ITT we ask easy riddles/questions that people screw up
By "easy riddles/questions that people screw up" I mean questions that are meant to be answered immediately -- first impulse answers -- such that people will still tend to screw them up.
I have a baseball and a bat totaling $1.10 in cost. The bat costs $1 more than the ball. How much does the ball cost? |

$0.05 (fixed)
ps: Maybe I post something if I remember any riddle. pps: Yeah, this one is tricky for someone hasty. Due to the value, people seem to be "forced" to answer $0.10. Good one, Rubix. Last edited by Shikari; 01-18-2012 at 10:40 AM.. |

You have 2 coins totaling 30 cents in value. One is not a nickel. What are the two coins? |

6÷2(1+2) = a very bad way to write a math problem.
One should aim for precision, not obfuscation or "teehee, win by technicality". This reminds me of people who try to make their opponents quit so they "win by technicality" rather than legitimately beat them at whatever game. It is overly pedantic. |

Re: ITT we ask easy riddles/questions that people screw up
You also do addition and subtraction at the same time. They are essentially the same operations since you are actually adding negative numbers or multiplying its inverses.

Still, the purpose was to obfuscate rather than to elucidate.
It is intended to "trick" people by way of technicality. Whereas if you're actually using math for anything worthwhile you'd better be as clear as possible. If there's any doubt as to clarity, use parentheses. I still hold it is a very bad way to write a math problem. |

Interesting. Here in australia in the early 90's we were taught BOMDAS or BODMAS (essentially the same thing)
An old one I like is this... A A A A ? A A A A A A What is the missing letter? Edit: Rob, the fifth is Senegal ;D
