Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
Just listened to Hajnal, and yes, those parts should be rolls, and they really can't be holds IMO, because they aren't a buzzing sound, though they sound like one, the mesh of different high pitched "tin" notes make it sound like buzzing, but a buzz is specifically a one note sound held while vibrating, thus changing the pitch, but not the actually note (you'll get what I mean if you hold down the pedal while playing piano, it doesn't sound like the same sound going consistently, it sounds like that note is vibrating), and that's what makes a hold, but that wouldn't fit if you know what I mean, it's not the same note repeating at all though (so no kiwi, it's not a jack) but rolls fit it best.
The Verdict: Rolls fit it best but the sound 'could' be replaced with a hold and should be fine, instead of vice versa roll > hold instead of hold > than roll, however they are interchangeable (I could be wrong, I'd listen to gnr or some other prolific stepartist) EDIT: Wow, this post is really incoherent, I apologize for my retardedness at explaining things

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
I wonder if we're even talking about the same sounds in here. I'm not talking about any of the sounds that have different pieces to them, I'm talking about the electric sounds. There's no "tin" sound to them at all. Many of the rolls in Hajnal make sense. The electric ones don't. It's not something I was even trying to discuss because it's really not discussable. You don't step rolls to holds.

There's a reason I don't like you. I'm gonna go with stavie on this one. Yea they could be holds, but rolls just represent the sound better, even if it is one constant sound. I dunno, it just feels good.
Also jacks would be complete bs that's just a no.

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
Stavie, I'm saying that with the buzzing sounds a jack would be best.
Rolls are definitely what fits everything in Hajnal, like I said before. Oh and what's this, I make a legitimate point and you all avoid it. EDIT: And Moomoo, there's a reason nobody likes you.

And you're right, I was thinking of a different part @ninja, not a bad post, but jacks don't fit for a vibrating sound, their for the same note lifted and then repeated at a quick pace (stacatto?), not the same note held and being struck (these are more instrumental terms than step terms) 'vibrating jacks' are used not at vibrating noises, but the same note repeated at such inhuman speeds it sounds coherent with the previous one, which is sometimes hard to differentiate with, but it can be done

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
Alright, hold and jack specific difference:
If I have a guitar, and my left hand is holding the G Major chord on the fret, and I strum the held string (and only that string) back and forth, really fast, that would be a jack But if I hit the string once and hold the fret, and let the string vibrate, creating a differentiated form of that note for a time until it stops, that would be a hold Get it?

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
itt we learn why stepping breakcore sucks
They're not technically continuous notes, but they're so fast that it's retarded to simulate them by buzzing any amount of keys. It's the accepted way of doing it since it's always been that way but it's really not right... I wish rolls were developed earlier so that the trend of stepping 512th notes intended to be one sound get stepped as super dump-rolls.

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
Just checked out RATO, I think those rolls should be holds, but since FFR can't do holds, rolls it is

When it's not there, then it's pretty darn wrong to step it. And yes, regarding RATO, that's the whole reason I brought Hajnal up in the first place. It was just supposed to be a comparison of the two. EDIT: Quote:

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
I just wish chill music like RATO wouldn't be stepped as dump files. Just because something has 9 million notes in the background doesn't mean you should make it a mash fest. At least pick a song that's intense and in your face with a bunch of notes if you want to make a really really hard file.

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
The Queue/Batch discussion thread turned into RATO Discussion thread. Yes, it's a controversial file; yes, it's ridiculously hard--everyone asked for something hard, RATO was given. I say deal with it and move on. Leave DGK alone. He's suffered enough criticism as it is.

And DGK, you did a better job than I could have ever done for any file, so hats off to you for making the hardest file, well, ever! (Unless we get permission for Emiru Maniaxx in which case my file will run RATO off the edge I think)
