Curious to see what stargrorp thinks of loli v2 (hvy), the solos a lot more understated and everythings more consistent with the nonlayered style of id :3 Also I'll be posting my reviews soon, packs daunting as hell but reeeally terrific. Greatly appreciate all the work and love that went into it.

will review more

Abandon - could have stepped the vocals as arrows instead of mines in the empty middle part, still pretty fun 7/10

Am I A Psycho - another rap MA file from rog 8/10

Amber Shores - OH BOY THIS SONG AGAIN
you could have varied the 32nds instead of copious amounts of ascending and descending rolls which doesn't really capture the ~true~ feel of the song but still balls hard to score on, nice job either way 6/10

Apple Butter - yea your stepping style rocked this song 9/10

At Dawn - pretty simple and fun, nothing to really note 7/10

Avril 14th - same review for above 7/10

Beyond Abilities - OH BOY THIS SO-
i like this better than baq's and joe d's collab on this, still has that baq syndrome in those solos but only a little less. fun stuff 7/10

Bird Sprite -Awakening of Light- - really fluent jump/handstreamish file, very fun on rates. 8/10

Black Lair - this was actually very well executed, definitely worth a replay. excellent job 9/10

Black Light Machine - worth every minute, especially for a marathon file from stargroup. outstanding stepchart for an extravagent song. 10/10

Bonfire - not too bad to play. the mines could have accented the song better and you didn't layer some of the kicks in the beginning. 6/10

Boulafacet - great build up to the climax at the ending, very cool to play through. 8/10

Canary Part III - very simple on the pitch relevancy in the beginning and breakcore parts were stepped old-school esque. not too shabby of a file 7/10

Chain Dumbin - not sure what to say about it, pretty fun and rough to MA the 32nd patterns. 7/10

Default Re: FFR Community Pack 4 Released!

I guess I'll review what I've played so far. A lot of these reviews are recall from what I've played in smo the past two days, so forgive me if they're vague, or don't make sense lmao
* = I'll 'probably' be playing again
** = I'll 'definitely' be playing again

(Valor) Abandon - This seemed to drag on a bit... Like, the easy parts were really long, and then the harder part came, and im p sure i died from a mine or two

*(rog) Am I A Psycho - Cool file, nice job with the vocals, and I liked the song choice

(mi40) Amber Shores - yeah dude

*(moches) Apple Butter - Nice little jazzy file, very enjoyable

(Valor) Avril 14th - I liked the song, and the nice easy file went well with it

(mi40) Beyond Abilities - I had an image in my head of what to expect when I heard the preview, and I pretty much got that. Good job.

(Gundam-Dude) Bird Sprite -Awakening of Light- - When I first played this, it's like the patterns just flowed out of my fingers, it felt natural. It seems simple enough to have put together, but you did very well to make it just... flow

(CosmoVibe) Black Light Machine - stargroup made us play in smo lol. Honestly, this really dragged on... I mean, it was very well stepped, don't get me wrong, but I probably would have enjoyed it more if you started when the song kicked up after the vocals. Very good job with the file, just not my cup of tea. ps this aint no xmod file lmao

*(cedolad) Bonfire - I liked it, and it's Knife Party, so replay value ^

*(moches) Boulafacet - I remember reading a review for this... I think you had sent it to Lurker's pack or something, and he had said that this was the "epic file of the pack". I hadn't heard the song when I read that, and I really didn't know what to expect. When I actually got around to playing it (prerelease I might add), I didn't really get an "epic" feeling from it, but that's not a bad thing, it's just not the word I'd use to describe it. The way you stepped it, though, left me wondering "whyd he stop stepping that part at this point whats going on", but I guess you made up for it with the mines (which added a nice amount of trickiness to this, but not enough to fuck me up so good job.) Overall though, you did a great job capturing the song in your steps.

**(FissionMailed1) Canary Part III - I really enjoyed this file, and I like the song. One little this I just wanna mention... When I sightread this, the part where you had the left-hold notes gradually increase in length blew my mind, for whatever reason. It was small, but I just think it was a nice touch lol

(Detrimentalist) Chain Dumbin - lmao this file. asian woman (o:

**(rog) Dancing Box - Cool song, fun file. Typical rog stuff

(Antronach) Deja Vu - The holds threw me off at first, but I got used to them and playing wound up being a pretty experience nice for me.

(Torrent) Drawcia Soul - I played this on smo, so I couldn't see the cdtitle, but playing the chart had me thinking "this has choof written all over it". Tough file, and it's pretty fun.

**(AlexDest) Dstrukt - Love this song and file. Dl'd prerelease and have played it a lot already. Short and sweet

*(iamme) Fatal Tragedy - See, this has more of an "epic" sound to me, but I think that's just because it's dream theater lol.

*(Kommisar) Final Battle vs. Satan - kommisar file the end

(Torrent) Fucking Paranoid - Played this prerelease. Ehhhhhhhhhh, I've liked your other files in this pack much more

*(moches vs Valor) Guitar Hero - more like techno hero. Nice little file you guys got here

*(mi40) Hajnal2 - As far as the song goes, I like the original Hajnal more, but this isn't bad, and the file was pretty good. Nice challenge for me.

(AlexDest) Hand Throw - Eh I'm not sure how to feel about this one... I might replay it and rereview it later

(eastsideman09 vs rog) Happy Screaming Night Businessman - So this is my first collab ever, and I really like how it came out. I'm definitely down to collab again, rog... Especially if you wanna make an epic xmod file!

