Hell, I don't know. Maybe people call Vindictus an MMO just for ****s and giggles? Also, I think part of it is because Vindictus is operated by a free-to-play MMO company, and its community, being used to calling games MMOs thanks to Nexon, proceeds to refer to Vindictus as an MMO.

In my opinion, if it is a game that is massive (instance-based or not), supports multiple players, and is an online game, it can be considered as an MMO. But, that's just me.

@OneHandNow: Well, the combat is fluid; fighting is repetitive, but fun; fun and/or intense boss battles; the list goes on, pretty much. And, like I said, I wouldn't call Vindictus awesome just on those characteristics, but I do consider Vindictus a good game, and something worth checking out to see if it pertains to your interests. Not to mention that there's plenty of new content coming eventually, just as long as Nexon doesn't hold back content like with Audition when they still had it under their belt.

People will describe things how they want to describe them in many cases, whether it is the right description or not. For example, I could call cookies, well, cookies, but someone else may call them biscuits. But, I digress; I apologize if I believe in a meaning that is apparently wrong.

I chastise labelling the game as an MMO, because it lacks major factors in the "massively multiplayer" part. There's no persistent world. There isn't true player interaction outside of instances beyond marketplace trading. Colhen and Rocheste serve as, in essence, the world's game lobby. I use Diablo 2 as my prime example because it still, to this day, has more players than Vindictus. Does the sheer volume of people online make it an MMORPG? Hardly. GunBound also likely has more players than Vindictus. Does that make it an MMOTBS? Uh, no. You're interacting with a small set of people for a set period of time. What in this exactly denotes "MMO"?

The reason I disapprove of this misnomer so greatly is that people getting into the game have a right to know exactly what the game is without muddled misconceptions. MMO in this era is synonymous with persistent world and deep player interaction - not instanced mission grinding.

With all that said and done it's just a personal gripe. Vindictus is fun, play it if you have a bit of time to kill but don't expect the best game ever

The best new MMO in 2010, IMO.

I think this game is very good because of the progression system and how you're able to optimize your player-skills a lot more than... perhaps every online action RPG outside of Guild Wars PvP.

Fiona - lvl 27
Evie - lvl 15
Lann - lvl 9

My only complaint so far is how shallow Evie and Lann seem compared to Fiona.

Competition? You mean who kills the spawn first?

Anyway, it's a cooperative game, not a single player game with a bunch of other players running around you. There's supposedly a PvP addition in the future.

If you mean by that you can max pretty much everything, sure.

I almost have all my skills maxed to r8

I used "player" to try to refer to everything except the in-game skills >.<

Although the game seems way too easy with a full team. Solo or 2-man seems much more fun and challenging than being able to beat on the boss all day while he chases your allies.

The game is still going pretty strong, there is a facebook event going on right now and if they can get up to 85k followers by April 18th (They're at 83.1k now) They'll remove the token system for a month and give out a bunch of prizes, so needless to say, if there was a time to start playing this game, it would probably be now.

(Yeah i kind of rezed this thread. Figured no point in making a new thread if one was already up)

They've done alot in the last few months. Lots of nice raid content now.

Btw, I play on West.

I'm still waiting for Karok to come along, but I'll probably start playing again if Nexon implements XE servers for Vindictus. Other than that, just patiently waiting for that big guy to come along, and at this point it probably won't be long now if Nexon is following Mabinogi Heroes' update string.

(I know I could just be playing Vindictus, but XE servers/Karok would be great for me since I have a tendency to solo everything. That and I like Karok; he has so many interesting qualities. XE servers would just sweeten the deal and/or get me to play again.)

EDIT: I guess the least I can do for now is update the OP.

EDIT: There, that should be better. Nag me if there's any info I need to alter.

Just going to go ahead and point this out; thanks to this event here Nexon will be removing the token system from Vindictus for an entire month. This will probably start at the end of April or at the start of May, but once it starts a full month of no tokens will be implemented into the system. If 100,000 fans is reached by May 25th, another month of no tokens will be implemented, meaning a full two months of no tokens. Isn't Facebook wonderful?

If Karok gets implemented during the whole no tokens thing I'll definitely take advantage of it, though I'm honestly not going to be playing Vindictus 24/7 regardless. Just going ahead and pointing it out for those who are interested.

EDIT: One month of free boat rides begins April 26th.

This would be the time to start playing this game, as it will be very easy to max AP, and get gear crafted.

I played this game a ton when it came out. I grinded AP at whatever the cap was at White Tyrant. When the cap was lv44, it had been weeks before new content was to come out. By then I realized what the whole game was going to be like so I quit.

Gonna sit here and bump this thread since I'm going to be playing again since Karok's coming out come June 15th. For those who don't know about Karok, he's a guy who solves problems with his fists. Oh, and a giant pillar. That too. He's also a black guy by default, so you know he's going to be awesome.

To somewhat catch up with news, Vindictus has come a long way. Plenty of new content galore, and the token system is being removed from the game. Permanently. Oh, and Karok. Can't forget Karok. Whether or not he will come with his currently in-development second weapon is under wraps, but right now it's kinda obvious that it won't since even the KR version of Vindictus doesn't have a secondary for Karok. The current plans for Karok's secondary is either going to be a hammer/flail (which I like) or IRON FISTS (which I also like).
