Let me put it in small, simple words that even you should be able to understand without much effort.

I'm burning the townread everyone has on me in order to get people to vote you.

It's the context given here.

Pushing someone who's kind of pushing back to stop the vote from happening.

If it was someone that was just going "yeah, okay, cool, do it." then it'll be a different story.