(blind vs moches) I Knew You Were Trouble - "Dodgeball" huh? It was simple enough. File was surprisingly nice, but saldkfjas;ldkfj taylor swift sorry

(rog) I Say Drink That Shit - played beginner and sa;lkdfjkjas;ldf ouch

(mi40) Lawn Wake III - Pretty much what I was expecting, which I guess is good

(Gundam-Dude) Leia - Same thing, pretty much what I was expecting when I heard the preview

*(Gameoson) Lewd Violence - motherfuck those mines. I wasn't aware that this was xmod when playing in smo, so I watched on autoplay and the gimmicks were nicely done. The files fun for me until the mines come, but I can just turn them off, so no biggie

(Rumia) lmbo - Pretty song, and the file definitely goes with it, it's just not a file I would expect to be made like ever

(blind) Lost Woods - I like the song for sure, the file is just so bland... but I think that's because of the song itself, because the file goes with it... It just wasn't popping... ya know?

**(Don) Luna's Tower - So when I was reading the playtester notes prerelease, this file was getting lots of love, and deservedly so. It's really fun.

**(IcyWorld) o'er the flood - Holy fuck I love this song. The file is just a tad bit too tough for me to thoroughly enjoy it, but I'm just gonna have to stop being a bitch because this file's awesome

*(IcyWorld) Polis Ruin - Again, nice file, nice song. Lots of good stuff form you, icy

(eastsideman09) Pulse de Chocobo - My file. I really like how this came out. I've been trying to get a lot of different styles of song under my step-charting belt, and this wasn't something I'd done yet. Completing this chart really got me to recognize my own "style" of stepping (aside from xmod gimmick stuff), so I hope to keep moving forward from here.

(Kommisar) Purple Drank - Played this in SSP3, it was way better with the rolls. Not my favorite kommi-kola kid file either, but that's probably just cuz I don't like the song as much as Can't Hide Your Love

*(B3nny vs rog) Red Heat - nice little wubby file u got dere

(Condoct & Detrimentalist) Reon - I played both of these, and I liked detri's more overall. However, sg said something in smo about how combining the strengths of both of these files would have made for an excellent collab, and I agree. Would have been nice to see.

*(00Razor00) Retro City - This file has it's ups and downs for me, but it gets the notch because I like the song.... i might just have a weakness for wubwub

*(Torrent vs rog) Robotomy - Remember how I said Drawica had "choof written all over it"? Yeah, this is that, except on steroids. Fantastic file man.

(Valor) Satori de Pon ! - I don't think you know how many times this was played on smo lol. I don't like it as much as everyone seems to, but I don't dislike it. File goes well with the song, and I just don't enjoy the song a whole lot to keep playing it

**(Kommisar) Sorceress Elise - This was so fun, and I really liked the song as well. Not much else to say...

(Kommisar vs SCL) Still Getting It - I actually had a chart for this sitting in my wip folder, and I was gonna emphasize the same things you guys did, I just never got around to it and wound up deleting it lol. That said, I wasn't really feeling this file honestly.

**(hi19hi19 vs Scintill) The Cataclysm - Cool ass song. This file is great, and you should feel great.

(rog) THE HERO RETURNS HOME - This kicked my ass, especially at the end... My hands kinda gave out lol

(Kil) The Least 100sec - I was honestly expecting better...

(Torrent) Tsugaru - fuck man....

*(Wayward Vagabond) Twirling Star - yeah man, really fun, pretty decent song too

*(Wineandbread) Unfounded Revenge - Smashing Song of Praise - I like the feel of the file, and its symbiosis with the song

(Kommisar) Vivid in Heart - dat ass

(rparty89) Watch Out Pt. 2 VS DJ Yoshitaka - fucking this song again. I liked the FFR Summer 2012 one more... It was shorter, and more fun for me... This was just dragged on

(ferrari) While Tha Rekkid Spinz - I really like this song, I just don't think a replayable file could be made out of it. I mean, you did good with it, I just wasn't feeling it.

(MrTea) Windowlicker - oooowaoooowaoooowaoooowaoooooooooo

(eastsideman09) Wolfgang's 5th Symphony - I don't care if you watch it on autoplay, I just don't want this file to go unnoticed. I slaved over a hot keyboard making these gimmicks lol.

Default Re: FFR Community Pack 4 Released!

ATTENTION! FULL PACK REVIEW! ATTENTION!

most of these reviews will be 99% the same as what I said when I judged, but some will be a bit revised.

(Valor) Abandon - HEAVY: Mines and the jack patterns are far, far, FAR too extreme in some parts, but they’re doable. Freezes also could have been a touch more restrained because some of them look really uncomfortable aesthetically. Otherwise, fun and tricky file.

(rog) Am I A Psycho - First, one note: I screwed up the sync on this when I cut the song. Change the offset to -0.073 and it'll be fine.

HEAVY: One of my favorite files from you, dude. Very laid-back file, but the challenges come in very unexpected places, like the little bursts of color notes here and there and the mini-dodgeball sections. Expertly patterned—rough where the flow of the rap is rough but also smooth as silk when it needs to be. Top-notch all-around.

