I'm all in favor of beating my kid when he does something he shouldn't. I mean, god, what kind of a weak society is this. Stop this worship towards children goddamit. Kids have to understand that they can't do what-ever they like. Corporal punishement is a good way to make it clear into a kid's brain.

people with no understanding of psychologic mechanics shouldn't pretend they're doing good beating their children. it is only the lazy way out, and you all know that.

Okay, so I didn't see any of the latter of the posts until today, as I've been out of town, in Atlanta actually.
However, I don't have much to say, it's an uphill battle. I think that kids need to every now and again, be punished even if that resorts to the occasional "whipping". There is a distinct difference between correcting, and BEATING your child. I hate to break it to you Mellocephalus, but you're probably no Dr.Phil, so your input on what the world should know about "Psychologic Mechanics" is bull****. I don't need to know the mentality of a child, as I'm not studying ****ing Ed Gein. All I need to know, is that they did something wrong, and I need to find a manner in which I feel suited to deal with it. You're an over sensitive, egotistical, picket sign wielding asshole, who can't handle reality. In case you haven't noticed, this is 2009, and time outs just aren't what they used to be. Common sense should tell you that there are going to be times in your life, with your kids, where sitting down to a calm discussion over dinner isn't going to make them give a **** that what they did was unacceptable. I'm not for extreme, hardcore, humiliating, or crippling punishment. But I'm also not against handling a situation in a stern manner when neccessary. There's a difference. Just because some people don't understand that line, doesn't mean that the rest of the world is a bunch of lunatics for finding the occasional "Whipping" neccessary.

I skimmed and saw some people saying that beating your child is a good method -- it's actually an extremely piss-poor method. Learn the basics of positive/negative reinforcement/punishment ffs so your kids don't grow up to be ****ed in the head.

For example, getting rid of MrRubix's computer is a much more effective punishment than beating him to death.

I agree with the link Rubix provided in one distinct area. Most people DONT know the difference between discipline and child abuse.

You are seriously ****ing retarded. I've tried hard to be civil through this thread, but you my friend don't comprehend anything other than what you want. You have "selective reading" going on here, so to speak. Listen, I'm done explaining this to you, because it's beyond clear that you're just not going to get it. You're convinced that I'm saying that because I don't know the full psychiatric evaluation of a child, means that I don't want to understand why they've done what they've done. Which is absolutely WRONG. I'm prone to ask "why?" to every single thing that occurs, as I like to be informed and know how to prevent things. Get a grip on reality retard. Not everyone is going to handle their kids the same, and why there are plenty of wrong methods in the world on how to do so, there are plenty of right ones that (as I've mentioned before), your over-sensitive ass isn't going to agree with. Get your head out of your ass and look around. I think you're the one that's going to have the parenting problems, seeing as you have one very precautious and uncontrolling method. I'm now officially tapping out of this thread. I won't be back to read, nor write anymore posts. I stand where I stand. I'm not going to alter the fact that I think you're an utter idiot, and you're not going to let go of your psycho deranged tree hugger babble about how spanking a kid is wrong under any circumstance. Because you've convinced yourself that someone that whips their kid, is unintelligible and eluding responsibility on handling their kids in ANY other fashion. One last thing before I retire from this thread. Invest in spell-check.

lol@someone taking maddox seriously
I'll put it this way. Any good that could possibly come from spanking/hitting your child isn't nearly as profound as the good that could come about from other methods. As children are inherently progressing through some very formative stages in their mental development, it's important to not **** it up. Physically hitting your child/etc generally causes more harm than good, and simply does not work. You can cause some pretty traumatic memories/long term trust/sexual issues/communication problems/blahblahblah. That type of punishment is just a generally stupid method that stupid people perpetuate. It doesn't work. It doesn't "build character." It doesn't "keep kids in line." It's utter bull**** and is merely a short-term fix (that isn't even always a short-term fix) to something that needs to be instilled for the long haul.

Look to your left. Now look to your right. At least one of those people will have been beaten as a child. Now, look to your right again. What do you see? Is it a bear? Because that's what happens.
