http://stepmaniathings.com/downloads...ns/page_3.html for the noteskin
I generally spend 1 hour per minute of music for a normal file, then revisions. Obviously for less complex stepping styles and less complex songs I'll go less but that's a good ballpark.

rate 2.0x and ctrl+r
on a serious note, if we ever built a robot to step files he'd do it like that just to make everyone go :O

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
Whaaat? You guys spend that little time on your files? I spend a minimum of 4 hours on all of my files, even the easy ones (unless it's something as easy as Power or has really simply rhythms or something). I don't care if people think that means I'm a bad stepper, but I go over every single detail in my files to make sure it's perfect in everything: PR, rhythms, sync, etc.

Once you get better you streamline the process and it takes much less time.

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
depending on the length of the song and the complexity of the beats, the time should vary greatly, as in stepping Blue Rose should (in my mind) take 5x as long as a normal hard stepfile (ex. Lunar Saturation)
So for me, it varies depending on that, and the amount of time refining it is determined by how abnormal the beat patterns are, if there are parts that should have a 64th with random spacing (songs like Blue Rose, Improv et Chien, and TGWP), it will take me a lot of refining to find out exactly where it should be placed, if it's a 64th or 48th (when by themselves and not in rolls/stream it's hard for me to tell), it takes more time

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
dancing monkeys doesn't go any deeper than 8ths I thought
what I was thinking of was something that set bpm gap etc. then put notes or doubles to areas in the song of local intensity. for anything better then that like keysounding, pitch relevancy and layering tho you'd have to figure out how to pick out different instruments from a song and follow them separately

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
dang patashu steps quick
ya about an hour per minute of song sounds just about right for me, obviously depending on the complexity of the song and how hard i want the file to be (for hard files i'll step rhythms and layers on .5x then go back on 1.0x and adjust everything a bunch for playability/fluency)

Re: Queue/Batch Discussion Thread
obviously different files take different amounts of time to make. simpler, constant-bpm files may take an hour or so, but more difficult songs may take a few hours for syncing alone. then if you're layering rhythm stuff or some countermelody or some vague sh*t in the music it might take you another few hours to just step the file
not for ffr. I'm done with ffr