(mi40) Amber Shores - MEDIUM: Good toned-down version of the Heavy chart, should be fun for most.
HEAVY: I would argue that this file has the potential to be a Stepmania classic. Not only is it essentially technically flawless, it's also patterned incredibly intricately--the file is super hard, but it's also intuitive to the point where even intermediate players will be able to get into the file's groove on their first or second try. There aren't any mines/freezes or interesting theorems; the entire file lives on the merit of the patterns/rhythms, and it absolutely owns. I expect to see this in the scoreboards a ton in the very near future. On top of that, the song is beautiful, the graphics are fantastic, and the entire package as a whole is just so well put-together. Favorite file from you thus far, please please make more.

(moches) Apple Butter - My file.

(Antronach) At Dawn - HEAVY: Interesting rhythms. Biggest issue here is that the long freezes make it hard for you to layer, and as a result a lot of the 16th patterns feel forced/you miss some really huge parts of the song, like a few of the chords (could have used some hands in the middle) and that super-prominent piano roll which you just stepped as one long hold note (not to mention that fact that it’s part of a [1][2][3] chain of holds, which is just flat-out confusing). There should also be some more 64th swing in this, imo, but maybe that was an intentional choice on your part. The minifreezes at the end are inconsistent. Otherwise, fun easy file with some great rhythms.

(Valor) Avril 14th - MEDIUM: Relaxing song and relaxing file with some edgy touches (the mines, which are basically "my baby's first staccato note" mines), should be fun to play even for advanced players

(mi40) Beyond Abilities - HEAVY: Good choice of patterns throughout, and some of the simplifications you made were quite creative. You strike a great balance between challenge and expressiveness that impresses me. Only technical nitpick is that some of the guitar freezes were a tad too long.

(Gundam-Dude) Bird Sprite -Awakening of Light- - HEAVY: Kinda rushed and you can tell, but Gundam-Dude still makes a better 30-minute file than just about anybody else. The style is just perfect throughout: streams are tons of fun to hit. This is gonna be a staple in the scoreboards for MA freaks, I'm sure.

(iRanch) Black Lair - HEAVY: Damn, this file has gotten so much better from the first time I played it. Tons of fun. Maybe some of the mines/bursts are a little oddly placed, but the steps themselves are excellent. Some really subtle but fantastic pattern usage to the percussion (like the way you made the focus on the [2][3] columns a recurring thing when the bass drum tensed up).

(CosmoVibe) Black Light Machine - HEAVY: This is the best marathon file I’ve ever played. Fantastic song choice and the file does it justice: it feels incredibly immersive, doubly so for how sparse the actual steps are. Even when the song is laid-back, you’re on your toes just waiting for what’s to come. Pattern choice is truly splendid throughout, and the choice of accents (freezes/mines) delivers the song very well (minus like 2-3 quibbles in a TEN-MINUTE FILE). Nothing to say, honestly: you have a reputation as being a particularly ambitious stepartist, BOOFANG, and this file shows why it’s well-earned.

(cedolad) Bonfire - HEAVY: Good application of mine theory, color notes, and jumps to accentuate the brass. Maybe a little heavy on the freeze usage and I'm not fond of mirroring your patterns on repeated choruses, but solid all-around.

(moches) Boulafacet - My file.

(FissionMailed1) Canary Part III - EASY: Great easy chart.
HEAVY: I really enjoyed this. The patterns felt a bit cramped at times, especially when you had a bunch of those alternating jump patterns, but the old-school approach worked quite well with the song for the most part. (My personal favorite motif was the alternating one-handed minitrills. veeeeery effective way to get that rhythm across, nicely done.) Make some more files, dude, this was pretty baller.

(Detrimentalist) Chain Dumbin - HEAVY: I should not like this file, and yet it's too much fun. It feels like your stab @ a midare file: badass song + non-technical but fun steps. Even if this is realllly sloppy in parts, your simple and straightforward style shines in this (especially freeze usage), and it's a ton of fun throughout. Also the 32nds remind me of Demystify Feast because they’re wonderful to hit but super-lame to score on lolololol

(rog) Club Ibuki - BEGINNER: damn, I love this file but I would have tweaked a lot of small things just so it looked a little smoother. On the other hand, the rugged quality gives it a lot of its value as a scoring file, so I dunno. Very very fun file in any case.
HEAVY: a bit smoother but also a bit less fun. Trade-offs!

(Detrimentalist) Cygnus....Vismund Cygnus - HEAVY: Very tricky file to nail, but the patterns fit the song very nicely (great application of jack theory!); the bombast of the song carries over well. Certain patterns feel a bit biased towards one hand, but they’re very minor.

(rog) Dancing Box - HEAVY: Impeccable. This is how this song should have been done. That said, some of the really fast bursts (like 64th bursts) really, really don’t sound like they should be bursts to me.

(Antronach) Deja Vu - HEAVY: Layering the vocals as double freezes that build on each other in the verses is a very cool visual concept, and it works very well for the most part. The simultaneous freezes in the chorus are a bit too strong, though. Nice attempt at building to a climax, but it feels a bit too structured here--not quite sure what to say about that. Solid all-around, overall: neat little MA file for a neat little song.

