You guys are all ******s arguing over a game that simulates a videogame. Just play it how you want to play it and if you don't like what the other party likes then tough ****. Honestly, not that hard people.

what the hell am i? i dont play stepmania. i dont hate keyboard players, or support pad players. i just dont like spread.
i dont even play the damn game, i couldnt care less about if pad players think they are superior its fine to request whatever you want; just see that whatever gets requested, including things that would help expand the game and make it better, are often neglected for whatever reason. with the way things have been, you'd be better off doing it yourself and committing it. everyone would win then, right? |

Josh,
Been a while. I've read both the quoted thread and this one and from my viewpoint, the issue is far more about forum mannerism than the future of StepMania. I certainly don't find fault with wanting to populate the StepMania forums with more keyboard players, but I think you're misrepresenting the situation. That small minority is not controlling the future of the default distribution of StepMania. Far, far too many people have devolved into one-liner ha-ha-funnies on forums. You can even see it littering this thread with complete dreck. It's grossly too easy for people to push off completely ridiculous statements like "StepMania is not meant for keyboard charts" just because in their eyes it shuts down your suggestion in a single stroke. StepMania is made for anything you want to use it for! Yes, the default configuration is four arrows, but that doesn't mean it has to stop there. I think you are either overestimating or exaggerating (for your rallying cry's benefit) the control imbalance between keyboard and pad players based on the stepmania.com forums. For the few (and I do mean few) people contributing the most to the actual code base, those dismissive posts shooting down your idea are not taken as seriously as you might think. Now, there's a lot of real, useful discussion that could take place regarding a seven-arrow game type, because it does seem out of left field to someone like me, but the ridiculously negative response you've seen on the forum is not indicative of the core developers' opinions and should never be misrepresented as such. Those posts definitely get in the way of real discussion, but I don't know if adding fuel to the fire is going to solve it. If you have concerns about keyboard players being ignored by the developers, we can discuss that. If your goal is to make sure your voice is heard, we can make sure this is happening. Let's just find a more constructive way of doing it than (unintentionally) inciting people to go spread shiat on another forum. (See foilman's post; sarcasm?) --- Part of me really wishes people would get over the lolgasms they have with dismissive posting. "no. just no." and its ilk are so farking old. "but people who play spread are stupid". Come on, guys. Let's talk some time. I mean it. At length. Over AIM ("Plaguefox", as usual) or similar. |

edit: I didn't see PlagueFox's post because he posted it as I was writing mine. I'll contact you over AIM.
Please know, though, that I wasn't trying to start flame wars or conflict, and asked for people to behave civilly. Quote:

To put in my all important 2 cents... I will likely lock this thread in the near future. The purpose of the thread has been achieved. The people who A0 wants to know about this situation now know about it... and all the flaming and circumlocution in the world won't further things beyond that.
So I'll leave it for a bit to get final responses in... but I see this only having the potential to continue downhill.

EDIT: Oh wait, you're talking about my post where I say we should all go to the SM boards and act like assholes?
Yeah, of course I'm not being serious. I thought you were talking about my first post, in which I was being serious. Sorry for that misunderstanding. Last edited by foilman8805; 03-19-2008 at 10:03 PM.. |

1) from my simfile-making viewpoint: I see very little reason why 4+ keys need to press at once for any song I have ever heard in my life, also see very little reason why 6 doesnt work as well as 7 in playing terms 2) By forum rules the most appropriate place isnt here, but Im probably being too strict since Tass doesnt see a huge problem with it *shrugs*... |
