Well... there WAS a beta version before RuneScape was officially realeased. In Beta, you could kill Shopkeepers, and kill anyone at any time. That was also when the Black Room existed.

I knew about RS before I moved to the states, which was in November 2001, so it was out before that. I think I knew about it in september or august 2001... I started an account but then never played for another year because i thought it was really dumb.

For a while, there was even weird stuff on the site like an infinitely long hole that just gave you text messages every couple seconds, and eventually cheat codes to Quake or something.

You couldn't kill anyone at any time unless they had a PK button on. They could turn it on or off, determining if they could kill inside town or not. I remember this part very clearly.

Wasn't really a fix. 3 attempted hits and 3 defended hits and then you could run and eat to your hearts desire.