(Linus) DENGEKI Tube - HEAVY: This is actually quite a good interpretation of the song. the 16th rhythms (aka the non-soul-crushing parts) are nifty to hit, the 32nd static is expressed through incredibly abrasive patterns that still somehow flow decently, and the general peaceful tone of the file in the first half is subverted with all of the bursts (and later on the trills). It's also a good scoreboard file, though that probably depends on your tolerance for terrible patterns and mindblocks.
BEGINNER: Yeah, I'm not playing this

(Torrent) Dirtwalker - HEAVY: Unique concept for a file and very very well-executed with strong patterns and freeze usage. Despite how easy it was, I was engaged throughout. I find it quite impressive that you don't lose grasp of a single motif in this file, either--every single part of this is incredibly cohesive. I found like one pattern (the 64th pattern that goes [1][2][3][2]) that I felt could have been tweaked, but otherwise I have nothing to say. This is masterful.

(IcyWorld) Dolize - HEAVY: I am growing very, very fond of your files, IcyWorld. A common (and frankly unfounded) division we Stepmanier players make is between "serious" files and "dump" files, but your style pretty much eliminates that dichotomy. The patterns/rhythms may be ridiculous, and yet I still feel as if I'm playing the song perfectly instead of being forced to hit stupid crap to "score" or whatever. I can't say that this would have been the way I would have interpreted this song, but for what it is, it's flawlessly executed.

(Torrent) Drawcia Soul - HEAVY: As a scoring file, this is nicely constructed. No complaints.

(AlexDest) Dstrukt - HEAVY: 32nd TRILLS MY WORST ENEMY. Otherwise, very fun file, expected of Alex at this point.

(leonid) Earth Tower Devotion - HEAVY: You always make well-crafted, replayable scoring files, and this is no exception. I'm a liiitle disappointed that there's no easier chart because the song is so pretty and chill and the bursty super-fast patterns don't always reflect it well, but such is life.

By the way, the video is beautiful.

(Antronach) End Of The World - HEAVY: Nifty pattern usage with the repeating 16th triplets chained together and the minijacks in the slow section--I enjoyed the contrasts between tension and fluidity in this file. Freeze usage was also great throughout, though there was one part where I didn't quite pick up on what you were following??? Nothing much to say, otherwise.
ONI: Pretty much Heavy + mines, lol. This seemed kinda pointless.

(iamme) Fatal Tragedy - HEAVY: Not a huge fan, but it’s great for scoring on. Polyrhythms are absolutely vile.

(Kommisar) Final Battle vs. Satan - HEAVY: Very simple approach, but you’ve got these kinds of files down, man. Great patterns, great climax theory, great file. Only complaint is that the 16th stream in the first repetition feels a little haphazard but it’s still expertly crafted so I won’t push it too much.

(FissionMailed1) Floating Through Time - MEDIUM: Easy but not boring at all. Great song and great patterns (though they get clustered when there's too many jumps). The grace notes are good accents and will be fun for newbs to hit.

(Torrent) Fucking Paranoid - ONI: Fairly random patterns (though they’re nicely balanced), but some very fun tricks. File doesn’t get repetitive at all, nice job with the variations.

(moches vs Mollocephalus) Gamma - Our file.

(Torrent) GHOSTS - HEAVY: Less fun than ONI, but I suppose beginners will find this useful. Still kinda generic, though.
ONI: This chart is why I accepted this file. Even as someone whose biggest pet peeve is annoying freezes, this is really fun. The freeze vocal sections flow amazingly well, the streams are plenty of fun, and on the whole it’s a great bit of fun to try and MA. There was one pattern in the stream that led to a one-handed 16th trill for like one measure but the file’s so dense I hardly noticed.

(moches vs Valor) Guitar Hero - Our file.

EASY/MEDIUM: My charts.
HEAVY: Good job with this. Straightforward but quite enjoyable.

(Ferrari) Gun Rock v2 - HARD: Suitably intense file with great usage of freezes, jacks, and hands. The 32nds felt randomly patterned at times, but they still flowed well.

(mi40) Hajnal2 - HEAVY: Song itself is a bit oddly paced but steps are basically perfect down to the last note. Bursts are subtly challenging without being ridiculous/impossible, pattern choice is flowy where it needs to be and tricky where it needs to be, color notes/freezes all very well-utilized.

(AlexDest) Hand Throw - HARD: Very fun. Maybe a few freezes could have been shortened.

(eastsideman09 vs rog) Happy Screaming Night Businessman - HEAVY: Brutal file, but very well-made. The jumpjacks flow very well, the 32nd bursts are appropriately patterned to the song, and on the whole this file feels quite cohesive. Only complaint is that some of the grace 64ths feel a little excessive.

(Roar) Hayate - HEAVY: Really simple and really fun. Reminds me of what Malice would have done with this song, and that’s a big compliment. File doesn’t really end with the bang I wanted it to, but minor quibble at best.

(blind vs moches) I Knew You Were Trouble - BEGINNER: Beginner file.
HEAVY: Good chart. Freezes could be tweaked a little (some are too long, and the minifreezes going to the harmonies in the build-up to the chorus look reaaallly weird), and maybe the layering’s a touch inconsistent at times, but it captures the song’s rhythms quite well (I actually like the verse sections of this file better than the verse sections in mine).
ONI: My file.

(rog) I Say Drink That Shit - BEGINNER: Not reviewing this. Far too hard. Those of you who can handle this stuff can enjoy.
HEAVY: Very fast-paced, but it's a fair file (aka no stupid shit). I waver from Aing/AAing this file each time I play it, which raises the stakes a little for me. Good stuff.

(Puppet) id - HEAVY: I enjoy this much more than dondon’s file, aside from like a few tiny things. Impeccable patterns and steps, as always.

