Kawaii025's Tournament of Randomness
Quote:
And on that note, I should probably say that I'm def going to ghost D7 because who wouldn't want to compete with D7 without the obligation of staying there after the tournament is over?

I'll ask again: Can I, please, have a song from D5 and one from D6 so I can check my real division?

Re: Kawaii025's Tournament of Randomness
I thought you meant as far as ghosting in the tournament...? Or do you just want a file at random to play?

Re: Kawaii025's Tournament of Randomness
Leaving Registration Open for now because I'm not closing registration until the end of Round 1 on next Saturday.
ROUND 1 - "Play What You Want" It literally means what it says. Play any file you want that meets the following criteria. - File must have over 100 notes - File must be equal to or longer than 1:30, but not longer than 3:30 (kinda don't wanna see a bunch of T&J) - File must be a public file. No tokens or unlock files of any sort Minimum difficulty requirements: D1 - 10+ D2 - 20+ D3 - 30+ D4 - 40+ D5 - 50+ D6 - 60+ D7 - 70+ NEW DIFFICULTY D1: 10-19 D2: 20-29 D3: 30-39 D4: 40-49 D5: 50-59 D6: 60-69 D7: 70-79 If you AAA, an extra 1000 will be added to your score If you SDG, an extra 500 will be added to your score If you FC, and extra 250 will be added to your score You can submit multiple songs if you find one that works better for you. Please keep in mind that this is a cumulative raw scoring tournament, so choose wisely~ Round 1 will end on Friday December 16th, 2016 at 11:59:59pm server time.

I'm stuck playing oppIrish or Undici. The irony of round 1.

Re: Kawaii025's Tournament of Randomness
On that note, I think I know what the problem with this round is, or rather, a way to make the problem less of one. It isn't really an issue with the round itself, but more of an issue in the scoring system and the bonus points for AAA'ing, SDG'ing, and FC'ing. They're too small, especially for the higher divisions.
Considering 1000 points is only equivalent to 20 extra notes, the addition of it can be voided, even in D1, by playing a song of the same difficulty with only 20 more notes in the song. Since in higher divisions, maps can get up to 3000 notes within 3 and a half minutes, this automatically makes maps with less than 2980 notes not viable, even if they're easier to FC or even AAA. This problem (at least in the case of division 6) can be lessened by changing the bonus points to be multiplied through instead of added to the total. Say the multipliers were as follows: AAA: 1.5x SDG: 1.25x FC: 1.1x Else: 1.0x This would make more maps viable to players. Take Return to Fire, a map with 2449 notes for a total of 122,450 points if it were AAA'd. As a D6 player, I'm not sure if I could AAA this, but I can SDG it. Take about 150 points out (6 goods worth of points) and multiply the total by the 1.25 multiplier stated above, and you reach a total of 152,875, which is definitely a higher total than D6 players would be able to get on oppIrish, which could be estimated around 149,000 points. If someone were able to say FC oppIrish, however, this total could be greatly increased to about 160,000, meaning that oppIrish is still viable, just harder to get a higher amount of points, which it should be, since the song is more difficult. Now, I'm not saying that doing exactly this would be balanced; the multiplier value would probably need to change to make it more realistic and include more viable songs and the later rounds would have to take into account that there may be very large swings in raw score between players in the same division, but it definitely seems to allow more variety in what the players can play during this round. I also have not taken into consideration what would happen in other divisions, so there may be faults in that regard. Also, this is just my thoughts on the round and a way to possibly make it more fun for the players. |

Re: Kawaii025's Tournament of Randomness
TheToaphster's suggestion makes some sense to me, and would make song selection much more "play what you want" than it is right now
There is still a bit of concern for the upper tiers, though - the gap between a 1.25x and a 1.5x multiplier is still significant especially when you're talking songs with more than 2000 or 2500 notes. If the song you AAA has 100 notes less than another player's, the multiplier also multiplies the gap between the raw scores? Given Toaphster's multipliers, AAA'ing a song with 2500 notes yields an 187,500 raw score, while a 2600-note song yields 195,000. The difference is essentially 300 raw goods. So essentially with multipliers the round shifts from "song with most notes that you can pass respectably" to "song with most notes that you can AAA" Playing songs with different notecounts in general makes cumulative raw scoring a headache to manage. It might be easier if rounds were assigned point values instead. i guess.... Last edited by MikeShinoda12345; 12-10-2016 at 12:25 PM.. |

Re: Kawaii025's Tournament of Randomness
I have read over your concerns... however none of the rounds will be the exact same. It's not a gradual increase in difficulty as what most other tournaments do, more so of random things for each round that's focused around the preview themes.
Don't feel as if you're stuck doing any specific song. It's entirely your choice on what you want to play, especially if you want to account for the boosts for FC, SDG, and AAA.

I'll submit this for now.
Gonna see if I can't get the FC on it before the end of the week. Edit* Also, what division am I in? This is my first tournament so I don't really know where I'm at lol Last edited by GotSkittles; 12-10-2016 at 12:41 PM.. |

Re: Kawaii025's Tournament of Randomness
I've sat here and thought about this a little more...weighed out a few things in my noggin.
Going to make a slight alteration to the difficulty to bring this more on an even (and hopefully more fun) playing field. With this change, I hope to see more submissions without taking a trip on the strugglebus. Difficulty Changes: D1 - 10-19 D2 - 20-29 D3 - 30-39 D4 - 40-49 D5 - 50-59 D6 - 60-69 D7 - 70-79 The OP will be updated to reflect this as well.
