Pause at :59 and compare Also, Microsoft charges for online because they take the money and buy better servers. PSN still feels like a BETA rather than a final, stable project. I own both consoles and this is my point of view

![]() http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/...-and-qriocity/
"we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained." "While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility. " I think it's time that we all can say Sony messed up so bad, it's going to kill there rep for a long time. |

Pretty much every Linux/UNIX system out there runs on plain text and make up the vast majority of servers on the internet. FFR runs on some kind of Linux if I'm not mistaken since I noticed you guys seem to have ~/public_html/ setup. Only time shit shouldn't be plain text though is when it's sent though the internet but it just takes some encryption.

![]() Well...if someone hacks into the 360 accounts and takes my CC#, it won't be any use since it's expired.

![]() Man virus that's funny you mention the xbox live services going down for two weeks after xmas '10 cause I don't remember that at all..
But anyways if it did happen 2 weeks of downtime since NORMAL XBOX. Not just 360. Also I'm pretty positive XBL didn't go down because it was being hacked and everyones CC# and information was being taken. :woops:

![]() I like how every few months some megacorporation gets hit with an sql injection or whatever and everything gets compromised
makes you think about how intrinsically weakly we design our IT security systems

![]() I wouldn't be surprised if this is somehow linked to the geohot case -- some Anon hacker deciding to further damage Sony's rep (almost every hacker is familiar with the geohot case at this point). Ever since that case started boiling, people have been poking and prodding like mad at Sony's security. This sort of breach honestly doesn't shock me.
Needless to say, this year so far has been disastrous for Sony in terms of PR and image. Every other week it seems like more Sony retardation is exposed. But I agree, Patashu -- it feels like security is fundamentally weak. Most coders aren't rigorous when it comes to sanitizing inputs and verifying code. Half the battle is just getting the code to *work* efficiently and properly, let alone secure it from all sorts of possible attacks. Last edited by Reincarnate; 04-27-2011 at 11:30 AM.. |

![]() Fact of Fake, The hacker of PSN has now been hired by Sony to create a firewall to stop it from ever happening again. Either that or jail time.
Don't quote me, I heard it from a friend.

![]() That sort of rumor is typically fake -- we all saw how Sony acted towards geohot. They are quicker to punish to the full letter of the law than they are to focus on acquiring talent. There is a rumored case of Sony trying to recruit Koushik Dutta (hacker of the Motorola Xoom) and being turned down because of how Sony was treating geohot (although personally I think the email is very unprofessional and makes me question its authenticity).
Although in this case, there's not much to laud about someone who compromises credit card data/passwords/personal info and causes problems for everyone. Last edited by Reincarnate; 04-27-2011 at 02:48 PM.. |