(AlexDest) INFINITE PRAYER - HEAVY: With the mines, it’s an atmospheric dodgeball file with a killer (literally—why is this so hard?) climax. Without, it’s a simple but enjoyable throwback to the heyday of DDR. Win-win!
But seriously, this could use an easier chart…

(Valor) Judgement Day - HEAVY: This file is basically a Bemani megamix, lol. I know the song’s not from Bemani, but it feels like it should be from beatmania or something. Anyway, this is pretty much as solid as it can be. Even though notes following freezes are my pet peeve, your usage of them is so consistent that it feels less like sloppy patterning and more like an intentional motif. Song itself is pretty repetitive, but you do a decent job of switching things up and the file is interesting throughout as a result. Not my favorite, but for what it is, it’s good and I see it resonating with its audience.

(Patashu) Judgment Day - HEAVY: The BPM gimmick makes this tons of fun visually and very hard to score on. Technically very well-made, but I feel that the freezes are a bit too heavy in sections where the mood is a bit more jovial. Really cool use of mines.

(moches) Juicy - My file.

(YTY) Koi no Bakkin Bakkingamu! - HEAVY: Good file. A bit simplistic, but high-energy steps and solid patterns. The freezes near the end to the guitar could have been toned down and a few jacks were quirky.

(moches) Lataia - My file.

(mi40) Lawn Wake III - HEAVY: Not as big a fan of this as I am of Amber Shores, but it's still an almost perfect scoring file with tons of little pockets that will mess you up and make you want to play again. I think it's just the song clouding my judgment. For what it is, it’s just about spot-on.

(Gundam-Dude) Leia - MEDIUM: Nicely toned-down.
HEAVY: I had a ton of fun. Some very nice surprises buried in here, like that section with the mines topping off the consecutive 8th jumps going to those super-strong guitar chords. Song's dope, too: a lot more gentle than your usual YOOYOYOOPEE fare.

(Gameoson) Lewd Violence - First of all, props for having five (!!) charts.
ONI: Very fun. Great x-mod tricks: just challenging enough to throw the player off a bit but giving the player a lot of rope to get right back into the song even if they screw up. (That's such a hard balance to get in x-mod files and I'm impressed at how well you managed it here.) If there's one nitpick, it's that some of the mine placements (especially in that fast 8th handstream) are clever but far too uncomfortable to hit at a song this speed. Pattern usage was very good all-around.

(Kommisar) Lightning Strikes Again/Metal Squad - HEAVY: Even though this is a marathon file, it’s fast-paced and enjoyable. Great guitar solos and solid patterns all-around.

(moches) Little Drummer Punk Droid - My file.

(Rumia) lmbo - HEAVY: Appealing song, and very well-expressed as always with Kil files. Nothing much to say. Some of the bursts might be a little wonky?

(Scylaax) Log On - MEDIUM: This shitload of minijacks in the middle is stupidly intense. Very fun, though: for some reason, the freezes in this don’t bother me much, while the freezes in the Heavy chart really grind my gears. Maybe it’s because the file is less dense, and they just look a lot cleaner.
HEAVY: The shitload of minijacks in the middle is stupidly intense. Otherwise, quite fun throughout. Freeze usage was effective in some parts, sloppy in others. Mine usage, on the other hand, was very good, particularly when you ratcheted up the tension near the end.

(Puppet) Loli fishing next 20000 leagues - HEAVY: I actually enjoy this more than Oni, hahaa. Simple but basically spot-on.
ONI: Expressive as all get-out and very enjoyable.

(iRanch) Lost Love - HEAVY: I love this file, though the jumpstream’s a tad excessive—I would have preferred to see some more subtle usage of 16ths in the main chorus. Dubstep section had me going whoa and the 8th sections have impeccable pattern usage. Maybe the part JUST before the last stream with the long freezes could have been a bit more, I dunno, fluid.

I left off here yesterday, so...

(blind) Lost Woods - EASY: Good freeze-vomit beginner file.
MEDIUM: Good freeze-vomit intermediate file.
HARD: I’m not a fan of freeze-vomit files, personally (well, usually not), but I’ll make this file an exception. Minifreezes at the beginning were a good attempt at stepping but needed to be more clearly accentuated (maybe they needed to be shorter) because they look like you’re following melody lines at first and it took me a while to figure that out. Long freezes prevent creative pattern usage but what you have here is about as good as possible, so good layering all-around. Nice progression, too. Overall the song itself lacks potential, imo, but you make a decently enjoyable file out of it.

(moches vs Torrent) Lovely Bloodflow - Our file. To be honest, Torrent did 99% of all the work here: all I did was tweak things here and there. This is a really interesting song and he did an awesome job with it.

(Don) Luna's Tower - HEAVY: Perfect. Great jack theory, the solos are stepped with flair and grace, and each motif in the steps expresses the song perfectly. Don has a reputation as Kil’s successor, and had I not known who stepped this I could have easily mistaken this for a Kil file.

(wc) Machine - HEAVY: This is one of my favorite files in the entire pack: such a weird file, but unmistakably wc. The fast section is spot-on. It’s amazing how well it flows for how dense it is. I would have liked to see some more effects in the beginning and the end, but then again, the fact that you step those parts so simply gives them a bit of a meditative atmosphere, which I’m also fond of, so I can’t fault you too much for making those sections as straightforward as possible. On a last (immature) note, I find the 24th brrrrrrs fun as hell to hit. Sue me.

