. That means on the poster versions it renders around 144,000,000,000,000 dots on a 40 hour render, that's 144 trillion of those dots. Know your dots, they're cool and powerful Also, I strongly agree about applying more transforms. I have trouble managing my image when I get up past 4 or 5, but I definitely love adding 3rd and 4th transforms to a julia/julian group to rip apart and vary a really hypersymmetric family. I've found that if I'm careful and keep every individual transform's color range reasonably thin, I can maintain color control around 5 transforms, but beyond there it's just messy.
