For example one thing I noticed is that when you turn bg to 0% in 3.95, fps actually go up ( in my pc from 300 to 550 ) and in sm5 doesn't change at all, it's weird. It's like you're putting a black screen but not really turning bg off. PS: I know sm5 is way better than 3.95 but i'm not changing to sm5 until i get good gameplay sry

![]() I stick to 3.9 since I like its editor the most and I don't have any problems with it. SM5 just kept crashing on me and there were lots of bugs and the charts I had made were not showing up in SM5. Only reason I would use SM5 would be to play online but the sacrifice isn't worth it. Not for me that is.

![]() Alright, well I'm glad I asked this. It's easier to understand why you people still use it; first and foremost being FPS or Accuracy problems. I know that I would use a different version if I played a lot better on it.
But anyways, this helps clear up some things for me. Still wish some people would give it a try; it's like having a beat up old computer that runs what you want and you know inside and out, then being offered a new computer with a lot more features. After figuring out all of its quirks, you may come to enjoy it more than that old one. |

Did you try calibrating the sync or maybe playing SM5 a little more to get used to whatever is making you play worse?

![]() I do agree however that sm-ssc was far superior
the editor was much better and the game itself owned it just didn't support negative bpm sm5a2 also lets you choose ANY STYLE OF PLAY WHENEVER. feel like playing solo? that's ok, you don't need to exit out and select solo because all you need to do is switch charts ![]() ex: ![]() if sm5 doesn't run properly on your computer, it's outdated as fuc. the timing is the exact same as 3.9 (except holds, 0.50s instead of 0.25s which is silly imo) and saying you play worse in sm5 is only barely related to habit. the scroll space is much larger (which is the reason I can't play FFR for shit) and the build is way more stable. My timing was significantly better upon switching to sm5 after a few days.

If you've had the program installed for a while, make sure to check Preferences.ini; I had to go into my Prefs just now and change it myself: TimingWindowSecondsHold=0.250000 |

That's also in 3.9+, but no one really uses that version.
In my opinion, what I have is pretty good, except for the stupid assist tick bug. Otherwise, if I have to sacrifice stability for true widescreen support, I'm going to be skeptical before giving it a shot. |

a = alternate options [cut/copy/etc] Can't think of anything else that would be inconvenient, or different at all for that matter, for someone switching from 3.95. Take it from someone who has Can't set cmod in editor mode oh noes might have to type ctrl + up

![]() The biggest problem I have at the moment is it gets choppy on some simfiles, especially if they are made in DDREAM and have many bpm changes or just hard as **** files with a million arrows on the screen at the same time it has frameskipping which ruins the already limited consentration I have but other than that it's awesome

![]() SM5 is almost better than 3.9 in every way, I'll give it that. I mean, it'd be amazing if people start using that more. I REALLY like it so far.
There's only 2 problems I don't like about it though. 1) Editor is a little more inconvenient to use BUT it's actually better because we have MORE possibilities to do MORE things that 3.9 can't do. So in turn, I'm better with it. But the Step and Song timing may get annoying to switch back and forth, but luckily Alpha 2 fixed it so it remembers the last timing you edited. 2) Warps. This is just one issue I have MOSTLY because of pad files. Reason is, warps don't convert BACKWARDS into OpenITG, which uses negative BPMs instead. And since SM5 doesn't have this option (yet), I still have to use OpenITG to fix this unfortunately :< but ah well.

![]() Everything about sm5 is better except that the judging feels different. Which is the single most important factor in the game. I don't play anyway, but that's why I couldn't even start to use sm5.
Edit: Was about to go try it again, but I can't figure out how to link external song folders. Edit2: Still can't figure that out, also can't figure out how to add speedmods because clearly adding them to speedmod.txt doesn't work for some reason. The theme is awful and the noteskin is painful to look at. Other then minor personal judgement issues that prevent me from playing like I used to the game is really smooth and runs great and is probably programmed really well.