(dondon151) made in innocent - HEAVY: At first, I didn't like the ending at all, but after reading stargroup's review for it I came around. He's right: as always with dondon151 files, this is very well-constructed and feels smooth as silk throughout. Very, very fun. The rhythms on the strings feel very slightly off though and I'm not quite sure why.

(icecubez v2) Magical Voice Shower - HEAVY: Some of the accents in this file are weird, but a very fun file overall. Simply stepped with a nice climax.

(mi40) Masodik Galamb - HEAVY: As always, your pattern usage shines throughout. A little iffy on the jacks in the second half of the file, though: it’s a logical way to step the song, but they don’t feel as intuitive as your other files. Maybe those could have been toned down. Also, it would have been cool to see some kind of visual signifier that the song was fading/shifting at the end. Maybe some color notes? Overall, fun file.

(Jyris vs Mollocephalus) Morning Sunlight - HEAVY: Very soothing file overall, though some of the freeze usage is subtly quite hard and can wreck your quad attempt if you're not careful (ahem: me).

(Torrent) near dark - HEAVY: I just cannot get over how repetitive most of this is. That’s the song’s fault, mostly, but I still would have liked to see some more progression in this—aside from the minor variations here and there, it’s the same rhythm over and over and that gets numbing very quickly. That said, you clearly caught what details you could, and the patterns are quite good; this kind of approach just isn’t doing it for me, sadly.

(skorpion9x) Nippon Egao Hyakkei - OVERALL: So this review should just be me squeeing about a Stepmania founding father making files again in freaking 2013, but I digress. Glad to see you around. Total old-school stuff here, but the updates for today’s audience work quite well.

(mi40) Non-Stop - HEAVY: Bizarre file but really great for intermediate players, this is pretty much right at that level of difficulty. I have never seen a vocaloid rap file in my life (I think that's what this is???), but this was surprisingly fluid and well-done: you have a very good sense of just how much to layer on each song, and even when things get tricky they’re never forced. Simple patterns but has a bit of an old-school vibe to it.

(IcyWorld) o'er the flood - HEAVY: Really, really fun, and that’s all I'm going to say. It looks like a dumpy/amateurish file but it doesn't play like that at all. So much fun.

(npv) Ossuary - HEAVY: This file is SO. OLD. I think it's from around 2008 lmao. Very well-made (par the course for npv, of course), but excessively abrasive and frustrating in some parts as well (par the course for npv, of course). Your general approach works better with a song like this, though, and I can’t say that the file is ever boring—once you get into its weird little groove, it’s pretty interesting.

(moches vs Scylaax) POINT OF NO RETURN - Our file. gj Scylaax ilu :3

(IcyWorld) Polis Ruin - HEAVY: Good on you for trying to step an easy file, it's always nice to see people branching out. I'm not sure that this works perfectly: the relative sparseness of the song means that any technical errors you make will be more glaring (which is the advantage of making hard files, btw--everybody's too busy hitting stuff to wonder if this or that pattern is PERFECTLY PITCH RELEVANT or whatever), and while this is well-made, it's still not intricately crafted enough to overcome my nitpicks about that certain pattern here or there. Perhaps that's just my preconceptions, though, and you should take this with a grain of salt because I tend to bitch about patterns more than almost any other stepartist (why do you think it takes me so long to finish one file, lol). In any case, I find this file quite relaxing and fun, so well-done.

(eastsideman09) Pulse de Chocobo - HEAVY: This is very thorough and fun. Nice job with the mine placement—some great subtle trickery in there—and absolutely excellent patterns and application of jack theory.

(Kommisar) Purple Drank - HEAVY: With the terrifying mine wall of doom in v1 tweaked, this is just super-smooth Kola Kid fun from Mr. Canada Chef Goulet-LeBlanc. Thumbs up.

(Kommisar) Puyo Puyo Song Game Version - HEAVY: One thing you always had a better grasp on than almost any other stepartist was the importance of relative accents. Technicality is important, but what a file makes the player FEEL is being emphasized is much more so. This isn’t a strictly technical file, but your layering fits the song perfectly—the only complaint is the weird pair of 32nd freezes stuck in between a bunch of 16ths, which just feel off. Great for scoring on.

(B3nny vs rog) Red Heat - HEAVY: Much more laid-back than your typical dubstep file, I like that. Strong file with tons of variation. Minor aesthetic quibbles here and there (a few slightly overlong freezes, patterns that could be rearranged to look a little cleaner).

(Condoct & Detrimentalist) Reon - HEAVY: First of all, f*cking badass song. Perfect for stepping. This is, for the most part, very well-made, but the way some of the sections are patterned just IRKS me: there are a lot of little inconsistencies that could have been tweaked and made this a more cohesive file. Oftentimes, you layer so heavily that the patterns form little clusters of 8th jacks, and had you been a bit more prudent, you could have caught a lot of the song’s more subtly emphasized notes. (A few of the vocal freezes really could have been toned down, imo) As is, it’s a bit haphazard. Ending could also use more vocal holds for a climactic effect. Mine usage is fantastic as usual. Keep in mind these are small quirks…for the most part, I quite enjoy this. I just think it could be even better.
ONI: Well-made (nothing less from condoct, of course), and the basic rhythms get the feel of this song quite well, but aesthetically, it lacks the polish that’ll really get the song across. The file also got a little too bogged down in constant 8ths, which felt a little mindless sometimes and didn't get the accented notes very well (this is something the Heavy chart did a little better, imo). Still pretty enjoyable if you’re into this kind of file; I’m just being an uptight ass because the song is SO DAMN GOOD.

