Re: anyone else feel guilty playing four finger
Index is using your index fingers, you kinda peck the keys.

Re: anyone else feel guilty playing four finger
Four finger sucks :P You should feel guilty because it is basically double setup which IS cheating. xD
Real mans use one hand. Real mans are in danger of instinction. We need to save them. One hand FTW

Re: anyone else feel guilty playing four finger
oh, well in that case, i don't index. My setup is right-handed:
index finger - left key middle finger - up and down key ring finger - right key I think playing with one hand provides such a great challenge, and it feels good to be able to play songs with 16th streams and your nailing large combos, that's an accomplishment. But then again, i admire watching large songs (dragonforce, emerald sword, etc) where there's a large stream and fast speed, that's where two handed comes in (which i haven't mastered yet). But i'm content with 1-hand. |

Re: anyone else feel guilty playing four finger
I usually play 4-finger, since my keyboard is so weird that it can't handle me pushing more than four keys when they're not arrow keys, so I can only do hard songs that way, but I can PA easy songs, especially ones with lots of jumps, slightly better with spread. I don't feel guilty for playing this way, I'm usually against playing in a way where I don't feel I can do my best, except for some occasional fun.

Re: anyone else feel guilty playing four finger
one hand = carpal tunnel syndrome at one point or another.
index = more imitating DDR spread = TRUE ffr playing i myself play index, but spread is how FFR is made to be played basically, as all the new songs that have been coming in lately, and probably all future ones are meant for the skilled spread player. IF you play one handed or index i recommend you to learn spread at one point or another to keep up. or be like me and only play FFR once in a while, go outside and have fun and stay in touch with the forums and the FFR Profile commenting system. works for me but yeah, spread owns ffr. |

index/one hand sux at the point of speed anyway.
yea they're okay for fun, I myself sometimes do them. but not being able to play 4 fingers is just a disability. Last edited by jimerax; 11-28-2006 at 06:03 AM.. |

Re: anyone else feel guilty playing four finger
Playing with one hand is not all that bad. I play as hard as I can and my hand get somewhat tired after 10 games... no pain.

Re: anyone else feel guilty playing four finger
You will never get carpel tunnel if you start at the easier ones and work your way up. and once you get to the hardest ones, you could play without pain.

Eh, it's my perspective that you can get good with enough practice no matter the style, although I think the general consensus among experts is that the 4-finger style is best. If I'm not mistaken, I believe Tibs plays with just one finger, and there might have been at least one example of someone who posted a score obtained with his penis.

AAA'ing EHHS or Silence with anything besides spread is essentially impossible. You can be good for your style, sure...but overall, I don't really think you can get "good" with one finger the way you can with spread.

Re: anyone else feel guilty playing four finger
The only way I'd say four fingers is unfair is if each finger came from a different person. That's just creepy if you think about it.

Nah. It'd just be the KB version of party mode (playing with more than one person on a single pad).

Re: anyone else feel guilty playing four finger
that's actually fun, if you've tried it. I did that in class the other day, me and some people were just messing around on stepmania that i downloaded on my flash drive and we'd each hold one key. They were bad though, our highest combo ended up to be in the lower 90s, we hit 101 one time though. ha, but 3 finger - one hand is for me. i'm learning the spread though, so i can be more accurate on Excited Hyper Speed Star and other things like that.

Re: anyone else feel guilty playing four finger
I used to play one handed, but switched to spread because I couldn't do any of the harder songs. But for fun, I've FC'd most of the easier songs using a different style- pointer and middle finger of one hand <_<

Re: anyone else feel guilty playing four finger
When I first started playing, I was constantly getting screamed at by all these players because I used 4 fingers. I'm not sure if they played 1 hand or 2 fingers, and they tried to get me to play their way, but I never ended up playing 2 fingers or 1 hand. I didn't care if people thought 4 fingers was cheating either. That had to of gone on for months on end.

Re: anyone else feel guilty playing four finger
Index players tend to be more accurate than spread players initially. After practice, they become the same. (except spread players can do harder songs AND get the accuracy while index players are just fighting for a combo)
