arch, perhaps you don't understand. You can think you win your arguements all you want, but it's not true. You get nowhere in your arguements and the reason you think you win is just because you are more stubborn than the other person, so they stop caring before you do. Just because the other person doesn't reply doesn't mean that you "win".

This is also assuming that any anti-virus doesn't get a hold of an incomming trojan (that would be used to give remote access) and prevent the hacker from controlling the system. |

VxDx, your comp can be hacked. End of story. Yes, it may not be simple, yes, they probably wouldn't care about hacking specifically yours, but it CAN happen. Enough already.

I go to a vocational school for computer networking.. i'll talk to a senior and give him the IP, see what he can do. and ip isnt location. ip addresses can be changed, therefor it CANT be location. using an ip address someone can figure out yer location by going to your service provider. but without consulting the service provider, having the ip address will do no good when trying to find location. IP addresses are like phone numbers. you can use it to find the address, but you need a phone book (service provider). but if you are yer own service provider, you wont be IN a phone book. so location really cant be found unless you use something like trace route, which rocks, btw. i have a visual trace route program, meaning i can type in an ip, then find out where in the world the ip is coming from, provided, of course, that yer service provider is willing to give out this info, which, if you are connected through any major isp, they will be willing. the only thing that has to do with physical location/address is mac address. mac addresses cannot be changed, but serve no purpose when trying to find out where in the world a computer is. and honestly, if you think you are safe behind a software firewall, you are blind and ignorant. even external hardware firewalls wont protect you enough. and routers may mask your ip address, but a router still has its own ip, and if you truely are a hacker, then you wouldnt bother trying to find that computer systems individual ip address, but rather use the routers broadcast address, and send/connect whatever you want to all the computers connected to the router. something a little safer would be a switch, but i doubt any of you would need or have a switch. and even that would be easy enough to get through. if you think you are safe, i suppose it's like they say in the movie the matrix, "ignorance is bliss", eh?

this site includes a whois tool...for the windows users. On linux all you do is the /whois command in the terminal...i believe. You ip only changes if it is dynamic. A static ip address is always associated with the same computer. Usually, dial-up users have a dynamically assigned ip address, while broadband users generally have a static ip address. Anyone can be hacked, of course. It just depends on who the hacker/cracker...and how clever he or she is. Nothing is "unhackable." |

Just another note, that Static IP's can be changed. That way nobody gets confused.

See, your stubbornness in this case make you look like an idiot. I'm right, you're wrong. Believe whatever you want, but I'm right, I pwn you, you are fat and nerdy, and you can't even argue well.
