Nah there's plenty of people that know what I've been doing the past 10 months and maybe to some it's pathetic because FFR died and I just tried to keep it alive with DF. Now as I said earlier though we were way more relaxed on judging on DF because it was more about the community and just fun stuff to play. We started getting more strict once we got a good bit of files in game but still not as much. There's over 100 files on there right now. Are they perfect nah but it also helped new stepartists learn and grow. The community got to tell them what they liked/disliked about the charts it was nice. I'm not trying to say there should be no standard that it should just be about fun I don't want you guys to think I'm saying that. I just don't want to see a file that's like super fun and people would enjoy get denied because of a minor error or two. Like my PR on The final hour I didn't PR it all the way through and as I said it was my 3rd chart and 1st time attempting to PR runs but I wanted to make sure patterns didn't end up stupid because of some of the technical things. So I did it how I felt it was most enjoyable. |

If you are known as a good judge/reviewer, that skill should be counted for sure (even if you don't have files or have only a few files in the game).

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
Oh and Kory there were times I would download peoples charts and review them but I went unnoticed because I wasn't known. Kinda like how my 1st post here went ignored. People don't really notice me and it amazes me how many people didn't know of DF cause people posted it all over including on KBO. Anyone is welcome to go check it out and see what we've been doing there it's not like it's exclusive or anything. Altho some things are hidden if you aren't a registered user. www.dragonsfury.forumotion.net is the forums. Nothing was perfect there either but we were just having a good time doing what we were doing lol. Stepwars was a ton of fun but the submissions started to slow. But I expected that with people going back to school and such.

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
An example of a review I did on DF. This one was when it 1st started and I was nervous as hell about writing them lol.
"Kero Kero () (C) You're getting really close with this file but it feels like you're trying to force it to be more difficult. The biggest issue is you're continuing the runs when the song has cooled down. After the one jumpstream section you continue the run when the music has softend up then towards the end again you put in another run which just feels out of place with the sound of the music. But don't give up you really aren't far off I enjoy the rest of the chart just play around with those sections a little more." In my reviews I always try to add encouragement in them it helps motivate people to keep trying and improve. |

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
You could be a little more specific. Maybe mention the specific measures/time in the song. Also give suggestions to what can be used in place of the runs.
Encouragement is good, but people need to know why a part needs to be changed, and without specifics it gets confusing |

big boss isn't that good it's really straight forward
vote4nixon's oriental inspiration is an example of an interesting file but he didn't give it to anyone but me I think

STOP NINJA'ING ME YOU ****S
entirely @ Kory AGAIN When we judged, we were trying to give the gist of basic structure in files, rather than nailing them in specific sections (otherwise, it'd get quite tedious). Because of this, people started to produce slightly better charts in term of structure. I figured, going into SM to nail someone who is just starting on technical errors would be a bit nuts because they wouldn't know how to fix them. Step by step process. |

I know but we had it a bit different over there. Carlos was the one that got real technical and into detail with people had I needed to I could have but I was the "fun factor" one out of the group lol. So I just pointed out really big things with charts that were holding it back while they got more into the technical stuff. Plus since we were so close knit most of the time we discussed peoples charts in chat because it was just easier that way. |

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
Well what I'm getting at, you about runs. That's very generic. What does you mean by runs? I've heard the term used to describe a ton of different patterns. Say "Oh after measureXX you continue the use of this pattern. Maybe try this instead?"
Of course its gonna vary file to file, but most people who make files have a lot of issues seeing errors in their own work. They need more specific judgment. |

But main point. DF is where a whole lot of us either got started with stepping, or got that extra boost of encouragement towards stepping in general. Creating a chart to a song we enjoyed and making that chart not only accurate, but fun as well. While sacrifice of technicality of PR and whatnot was made, it helped us create something we could be proud of. Now I don't know if everyone else on DF can agree, but that's how I felt. Now that FFR's back, I'm going to try to get my name out. I've already sent in one file to this batch so I'll leave it to the judges to determine whether or not I've come as far as I've hoped. |

In this case it wasn't necessary because he had submitted the chart once before and it was something that was more specifically pointed out previously but he never changed it. It was just "our way" of doing things in general. People knew what we meant cause our system was a bit more simple and if it was needed we would explain in more detail but again that generally happened in chat because both AJ and I spent a tremendous amount of time online so we were able to work with people one on one a lot to help them improve. |

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
Also, you don't necessarily need to have created an amazing amount of files to get anywhere. My very first 6-key submission to KBO (5th chart overall) got unanimously accepted (was extremely shocked to see this once I had a judging title, haha). Certain people have extreme potential just by looking at files (like I did at Kommisar's 6-key files). There's quite a few people sitting on DF who have a fair shot of getting files in with a bit of guidance and help. With the right help, you can make a person who struggles with rhythms and can't accent properly, to a person who is trying more advanced FFR techniques, like color gimmicks and extreme bursts (iironiic comes to mind from DF). Not to say that he's perfect, but he reminds me of my old self when I was first starting drum n' bass charts. I want to be the person to move him out of just that genre, and I want to be the person to help himself obtain his own unique style, like WC :') did for me on 4-key. It took a while, but I broke past the point of having to ask him a question every minute about how something should be done, when in reality, it was entirely up to me. (Also, bmah helped me a lot when I was first starting, thanks for Tageri ).
The point I'm trying to make to all the new judges basically - don't discourage the newer artists. Try to make them better, because if you do improve them, you've added a good stepartist who has a different take from you into the community. That, is a big plus. Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
Alright. As long as the person knew I guess it's fine.
I feel like we should close this batch, simply because we have to judge the previous batch as well, and figure out our judging system in general |

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
I should probably mention that these notes were also made in a forum viewable by anyone. Carlos would get really deep into detail with measures, offsets, etc so when I would go to write my review there was no need to repeat things that were already said. Carlos always beat me to em <3 We each just put in a bit of something into the judging from different angles. |
