I love this pack. It is chock full of so, so much variety. Yes, it is of highly differing quality, but man there are some of my all time favorites in here. Also some of my least favorites. It ain't perfect but I still love it.

Anyway, Yolomania 5 when?

pursuant to this i'd like to outline what i think because i don't have those thoughts easily referenced anywhere and it's been a long time since i've done a non-shitpost

- Yolo 4 is not an terrible in an absolute sense, it is terrible in a relative sense. Yolo 1 was thoroughly mediocre. Yolo 2/3 were both decent/good standalone releases and each was better than the pack that preceded it. So yolo 4 was a marks a reversal in the trend and even if a fifth pack were expected, a likely inflection point.

- Yolo 4 was terribly executed from concept to development to release. People like to think that setting an arbitrary deadline for pack release and then sticking to it no matter what is somehow good development sense. It's not. You inevitably trade away quality to meet the deadline that you needlessly assigned to yourself. You put tacit (or more overt) pressure on your judges to accept more things with less revision and to accept things that might otherwise have been denied. The pack also required multiple (more than three maybe? I forgot) patches upon release. It's just shitty workmanship under the guise of "organization".

- Which brings me to my next point, which is that Yolo 4 doesn't only have bad or meh files. It's not that bad. Yolo 4 has a couple dozen of great files among the 125 or so other meh or unplayable ones. Pack could have been 1/4th the size and nobody would have noticed. I judge packs on the proportion of files that are good, not on the hard number. I can understand the opposing stance but I don't subscribe to it at all. 25% isn't even that bad in the scheme of all packs ever released, but for a pack that size that was supposed to be the heir to yolo 3?

people sometimes shit on yolo 4 for having a bunch of ossssss meta files and while I think it's not an appropriate place for a bunch of converts to be released (just make another pack???) i think people get a little harsh on that point

maybe they don't and i'm just projecting who knows

anyway if you compare yolo 4 to any old run of the mill pack released by some no name shitter then yes it's great, but if you're doing that you've already failed

also choof was right, yolomania is really just a stupid fucking name, but it's also a stupid fucking name you have no rights to claim and even in a universe where i would applaud any attempt to continue the series, i would still tell you that you have no right doing so

given that wafles shamed himself into exile after releasing a dud of a pack meant to distract everyone from how sml died in a flaming ball of slow burning fire, i question why would ever want a yolo 5 let alone volunteer to start it

For the amount of submissions, the yolo4 judges did a outstanding job to keep the dates and release at time, even if the process was indeed rushed, i never saw that amount of comitment at judging in another pack tbh

If you compare to recent smoc packs (same scale of files) i can see that yolo4 still had it's merits. And while my favourite is the 3rd one, i cannot blame it for not surpassing it.

Yolo 5 could be possible maybe if skwid + caliber wanted to judge, i don't think wafles would give a shit

i liked yolomania 4, if there was a yolomania 5 it should be done by the guys that worked on the first 4 imo

if you want a pack like yolomania you can make one but i would say use a different name, start your own series of packs