(00Razor00) Retro City - HEAVY: Honestly, the freezes in this file just feels a little cluttered, especially with all the grace notes and jumps hanging around. Maybe it’s a matter of perception, but the song feels so smooth that it’s a little jarring how difficult the file is to read sometimes. That said, most of your patterns (save the freezes) flow pretty well, especially the jacks going to the vocal samples in the background, and the slowdown definitely switched things up. Overall, I enjoyed this.

(Torrent vs rog) Robotomy - MEDIUM: Nothing to say about this, this is a stone-cold classic. I can't even imagine how long this must have taken you guys, but it was worth it.

(Valor) Satori de Pon ! - HEAVY: Simple but effective. A lot of little pattern tweaks would make this a lot more refined: tweak the 32nd rolls a bit, make sure the freezes read a bit cleaner, and arrange the 16th bursts to feel more natural. (Chaining them to the 8th stream would have been a lot more comfortable, actually. A lot of stepartists think it’s better to stay away from 8th minijacks, but when used well they’re very very good.) Good usage of mines and good length for a song of this type.

(Lynn) Sentou Amu - HEAVY: Best file I’ve played from you. Super-intense with tons of little details that will trip up even the most experienced players, but never inappropriate for the song. The little spurts of hands with jumps chained in are tons of fun to hit. Only complaints are one sloppy polyrhythm around ~1500-1550 combo and the randomly patterned 16th bursts going to the drums in the middle.

(Don) Shion - HEAVY: Very interesting, well thought-out file. Patterns all fit snugly, and the layering strikes a great balance between high-octane moments and more subtle, intricate work. Great ending, too.

(cetaka) Since 1983 - HEAVY: Old cetaka file we threw in since it’s a heavily underrated scoring file. I wish he were still around so we’d have more files like this.

(Roar) Sol Cosine Job 2 - HEAVY: Expertly constructed scoring file with a great climax. Straightlayering gets uncomfortable at times, but for the most part you know what you’re doing here. No complaints.

(Kommisar) Sorceress Elise - HEAVY: See my review for Ringo’s Theme; it says basically everything I want to say about this. This works quite well; maybe a bit of left/right-hand bias in a few patterns, but nothing too brutal.

(Kommisar vs SCL) Still Getting It - HEAVY: I still don’t think the long jacks work (they feel like they force the difficulty on an otherwise static file) and wish they had been patterned differently, but otherwise this is a nifty little file. The little way you express the subtle rise-and-fall with the double 16th freezes is pretty neat.

(mi40) Strangeprogram - BEGINNER: This file is STOOPID and I refuse to review it. I just kept it in here so that there would be one file in this pack people couldn't pass. if anybody manages to pass Beginner, post that shit in the Brag Board, because seriously, this file is total madness.

(Baq12) Switcharoo - HEAVY: This is by far the best thing I’ve played from you. The jumpstream is spot-on, the guitar solos all own, and that long-ass drum solo may be one of the best things I have ever played in Stepmania. Only complaint is an aesthetic one: the freezes in this get too long at times. But wow, what a ride.

(bmah) Tabibito Rerun - OVERALL: This is your best file, in my opinion. Great mixture of old-school style with newer theories (especially color theory), the jacks play absolutely perfectly, and the patterns are more-or-less spot-on. Heavy is right at my level and it's just perfect; Oni's a great scoring file. You did better with this than just about anybody could.

(moches) Thanks For Nothing - My file.

(hi19hi19 vs Scintill) The Cataclysm - ONI: This file is just a ridiculously fun throwback to the days of GLoVE's insaneous GiTaR sOlOZzzz and 24th notes instead of color note vomit. Spot-on.

(Gundam-Dude) The Clear Blue Sky - EASY/MEDIUM: Great beginner charts. Good, relaxing song and interesting steps to go with them.
HEAVY: I really like this. Even though it’s mostly 8ths, you have some great detailed freezework that makes the file very visually appealing and fun to hit.

(rog) THE HERO RETURNS HOME - ONI: Feels a touch overstepped in some parts, but it’s great for scoring—just the right length and with some truly nefarious patterns buried in there. Not my cup of tea, but I see it living a prosperous life.

(Kil) The Least 100sec - HEAVY: The use of color notes in this file is truly innovative. You’d expect all of the fancy piano flourishes and guitar solos to be stepped, but in here all of that mess is condensed into just one green/orange note, and the file feels completely different—it still retains the rhythmic bombast of the song without losing any of the aesthetic elegance. Fantastic all-around, the jack theory works incredibly well and the rhythms are perfectly chosen. Only issue is one pair of 48th grace notes around 500 combo (they feel a bit too overemphasized), but otherwise I wouldn’t change a thing.

(bmah) The Road is on Fire - EASY: Super-slick.
HEAVY: Corny-ass song, even for you, dude. :P File itself is quite good, feels like a throwback but with a lot of modern influences mixed in (narrowly avertable mines, color note squiggles, the whole ending). Nice “fuck you” note right at the end, by the way, I bet that’ll throw quite a few AAA/FC attempts off. Only complaint is that some of the freezes in the beginning could have been arranged more elegantly.

(IcyWorld) Thrillseeker - HEAVY: Another very fun file from you; I like that this one’s geared more towards intermediate players. Really cool usage of freezes throughout, very chunky.

