What new lukless items have come out to make this possible?

Back in the day, I did a considerable amount of damage for a luk mage, more so than a lukless mage.

I hit 2350 maximum on a level 73 cleric and if I remember correctly, that was a lot.

You'll be a full level weaker than a normal lukless.

Lukless tend to be somewhere around 5 levels stronger (varies from level to level) than normal luk.

So basically, you'll only be at most 4 levels stronger.

And you're a cleric.

So you're already weaker than every other lukless mage.

Back in the day, I did a considerable amount of damage for a luk mage, more so than a lukless mage.

Lukless mages use lama staff (same strength as a level 43 staff, only no luk requirement and it adds HP). However, I'm pretty sure black umbrella (as strong as a level 70 staff or wand but no luk requirement) is out (was in an ad for gach on mapleglobal a while back... never saw one in game though) and if it's not, I'm sure it will be before long (if only gach only). And if that isn't enough, there is another umbrella (it's in a set of higher level maple gear... the lama is also maple. Not 100% about the level of it, but it's definitely the same level or higher of the black umbrella). I wouldn't be at all surprised if this maple umrella came out on the next anniversary. In short, lukless mages do relatively fine with weapons, and there are plans which will overpower them even further.

Back in the day, mages couldn't scroll overall for int. Now they can, lukless included. A good lukless mage can easily have a sauna robe scrolled for much more int than a luk mage's robe would be clean.

On top of all of this, there are yellow workgloves. Only add 3 int average, but that's not all. Before long, I'm sure gMS will be getting scroll for helm for int and scroll for glove for int. This would mean a lukless mage could have a 7 int glove and a 7 int hat (or, upwards of 20 int hat if they get a zhelm).

So yeah, if a luk mage outdamages a lukless of the same class, it's not a true comparison. Either the lukless has ****ty gear or the luk mage has godly gear (or some other combination of the luk mage having comparatively better gear than the lukless). With equivalent level gear, the lukless is always stronger.

Of course, with current gear, the lukless and luk eventually get a lot closer in damage, but I imagine the level at equal strength isn't until past 120 anyway.

No, it's because of that Choosing job quest that Olaf gives, gives you 300 exp.

I did the contract of darkness quest and it gave me a 60% jump scroll. I sold it in the FM for 2mil and bought a 60% wand scroll for 2mil afterwards. =( It didn't work. I guess my luck is over with scrolling.

I got my eyes kept on a specific lama auction... it's 60 M.ATK, and currently there's a bid of 410k. I'm pretty sure this will go WAY beyond what I can really afford (I'm willing to pay all my money, 1.7 mil, for it), but I will keep an eye on it, and see what happens. Heck, I could probably do a last second snatch... i dunno. But once again, I will keep an eye on the auction.

Really, the reason I found Squeek's cleric and doing the same thing over and over so fun is because, as a luckless mage, you literally do NOTHING except fight the same monsters, buy potions, and then move on to new monsters.

And then buy potions.

That's all I've been doing for 42~ levels on my lvl 52 luckless mage. Also, fire wizards aren't particularly fun. They're probably the slowest levellers in the game in terms of 2nd job levelling.

That means I could probably gain 33.3-% an hour on a luckless cleric, now, doesn't it. It really is the slowest class, the way I level is just awkward. Afrobean seems to have similar strategies, though.

I'm 99% sure the new maple weapons are L70. So if any of you DO see a black umbrella for massive amounts of money for sale, don't bother buying it, just wait for the new maple weapons, which will probably be from an easy quest or drop from easy monsters. XD

Oh, and on the subject of luck vs luckless, I think a good zhelm (lots of int and luck) could help put luck mages back on top by a wee bit. Reason being that a luckless mage would only gain the benefit of the int on the helm, while a luck mage would gain the benefit of the luck, too (cuz it would count towards requirements for higher level equipment, so they'd have higher matk/int stuff without losing points to luck). Given how much extra benefit that is, zhelm is about the only way to tip the favor towards luck mages.

And uh, anybody who is gonna play JMS: It'd be cool if you had FFR in your name (since lots of you have wound up in Ludi and will make a new char/restart anyway). For example, I'm ebFFR and ckj is CamFFR. Speaking of which, once you get a character that you plan to keep (as in, you job advance with it and aren't stuck in Ludi), add ebFFR to your list. I will get on and play with you guys sometimes. =P

The magician damage formula is exponential, so later on, yes, a single level does a lot. Especially after you get amp. Examples:

Low level:
From 100 matk to 105 matk (no amp): 26~39 increase
From 100 matk to 105 matk (max amp): 35~53 increase
Around my level:
From 600 matk to 605 matk (no amp): 58~71 increase
From 600 matk to 605 matk (max amp): 79~96 increase
A little bit into 4th job:
From 650 matk to 655 matk (max amp): 83~101

(Note: When I say x~y increase, I mean your min raises x amount, your max raises y amount)

That's all with fire arrow/explosion. For that last one, if it had been for Quantum Explosion, it'd be a 179~196 increase instead. Individual levels begin to make a very large difference later on. =P

So much awesome crap, and none of it is overly expensive like the godly stuff in GMS. o____O

Yeah, the bid has gone way beyond 2 mil now, so my plans are pretty much down the drain. But I AT LEAST have an Yellow Umbrella, which I feel is decent enough for me.