(Scylaax) tick - HEAVY: The problem with this is how heavily layered it is: I can’t keep track of everything, first of all, and the file just LOOKS sloppier because there isn’t any way to get all the patterns you want to fit. Freeze usage, same thing: less is more when you figure out how to use patterns/layering to accentuate everything and compress your steps into effective shorthand that’ll get across to players. It’s a bit less severe with this file, mainly since it’s so easy, but it’s still something to keep in mind. Good patterns in the beginning and in the solo, though. Overall decent file, but it would have benefitted from a more elegant approach.

(ferrari) Training Mode - HEAVY: Just copying my old notes for this: this is one of the best files you have ever stepped, I had a huge grin on my face playing it. Small criticisms: 24th drum rhythm at the beginning is patterned awkwardly, maybe a few mines that feel weird/don’t go to anything that I can hear. Awesome to play, though.

(Torrent) Tsugaru - HEAVY: This is, by far, my favorite Tsugaru file. Difficulty is a bit unbalanced, but wowowow is this fun.

(Wayward Vagabond) Twirling Star - HEAVY: Such a weird song and file. I feel that the first part (before the song segues into the slower section) was quite unbalanced; the 32nd stream, for example, is the hardest thing in the entire file but is stepped to what feels like a background sound. The placement of the jumps feels a bit haphazard, too, but maybe that’s because the song is haphazard, too. Still a very fun file overall, and I have to say that this file uses freezes wonderfully: they give this file a lot of texture and visual appeal.

(Wineandbread) Unfounded Revenge - Smashing Song of Praise - All four charts are excellent. Tons of variety.
EASY: Very nice difficulty progression and simple, fun patterns that beginners will latch right onto.
MEDIUM: A good step up from easy, probably. Sorry I haven't played this, heh. I’m sure it’s good.
HEAVY: Maybe a few of the freezes could be adjusted so that they don't overlap with the patterns, but otherwise a neat intermediate file.
ONI: Great for scoring, great fun. Some of the bursts might be way too hard compared to the rest of the file, and if there's one small criticism, it's that there should probably be a difficulty in between Heavy/Oni, but you have four charts already, so I'm not going to push for five.

(Kommisar) Vivid in Heart - BEGINNER: Absolutely brutal scoring file, wowowow. I'm not good enough to enjoy it, but it serves its purpose very well.
HEAVY: Much more my speed. Very fun file, a touch repetitive but closes out right before it gets stale.

(rparty89) Watch Out Pt. 2 VS DJ Yoshitaka - HEAVY: The quieter/less dense sections of this are solid: the patterns are well-structured, you have a good understanding of technicality, and the file plays well. The jumpstreams, on the other hand, are incredibly haphazard, with the only recognizable structuring going to the vocal samples. 24th/16th polyrhythms could work, but the patterns are too sloppy for them to play smoothly. (Also, 24th jacks? Really?) That’s partially the song’s fault, but you also need to learn how to create balanced, smooth patterns. You do demonstrate an intuitive understanding of dynamic layering (good usage of hands/quads), so I think with some refinement you’ll be making pretty good files. Good attempt.

(ferrari) While Tha Rekkid Spinz - HEAVY: Quite an intuitive file, I like that a lot. Mines and jack theory are utilized perfectly for an intermediate file: they up the tension without being intense. A few of the jacks in the patterns do feel slightly forced (since you’re cramming quite a bit into four keys), but for the most part the whole thing plays very smoothly. Good demonstration of how less can be more.

(MrTea) Windowlicker - OVERALL: Props on having four charts. This is subdued throughout but surprisingly trippy and enjoyable. The gimmicks are essential to the effect this song has on me.

(eastsideman09) Wolfgang's 5th Symphony - HEAVY: For some reason, this lags like craaaaazy on my netbook, so I can’t properly review this. I WILL say, that by looking at it in the editor, it’s tremendously thought-out, detailed, and enjoyable, even just visually. Easily one of the best x-mod files I’ve ever seen.

(Valor) XTREMEPOLESTA - BEGINNER: This chart has the horrible 64th rolls which I hate, but it also has the super-fun mines going to the WOOP WOOPs. Trade-offs! Really fun file otherwise.
ONI: Very fun file if a bit haphazard. Also the quad in the middle with each note ending with its corresponding vocal sample is the coolest thing ever. Seriously, that's the coolest fucking thing I've ever see done with mines, so...nice.

(Antronach) (i wanna give you) Devotion - HEAVY: First of all, song is tuh-ribble, girlfriend. Fun file, though: pitched right at intermediate players but with a nice difficulty progression. Only complaint is how haphazard the patterns for the 32nd bursts are (jack theory really would have helped this flow better). Otherwise, good structure and style.

(Charlo) ...In A Movie - HEAVY: Yeah, this has a bunch of little technical niggles—so what? It’s an incredibly efficient file, simple but the rhythms and layering bring out the song perfectly. I’m mildly concerned at how long the 32nd/24th stream is in the guitar solo because it’s so hard compared to the rest of the file, but I can handle it just fine and the patterns aren’t forbiddingly challenging. Most of the minor technical errors are negligible, btw, but for some reason some of the 32nds in the beginning stuck out as egregious to me. Don’t quite know why. Double freezes are a little sloppy stylistically, could have shortened them or rearranged the patterns so that they don’t overlap so much. Overall, tons of fun.
